The most recent LS podcast has some MAJOR factual errors on Sudan

First of all I want to say that I do love this pod and I do think that the boys are doing their best, but at the same time there were some MAJOR oversights in the most recent episode which need to be corrected

To recount the very basic narrative Aiden told: he said that Sudan is ethnically diverse w/ conflict and that the Darfur region is mostly non Arab (true) and that the SAF committed a lot of warcrimes there (also true)

HOWEVER he made the assumption that RSF vs SAF is an ethnic conflict and that the RSF was somehow pissed off and that their massacres of entire cities was just them "getting revenge" for crimes the SAF war crimes committed in Darfur

This is not only wrong but insulting because the RSF were actually the main ones committing the Darfur Genocide

For some background, to oversimplify there are two major groups in Darfur: the nomadic Arabs and the agricultural Africans. The problems started in the 70s and 80s when there was giant droughts in the traditional Arab lands in Northern Darfur, so they moved South where the agricultural Africans already were. Due to resource competition and racist ideologies of Arab supremacy, they formed a militia called the Janjaweed and started ethnically cleansing the African population there. The Janjaweed is what would later turn into the RSF

The SAF to be clear were no angels in this. They very much did help aid and abet the ethnic cleansing in Darfur, but the Janjaweed/RSF were very much the main drivers.

As a very rough parallel, think about the West Bank. The RSF are the extremist settlers doing the actual violence, while the SAF is more the equivalent of the IDF soldiers who stand by and help the settlers

The reason the RSF were so brutal in El Fasher wasn't because "they were angry at the SAF for what they did back then". No, because El Fasher is in Darfur primarily inhabited by the same African groups that got genocided last time. The they were that brutal is because fundamentally, the RSF has the same ideology they did back then, and they still want to ethnically cleanse Darfur of non Arab groups

That is why so many non-Arabs actually see the SAF as the lesser of two evils - though many of them have their own separate groups focusing mostly on self defense

The ABCD gender war problem

Inspired by the recent post on this sub of some girl concocting a narrative of how Indian men were ordering mail order brides to be "brown maga" while Indian women are thriving or something. This was a disgusting type of post which was a lot more common on this sub a few years ago which I thought we moved past, but apparently not

There legitimately seems to be a concerning number of ABCDs, both men and women, who take active glee in putting down the other gender

Specifically I'm thinking of two subreddits: SouthAsianMasculinity and Vindictabrown, though there have been many other like these.

They will without fail claim that the other gender of ABCDs are all white worshipping losers, terrible people, etc. and then proceed to use that fact to "justify" dating out. Apparently to justify their own preference of dating non Indians, they need to put down the other gender.

To be clear there is nothing wrong with dating interracially!!! Hell there isnt even anything wrong with having a preference imo. But just like, don't be an asshole about it? No one cares if you want to date a white/black/Asian person. You don't need to shit on brown men/women to do so

At the end of the day, we should all be in community with one another. I do not understand why so many people in the community seem so dead set on tearing down others based on their fellow brown people based on their genitals

Both brown men and women face their own unique problems. We need to be empathetic with to one another. Not constantly thinking about the best way to put each other down.

Serious question: Regardless of what you think of them, is it better for Desi Republicans to exist?

So generally atp I think any self respecting Desi would have left the GOP considering how they're basically openly admitting anti Brown racists into their ranks. I suspect most of this sub agrees

But something I've thought about recently was this: regardless of what we think of individual Desi Republicans, is it a good thing for the community as a whole that they exist?

Basically the idea being that we still have some representation in the other major party, and that might help with acceptance in certain quarters. To be clear I don't think Vivek existing might convince HitlerWorshipper1488 on Twitter to stop spewing hate against us, but it might convince a more normie, less online "regular" Republican voter. You saw something like this happen with Mormons when Romney ran for example

On the flip side I think you can argue that Desi Republicans are never really accepted by the GOP staffer class. Heritage Foundation isn't going to support a Desi Republican nominee lol. But them existing does cause a backlash among progressive types, as a lot of white left wingers assume that Vivek or Nikki Haley existing means all Desis must be Republican, and that gives them a free pass to be racist against us

I think I can probably steelman both arguments but am still undecided overall. Personally I lean towards the former option, and I am generally glad someone like Vivek exists in the GOP, even if I view Vivek himself and most other Desi Republicans as total cucks.

Would you rather vote for an socially left wing, economically right wing candidate or an socially right wing, economically left wing one?

To be clear by disagree I mean opposite, so if you pick the agree on social disagree on economic and you're left wing, then the candidate will hav

I know crosstab diving is a cardinal sin, but these Buttigieg numbers in the newest Emerson poll are throwing me for a loop

I feel like assimilation should be buffed

Rn even with max public schools and national values decree it's still very slow. Lots of people want to do assimilation playthroughs so I feel like there needs to be more options

Imo they should buff national values and also add some laws which also help in assimilation besides just public schools

If Trump is a poor person's idea of a rich person, then Platner is a rich person's idea of a poor person

Heard this banger of a quote on the GDpolitics podcast and I don't think I've heard it described more perfectly

Platner is the result of highly educated Democrats picking the person they thought would be catnip for the white working class. A white, tough oysterman who has all the progressive positions. Never mind that he's actually just a rich larper

Some people to this day are still swearing up and down that Platner had some sort of a special appeal to the working class until the rape allegations and Dems need to replicate it everywhere. In reality though if you look at the data, his support was always from college educated higher income folks lol

Why tf did no one tell me Steve Hilton was British 😭😭😭

I'm actually shook lol, admittedly I've basically ignored the Republican side of the California governors race as basically irrelevant, so I've never bothered to read about or listen to Steve Hilton

It has however come to my attention that he is British and very much still has an accent

Also watching his campaign announcement bro talks about his British political life for 90% before being like yeah then we moved. Didn't even try to make it look like he's anything but a political opportunist
