Dogs and fireworks in East Cambridge

To people living in East Cambridge near Lechmere, do you guys think that’s far enough from the fireworks at the Esplanade, that my dog can be left alone during that time?

it’s my first year living here so i’m not sure, thank you!

What are your favorite Nominalkompositum words?

And what does it mean in English?

edit: the words that become one word, apparently Germans get super creative

Is 12,000 flying blue miles fair for a broken tv the entire flight in KLM business?

I’m just wondering, it’s the first time it’s happened to me ever so idk

I was on a transatlantic flight a week ago and some people’s TVs didnt work. The purser at the beginning warned us and told us that someone will talk to us to discuss compensation. It was a full flight so there was no chance of switching. They even lightly offered to give us WiFi codes later on at the flight which they never did so I just paid for WiFi.

Then I got an email saying I got 12k flying blue miles for it.

Is this fair or is there room/a way to get them to increase it? I know it’s a different airline but I’m seeing people get compensated like 200 bucks for a broken tray table with United.

Thank you!

edit: thank you all for your answers! it’s very helpful!

What’s the fastest you’ve driven on the Autobahn? And with what car?

Idk, just curious! I did 132 mph which is 212 kph in an Audi rental car, on a highway between Berlin and Dresden. We were kinda scared ngl. Also I love how the cars move away when they see someone coming fast! It’s so considerate lol

A rant

I took a week-long Dutch class like a month ago in The Netherlands. It was a six hour class each day for five days. My Dutch teacher at the end of this told me that I’m probably somewhere between A1 and A2, so that’s what I tell people in the online language exchange platforms I use. Before and after that class, I would kinda just teach myself without real structure but I’m still learning things.

Can someone please explain to me why someone feels the need to point out to me that they think whatever I wrote was AI generated because it seems way too good for A1 and a half (which btw, it really isn’t?? It’s a paragraph of me telling people where I’m from, where I was born, what I do, etc…like this was lowkey Day 1 of that Dutch class or any other language class) Like, why? Does that make them feel better to like put people down? It’s happened to me twice already.

What they don’t see and know is that I studied German up to the B2 level, in an intensive class setting in a language school for a year! 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday, for a year, in a language school in Germany. Which helps a lot with Dutch, like I basically have a lot of the structure down. They also don’t see that it takes me like 15 minutes to form a simple paragraph. Because I wanna make sure what I write are as correct as they can be. And okay, when I don’t know a word, I google it! Like “what is law firm in Dutch?” or “what is the perfect tense of leren?” Is that considered cheating?? Because it’s actually teaching me a lot of words when I do that.

It’s so annoying. It’s like, I know I shouldn’t let people get to me, but these people are erasing all the classes I sat through and shit and just immediately thinking nope- those classes and headaches after classes because it was so much information in one day absolutely didn’t happen. It was AI.

I’m crashing out fr 😅 (TL)

A little PSA to those flying from Boston Logan in business: you can use the Delta Sky Club!!!

I didn’t know this when I flew to Amsterdam a few weeks ago and I used the kinda crusty and outdated and crowded and small Air France lounge because that’s what it says on the KLM app!! I flew again last night and just like before, it said on the app that my lounge is Air France, but I decided to randomly check out the Delta club out because it’s closer to the gate this time and it worked!!! It’s a bigger and newer lounge and the ambiance is better.

Or maybe i’m just the noob who didn’t know that KLM is part of SkyTeam.

Feeling a bit anxious about 1L summer internship

Hello! I really love what I’m doing right now with my 1L summer. That might be a big part of why I’m anxious and so much under pressure, because I really wanna impress the attorneys in this firm. The problem is, I have no idea HOW I’m doing. I’ve already worked on a few drafting tasks, some research, and client communication. The drafts get redlined and they come back with some redlines, nothing crazy, accompanied with just “thanks!” and one “yay that’s your work.” I’m so scared that they secretly think I suck at the job and are not telling me to not hurt my feelings. I guess a good ish sign is that they still give me tasks. But there’s a lot of attorneys in this firm and I haven’t done multiple tasks yet for one attorney.

My plan is to go to all the attorneys I’ve done a task for and ask them for feedback. It’s so hard though because they’re all busy.

Also, is anyone else experiencing/has experienced when they were a 1L this feeling of constantly being unsure about their work? Is it normal, with it being my third week in? I am definitely feeling a lot more comfortable now than three weeks ago, for sure.

Honestly any words of wisdom or advice would be great. Thank you!

People who moved back to or chose a major US city over the Netherlands, why? Are you happier?

I’m asking because I already feel down about how I don’t live in The Netherlands and I need stories about how the grass isn’t always greener. I’d love to hear from people (Dutch people or Americans who moved/moved back to the US or non Dutch/Americans who chose the US and not The NL) who ultimately are happier in a major city in America.

I visited The Netherlands for vacation a couple weeks ago and loved it so. freakin. much. The people were SO. KIND. And I don’t just mean standard politeness. No. Like, I met a few people and met up with them again the next day, the instructor at the pilates class I signed up for was so helpful, I took Dutch classes and my teacher showered me with compliments and hugged me a lot and even took us out to coffee and cake, and also yeah like, people were so kind and eager to strike up a convo with you in shops. Someone even offered me a snack in the train when they sat across me in like the seats for groups of four. All these plus the picturesque canals and countryside, all the cute houses, the biking lifestyle, the cafes, the cute shops, and the safety? It feels like the perfect country.

The weird part is that I do love my life in Boston.
My friends are here and I love the city’s vibe. I’m also in law school and it’s hard as hell sometimes, but I genuinely love what I’m studying and the career I’m working toward (the reason why I know deep down it will be a mistake to stop this just to move to another country irresponsibly). It’s not like I’m miserable here. And honestly, a lot of the things I loved about the Netherlands exist here too. People in Boston are nice, and it’s also beautiful!

But ever since I got back, I can’t stop feeling sad, wondering if I would be happier in the Netherlands.

It also didn’t help that I met a guy there who is not Dutch, doesn’t speak a lick of Dutch, studied intl law in the Netherlands, and he told me he gets hired by US law firms as the Dutch law expert (which I would be doing anyway). And so I was thinking, “Wait, so that was an option this whole time? That could’ve been me!!” i knoww im jealousss 🥺

So yeah, I guess I’m looking for stories from people who chose a major US city over the Netherlands and are happy they did. Right now i’m so convinced I’ve discovered this perfect country and missed my chance to build a life there. Like I only have a few years of my 20s and I’m feeling sad that I’m not spending it there.

How is everyone feeling and prepping for their first day of 1L summer? I’m both so excited and stressed! 😳

It starts real soon and I feel so scared. Like, I’m not ready. I got straight into vacation mode during the two weeks in between because I was so burnt out and I now really feel like I know NOTHING. Like I forgot how to function. And I really wanna impresss my boss, he has an impressive resume and he seems really kind and nice, and well-connected!! There will also be days where we have to go to court and I am so terrified for that.

I already prepped what i’m gonna wear tomorrow (the good news is that I can wfh some days of the week so I don’t need to lay out too many clothes), I might do a run through of how to drive to my workplace, etc.

I think I’m gonna give myself a crash course on the classes my internship for sure touches upon (that would for sure be Civil Procedure, Property, Contracts and Legal Research and Writing).

What would be the best ways to do this crash course for myself? How are YOU prepping for your first day and for the internship in general? How are YOU feeling?? What general advice do you have on how we can impress our bosses and be the best interns??? Thank you!!!

Do you have to be feisty personality-wise and super intense to be in family law, or does that just naturally happen due to the nature of the job?

edit to add: like can you be introverted and still be successful in family law

Does it make sense to get the Air France-KLM if I’m already using the AMEX Plat for all flight-related purchases to optimize earning points?

edit: oh god i just totally realized I butchered the title…i meant the Air France KLM Visa Signature card!

I fly Air France like twice a year and anticipate using KLM once a year now or maybe more, I also have two people in my life who are happy to have me fake-pay for their Air France flights (between them that’s a total of at least 5 expensive round trip flights per year because it’s always during the peak summer or christmas season). Also, whenever I fly Air France (and KLM now as I have fallen in love with the airline), I almost always do the upgrades to business during check-in. But yeah I’ve always just used the AMEX Plat for all flight-related purchases. But maybe I can just do the AMEX plat for all non AF-KLM flights. Because it’ll still be worth it with the flying blue silver status x6 for each dollar spent right?

It just might mean my Plat will not earn a lot of points. I use other airlines from time to time. But if Air France-KLM are the ones I for sure will use multiple times every year, I should go for this right?

Also the new Bilt promotion- I don’t have a Bilt card YET but I’m sure I’m able to use it if I ask my landlord right? And that would be even more reason to get this Air France KLM card?

Other info that may or may not be helfpul:

I already have the AMEX gold, a Chase Sapphire Preferred, and the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant. The Amex and Chase earn a lot of points already.

Any input or advice will be amazing, thank you!!

edit: oh and im pretty decent with making sure the amex plat’s annual fee is justified, even if it just sits there and does nothing
