is it me, or does friedman really go out of his way, like really make sure it’s clear, that yzerman was thought of as, perhaps, a sarcastic a-hole in the way he treated people? says exactly yzerman was “elite” at being “sarcastic” and “biting,” they had their battles, they had their fights, yzerman made him better at his job.

am i reading too much into this? like it felt to me like friedman was dancing on his grave, a little? politely, but still.

it’s almost like our local government has let this issue go for far too long. this isn’t even a bass problem, this is an everybody-in-office-for-decades problem.

can’t decide myself, so i created a list. this isn’t an invite to criticism; that’s been done. this is just, which storyline left you wanting more?

a few rules:

- i’m leaving out stuff like the public UFA signings that did (kane) or didn’t (pick from more than a few) work out;

- i’m leaving out trades that were kind of obvious, like pending UFAs, getting cat, as already picked over and relatively public;

- the larkin sitch is off limits as still pending, and has also been massively picked over;

so, the focus is more the behind the scenes, older stuff. i pulled a few off the top of my head; which ones interest you the most?

- vrana in, vrana out: WTF?

- the urgency in moving up for cossa — how did they arrive at this?

- mazur: what did/do they really think and expect of him?

- walman in, walman out: WTF?

- hronek: even though the return was decent, why did they feel they needed to move on?

- how did rasmussen get resigned (4x $3.2M until 27-28!), only to outlast yzerman?

- did anybody else besides larkin piss off the front office?

- zadina: i know it was a holland pick, but how fast did yzerman know it was a disaster? what were the conversations like behind the scenes about missing with such a high pick, and what to do?
