Nitrile Cork Sole For The Win!

Just picked up this ever so barely worn pair of Iron Ranger 8111 (2016) and wow! I’ve got a re-crafted pair with nice lug soles because I could never stand the lack of comfort with the mini lug soles these otherwise come with. Decided to give these a shot and confused as to why these were left behind for the mini lugs?? Yeah, yeah, traction. Obviously, the mini lugs will outperform the nitrile cork on slick surfaces for the most part (frozen??). So just wear a better traction boot on those days. On ALL other days, give me the nitrile! Softer feel under foot, and a little thicker profile which adds to the aesthetics as well. I might be in the minority, but these win the day in my opinion!

Rubber to leather glue bond?

New to me boots (Grant Stone Moc toes, FWIW) have the rubber heel coming loose from the leather stack. What’s the best glue to hold these together?
Thanks in advance!

Spitfire Reboot (pun intended)

Recently acquired these Red Wing Blacksmith 2955 Spitfire Leather and they were ready for reconditioning. The waxed leather was worn off in several areas. Took the advice of a helpful redditor here and used Venetian Shoe Balm to re-wax it and they’re lookin’ damn good! Ideally I’d like to re-build these with a more comfortable and attractive sole. Welcoming any suggestions you all might have!

Sunday Blues

Wore my new-to-me Red Wing 8882 Moc toes in Indigo Blue today. Slow to come around to boots much beyond shades of brown and black, but these are fun for a change.

Thick Leather Laces

Noticed on my new Whites Boots that the laces are noticeably thicker than those on any of my Red Wings, Truman, Nick’s etc. I really like the way these look, stay tied, and seem less prone to stretching.
Anyone know where quality, thick laces like this are to be found? Thanks!

Gonna Be A Damn Fine Day!

White’s MP Sherman’s in Waxed Cinnamon Flesh. Sandals and boat shoes be damned! New to me and the heck if I can keep these cooped up in a box on a day like this!

Best conditioner for DRY boots.

Picked up some 21 year old brand new Red Wing Irish Setter 855 hunting moc toes. Don’t think they ever left the closet. Naturally, the leather is dry.
I’ve got lots of options including Bick 4, Obenaufs, Blackrock, Venetian Leather Cream and Balm, Saphir Universelle, Red Wing Leather Cream, Renapur, and Otter Wax.
Mainly looking for the best option to deep condition to soften the leather. A little shine wouldn’t hurt too I guess. Thoughts on this list or any others you all might suggest?
Thanks!

I Mean … C’mon!?!

Not a toy or figurine collector, but how do you not want this?!? Ran into this online while trying to locate a decent Quint hat replica just for kicking around in. Harder to find than you would think! At least a true replica. Found a couple on Etsy that should work.
Zoom in on the faces. Fantastic!!
Oh, and does the lower half of his body come with the accompanying shark figure, in its mouth?!?🤣

Spitfire Leather Refurbish, Red Wing Blacksmiths 2955

Picked up a used pair of Red Wings in the awesome spitfire leather that needs to be brought back to life. Watched a video of someone using the Venetian shoe cream and then setting it in with a hairdryer that looked pretty perfect actually. I just can’t help but wonder if the Venetian shoe BALM, with its heavier wax content, might not be a better product for this use? Anyone have experience with these two products and or anything better for this leather?
**First two pics of the boots I bought, last pic is how the leather should look, and how it comes, new.**

Need help working it in?

I have a new #9 Carbone Beechwood that is so tight I can hardly get it open. I’m going to break my thumbnail trying to get it started out of the handle.
Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

MP Sherman Cinnamon Waxed Flesh…YOWZA!!

Been eyeing up White’s Boots, particularly in the Cinnamon Waxed Flesh, for some time. Chomping at the bit on a couple pair on eBay and the other sites for a while but even used they were painfully priced. ($549 for lightly, but obviously, used Cruisers??).
So I woke up in the middle of the night and looked at my phone and saw this brand new pair of MP Sherman’s, in the leather I had been coveting, box and all, for $275. I didn’t even consider making an offer and hit the Buy Now button as quickly as I could, just hoping they were legit.
Arrived today and all I can say is YOWZA! Instant love! Wearing them today to start the break-in, and they feel wonderful! Happy boy!!

Brim repair?

Anyone know how to fix a hat brim thats bent like this? It won’t easily reform like a metal ring might. Feels like it’s plastic inside. Bends, but bends right back. Doesn’t feel broken. Nice, Italian made hat by Hologramme. Would love to salvage it!

Enhancing Patina

A year or so ago somebody posted how they made the patina on Black Prairie leather pop by conditioning and applying Saphir Amiral Gloss to the toe and back areas. I decided to treat that leather on my worn in Red Wing 8849 Moc Toes once mine were worn in and here are the results. I think the gloss helps highlight the difference in coloration pretty nicely. Got two compliments this first day that I’ve worn them after spiffing them up so that’s something! If you were to follow the instructions to a tee it would involve MULTIPLE applications, buffs with water, applications, buffs, etc. I don’t have that level of patience, plus I thought they looked great after two efforts. I really didn’t want them shining like fine dress shoes anyway. Kinda cool!

Edge dressing or nah?

Yeah, yeah, I know. We can’t make up your mind for you. To each their own, etc.
Just wondering if you all (I’m from northern Illinois, y’all is too much 😁) prefer your worn, patina’d boots edge dressed or nah on the midsoles and heels? Just picked up two pairs of Nick‘s Falcons on the used market and can’t decide if I like the newly conditioned pair (slightly better shape) or the used, and a little abused, pair better.
Likely to sell one and keep the other. Trying to decide if it’s preferable to edge dress the more worn pair.
Have a great day, YOU ALL!

Boot Obsessed???

Was walking past a pile of books and stopped, staring at this one for a while. Didn’t care about the book, was just trying to figure out whose boots she was wearing.
Hello, I am Steve, and I’m a boot addict.
