Looking for Help with Vacation Ideas!

My family is looking to plan a winter vacation to somewhere warm and I'm struggling to find something that makes me excited. Seems like places are significantly raising prices while also cutting service.

Criteria:

-Classy, but also friendly for a 4 year old

-Pool and warm enough to swim in Feburary

-Direct flight less than 4 hours from Chicago

-Lodging for under $1000 per night

Looking forward to your recommendations!

MPC - Marathon Oil is Sprinting

MPC going vertical. At $300, I thought MPC had run it's course. This week, it's up another 18%. 5 year return: 492%.

Crazy for an established oil company, but I guess war is good for business.

Thoughts? What's the breaking point? How can crack spreads be so high without gas prices going through the roof?

Who is buying at these prices?

Food and Beverage Opportunity?

I've noticed that the stocks of Food and Beverage companies are getting crushed over the last 3+ years. Many are down to the lowest prices in 20+ years.

Thoughts on whether this is simply a market rotation chasing tech vs a genuine collapse of CPG companies? Earnings are definitely down, but that too may be cyclical.

Examples:

\-Conagra

\-Diageo

\-Hain Celestial

\-B&G Foods

\-General Mills

\-Campbell's

\-Kraft Heinz

The only company I see at all time high is Coca Cola.

Traveling Over Holidays/Spring Break vs Other Dates

Do you find it's better to travel while kids have days off school, or pull them out of school to travel other days?

Seems like travel gets so much busier and more expensive over the winter/spring breaks and holidays.

Car under warrantybut can't be fixed

Location: Illinois

I bought a car brand new in 2018.

In 2021, the manufacturer sent me a letter saying there was a defect in the AC condenser that could cause it to fail, so they were extending the warranty on that part to 10 years.

Over the last 5 years, that part has failed at least 1-2 times every year, resulting in loss of AC. The dealer always covers the replacement cost, but this typically involves leaving my car with them for 3+ days, so I often go without AC for a period of time.

I've now given up on the idea that the issue will ever be correctly fixed and plan to get rid of the car. Given that the car is still under warranty, but cannot be fixed for any meaningful amount of time, am I owed any compensation from Honda?

T-mobile price increase before I even sign up!

Received these texts from our friends at T-Mobile. Seems like unfortunate timing. Do they have to honor the first price?

Anyone regret trading in a 10th gen

My 2018 hybrid touring is getting up there in miles and age. I'm planning to trade it in for something newer before I start getting hit with more maintenance. Unfortunately, the 11th Gen seems like a downgrade, so I'm looking elsewhere, but not seeing a ton that meets my preferences of styling and quality.

Anyone give up a 10th gen accord, only to regret it?

Trump's media company wants traders to pay to get president's market-moving social-media posts first

This seems highly illegal, but then again, I don't know why I am surprised.

At what point will investors lose faith in the market? Is there a tipping point at which people balk at this behavior or is this the new normal? I feel like we're living in the twilight zone.

VWITX Negative Investment Flows

I'm using this fund for the bond portion of my taxable account due to high tax bracket.

I noticed Morningstar is showing the fund has significant outflows over the last 5 years. Not surprising during 2022, but I am surprised it appears to have built momentum in 2025.

-Should I be concerned?

-How are total net assets increasing while net flows are negative?

Insane Data Usage

Pocketcasts has consumed 30 GB of data in 2 weeks, seemingly going in bursts of several GB in less than an hour.

My primary usage is streaming via android auto for my commute. Less than 10 hours per week.

What on earth is going on?

What to do when representative lies?

Multiple occassions recently where customer service representatives told me something was going to be done, and then it wasnt.

What's the next step? Hate to take it out on the next person I talk to, but there needs to be some accountability.

Illinois Capital Gains - Estimated Taxes vs Safe Harbor

I've had some significant capital gains recently from selling stocks. I want to make sure I'm covered from a tax basis, particularly for State taxes (Illinois). I do have separate W2 withholding handled by my employer.

The Illinois estimated payment instructions appear to require 4 equal payments. However, all of the extra income was received in the 2nd quarter, and it's obviously too late to submit payment for the 1st quarter.

Can I instead just increase my W2 withholding for the rest of the year to cover the extra amount of capital gains in Q2?

Will W2 withholding Safe Harbor protect me from estimated payments?

Money in IDPH Letter?

Just received a survey in the mail from IDPH. It had $2 inside as a "token of appreciation".

Wondering how many people see this letter and think it's spam, so throw it out with the money inside.

Alternate manganese and iron foliar spray for chlorosis?

I have a red maple that is showing signs of chlorosis and I believe it is due to nutrient deficiency from high soil pH. I'm working to address the soil pH, but since it's a long process, I'm hoping to supplement with foliar spray. The tree is too small for trunk injections.

I've read iron and manganese are the likely deficiencies, but they compete with each other. Can one avoid competition by alternating manganese and iron foliar sprays? Thoughts on timing?

Login Verification Security Flaw

Sometimes when I go to login via browser, after entering my pw, it asks to confirm my identity via 2FA. If I'm feeling lazy, I click the browser back button, then re-enter my pw. Usually, on the second try, it doesn't ask for 2FA.

If they really needed to confirm my identity, why wasn't it required the 2nd time when I backed out and re-entered my pw?

New Seat Sensor Airbag Recall

Has anyone taken their car in for the new recall issued for the cracked seat sensor that impacts airbag operation?

Honda and Acura Airbag Sensor Recall - Consumer Reports

https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-recalls-defects/honda-and-acura-recall-vehicles-to-fix-airbag-sensors-a8497939620/

My accord meets the year/model list, but VIN search says it doesn't apply.

Ironically, I just started having the SRS error message pop up randomly. It goes away each time I shut off the car, which makes ot harder to troubleshoot. Dealer wanted $100 to diagnose and said even that may not be able to get the codes.
