How will Latin America, as a region that's aging before it gets rich, deal with low fertility rates and aging? Will they resort to immigration? Will they try to bring their diasporas back?

Latin America is in a complicated situation because it's starting to age before it gets rich. Fertility rates in Latin America are currently very low.

Because Latin America only recently fell to very low fertility rates and has a very large and still relatively youthful population (although it will age fast), if fertility rates increase again, Latin America again will start growing and age slower. The same can't be said for Europe where fertility rates have been below replacement since the 70s, so population momentum has run out and the populations are very aged.

But if Latin America can't get it's fertility back up, what will it do? Will it import millions of immigrants to keep the economy running and support the growing elderly population? Will it maybe try to bring it's diaspora back home? (For example the U.S has 60+ million Latinos alone)

Or will it not bring in immigration and age without it?

Why are non white people called a minority in the west?

Hi, I'm not from america, and sorry if my English will have any mistakes, but I hear a lot of times Americans calling non white people minority. Why is this? White people make up 5-8% of the global population and non white people 92-95% of the world.

What I'm confused about why the term minority is used? Why is it used? Isn't saying non white easier and more realistic?

I was seeing a statistic recently, that was showing how big china's population was, and they said the number of Chinese women worldwide is barely lower then the total number of white people in Europe and north America + Oceania. So I don't understand why americans call non white people minority? It confuses me a lot

I have heard a few times that the reason is because In America white people make up the majority of the population, but to me it still doesn't make sense. We live in a globalized world today, the world is connected, we have the internet and we can easily see everyone from every part of the world. Maybe it would make sense if this was, idk like the 1700s when a white American might not see anyone who's not white (or black). But we live in a globalized world today, so the term doesn't make sense.

Also from what I've seen western countries have big non white populations now, like America is 56% white, European countries have lots of non white people too. So this just shows that globalization has happened, and it's very normal to see non white people in the west now. For example what happens if America when america 50% white? Will they change it from saying minority to non white then?

Instead of all this, why don't people just use white and non white? Does minority have some extra significance in america and the west?

Latin American men are going to India and east/south east Asia for women??

So we all know that one reason of fertility decline (out of like a million reasons) is the fact that many men are deciding to go to other countries and find wife's, basically passport bros.

Recently I met a Latino guy, and he told me that he and his friends (a group of Latinos, Mexicans, Colombians, Chileans etc..) took a trip to India where they got with many indian women, and slept with them. It was basically a group of men travelling to India for passport broing? And I've recently also heard that Latino men going to places like Thailand and the Philippines for wives or to sleep around also has increased A LOT.

When I asked him why he went to India to sleep or get with women, he started saying how latinas were all "ugly, didn't take care of themselves, fat, don't know how to treat a man right, only want money" etc etc.

Now I think most of us know that in devolped countries men do do this, and it's literally a phenomenon called being a passport bro. But these are developed countries. Latin America is not developed, and yet this stuff is also starting there?

My point is, this type of mindset is going everywhere around the world? I remember Latin America being a place To go find foreign wife's if a man can't get much at home, but now Latin American men themselves don't want their own women, and would rather go for asian men.

It's like how the fertility decline spread worldwide so quickly, men refusing to date their own women and go abroad instead to find a wife (or not even that, just to hook up) has spread to non western countries.

I even remember seeing a video of a Chinese guy in Iran saying on a vlog how "easy" Iranian women are and how much more beautiful than asian women they are when he was on a trip to Iran. Although I'm not too surprised by this happening in china, I know foreign brides are HUGE in china and korea (usually Vietnamese or south east asian women) and to a certain extent in Japan too.

But it seems like it's spreading everywhere, won't this make fertility decline even more?

When choosing to immigrate, which country do most people in your country want to go to, and why?

I recently saw that Spain has a huge Colombian community, with many immigrating there every year, meanwhile Mexicans are barely in spain.

I know Mexico is closest to the USA, which is why most would prefer to go there over any country, but this got me wondering how the countries that people want to immigrate to, differ by country to country in Latin America.

Are latinas very sexualized or fetishized in spain?

Hi everybody, I have a latina friend who lives in spain (she's Colombian), and she always tell me how hyper sexualized she is in spain. Spanish men always catcall her, hit on her. Her being latina is mentioned a lot in convos, and she said a lot of the times on dates, Spanish men say how excited they are to go on a date with a latina, one time a guy even said he was so excited to finally have a "brown latina", he mentioned her skin color, which she saw as her being fetishized.

She says she isn't the only latina who feels like this, she has many other latina friends, and they have also said they feel very fetishized by Spanish men.

Many of her friends and her have also said that that a lot of the times, she finds out into the Conversation, the men she's talking to that explicitly mention her being latina or Latin American a lot, turn out to be right wing supporters, the type that are like, "all immigrants should be kicked out" and stuff. So she finds it interesting how those same Spanish men who voted right wing want a "submissive latina wife". (In their words)

Many times the guys she talks to also talk down Spanish women, calling them manly, feminist and "ugly", which is of course a huge ick for her, because for her anyone talking down on other women is a red flag.

So is this something latinas experience a lot in spain? Why is this? Are latinas the beauty standard in spain? Or do they have some stereotype?

Are there any mixed Portuguese and Indian people in India?

I know the Portuguese colonized parts of India for a long time, so do people from mixed marriages today exist? Were there even mixed marriages?

Love island USA is so refreshing to see after watching UK

On love island UK, basically every guy only wants a blonde, nothing else. The only black girl has been ignored, literally been talked to by no one except the sole black man there, ope. She and the black guy were basically forced to couple up because none of the men wanted her, and none of the women wanted the black guy.

Angelista (the black girl) has literally had almost or 0 talks with any other man in the villa because everybody else refuses to chat with her.

But seeing LI USA after UK, I was shocked adding the black women desired, given options, not having to worry about men not wanting them, I was actually shocked because if you watch UK and then go straight to the u.s one, it's mind-blowing how differently black women are treated on both shows.

So seeing LI USA where black women can be free, and actually get a good and proper love island experience...is so heartwarming to see.

Why are Hispanic people so underrepresented in American media compared to black people?

Hi, I'm not American, so sorry if I'm maybe not right, but I've noticed that whenever I watch american TV, besides white people, there are lots of black people, but barely any Hispanics.

Which I can understand because I know America has a big black population, but recently I checked, and only 12% of america is black, while 20% of America is Hispanic. Why are Hispanic people shown less then black people? Shouldn't they be shown more? It's sad they don't get representation.

In my country we basically only show our own people, but I know america is very diverse and that you guys show lots of different types of people. Which is why I expected american media to show lots of Hispanic people, but instead after white, it's mostly black, even if Hispanics are a Way larger percentage of the population. Shouldn't American media show more of Hispanic people, even more then black people because of their demographic size?

Why is this? Are there not lots of Hispanic actors in America maybe?

Which country have you been to that you felt was the most welcoming to Latin Americans and which one was the least welcoming to Latin Americans, and why?

I know everybody has different experiences, but I'm wondering which country out of all the countries you've travelled to (outside of Latin America) felt the most welcoming to Latin Americans and which ones felt the least welcoming to Latin Americans and why?

And why did it feel welcoming, or why did it not feel welcoming? Cultural similarities/ differences, a generally welcoming society/a generally closed off society etc, whatever reason.

Do you think Latin America should let in many Asians and Africans as it ages fast?

Latin America's fertility rate has recently taken a huge nosedive, with most nations now being below 1.5, and many near just 1. Argentina had just a 1.23 fertility rate in 2024, Chile 1.03, Colombia was 1.01 in 2025, Mexico was 1.38 in 2024, cubs 1.30 etc.

No Latin american country except Haiti has above replacement fertility (2.1) anymore.

Latin America is aging fast and soon it's populations will decline naturally like Europe's.

Chile grew naturally (births- deaths) by only 20k people in my 2025, and will soon decline naturally unless it brings in more people.

Argentina also went from having a natural change of 451k in 2014 to only 36k by 2024. All these countries will soon decline in population.

The main problem is aging, as countries age, there are not enough workers to support the elderly population, pensions etc.

So will Latin America bring in or should it being in millions of Africans and Asians to help itself when it ages? Bo country has not done this, even Japan is recording a record number of people entering it in 2025.

Millions of Asians and Africans would be willing to go to Latin America, I heard someone once say that to an African, Latin America is what Sweden is to Latin America. Latin America will be such an improvement in living standards and so many people would be willing to come.

So I just wanted to know do you support this? Or do you think Latin America will increase its fertility rates or it can survive without this?

Why aren't today's Filipinos mixed race and half Spanish like the Spanish colonies in Latin America? Philippines was ruled by Spain for hundreds of years like Latin America, but unlike Latin america, a huge majority of the Philippines never became mixed/mestizo. Why is this?

Why didn't the Spanish mix with Filipinos like they did with indigenous Latin Americans? I mean I know some mixing happened, but today that is a very small contribution, and I've heard even those who have Spanish DNA, only have it in very little amounts

Japan's population declines by a million people yearly, but if they don't accept immigrants, what will they do?

I've heard of such bad racism from Japanese people towards darker south east Asians and also other east Asian people, Japan doesn't want immigrants.

But if it doesn't want immigrants, how will the country go through it's aging etc crises??
