Anyone have experience working for Loretto?

I'm applying for their CNA training program and curious what the work environment is like. Pay seems decent and it would be more consistent than my current delivery job (albeit a bit of a paycut, nothing too drastic).

How's the culture, shift availability, management, etc. ?

The face of a pup who had a long day

Slept in till noon.

Went to the Puppy Store for a new toy and then the Ice Cream Store for a doggy sundae at 1.

Walkies and saw some friends at 3.

Came home and napped, then sunbathed in the back yard till 5.

Went to the dog friendly trivia night and saw even more friends at 6.

Got home too late to cook our Birthday Steak, but we got a can of Nice Puppy Food for dinner and we're now cuddled on the couch.

All in all, I think Brutus enjoyed his 4th birthday. Here's to many, many more!

(In case anyone was worried, we will cook the steak tomorrow, likely topped with sautéed mushrooms, a couple broccoli florets, and a little bit of cheese).

Aftermarket front faceplates that fit well with EOE "Universal" backplates?

Recently replaced my OEM backplate with a universal 5 /5.5 / 6 / 7th Gen universal backplate from EOE.

Product looks great, but the fit is a little tight with my front faceplate (https://a.co/d/0c0q1kxT).

I'm not planning to open mine up any time soon, but when I inevitably do, what are your preferred faceplates that fit and snap in no problem?

I would prefer a looser fit if anything so it's easier to pop open. This one fit great on my OEM, but the EOE universal is a bit tighter and the most recent time I reassembled it, it wouldnt fully close so one corner squeaks when you apply pressure.

Bonus points for stores that sell front faceplates only without the clickwheel, as I have 2 spare clickwheels and I am NOT replacing my stock ones unless they fail.

Wandering centering button: big thank you to the "just stick some tape on it" crowd.

Posted a couple weeks ago about my center button issue. I initially tried peeling the rubber dome off and resetting it to the center, which worked great.... for a week. Peeled it off again and tried to super glue it to the plastic button itself and I learned 2 things:

1: Absolutely dont even try that unless you have liquid super glue and phenomenal dexterity

2: Acetone will completely fuck up the plastic used for cases.

Thankfully, it was just the aftermarket center button that I had decided would work with super glue, or I would go back to the OEM black with the tape method (because the aftermarket is clear and I dont want to stare at an ugly black square).

Grabbed the button from a spare case, stuck 3 squares of electrical tape over the center dimple, and it fits and clicks just fine. Reassembling it now so fingers crossed I didnt break something when I took it apart.

I swear, as soon as I fill up this 512GB card, I'm buying 3 more and cramming this thing with 2tb of storage so I hopefully never have to open it again until the battery dies in 10 years.

I want to get my dad into TOOL. What track or album would you recommend?

He's in his mid 60s and grew up with Sabbath, ACDC, Metallica, the classic hard rock / metal bands. He is a huge fan of Zappa, Satriani, and Steve Vai, so I think he could appreciate the more math-rock coded, technical arrangements.

Give me your suggestion for one track, ideally from an album that he could listen to in its entirety and say "ive been missing out".

Probably my last harvest for awhile

Mother died in June, will likely have to sell her house and move in to an apartment for a few years while I go back to school. Already sifted the majority of the pile, this is about 1/4 of a years compost from a family of 2 (now 1). Ignore the odd bits of plastic, those were from "biodegradable" plastic bags that we stopped using awhile ago but are still not fully broken down a year later.

The pile won't go entirely to waste. I'm planning to mix this and a 2/3 full, 30 gallon tote into pots to propagate some raspberries and strawberries I started on the property. Might save the blueberries and asparagus I started as well (though they are both in sorry shape Due to drought, squirrels, and neglect during her illness and the subsequent lack of attention while my time was focused elsewhere). The plants will be sent to my dad about an hour away, hopefully he can keep them alive until I get land of my own.

Inputs were lots of clean cardboard, coffee grounds / filters, paper towels, vegetable waste, quite a few eggshells, grass clippings, wood ash from the firepit, and the occasional chicken bone. And of course, some vitamin P.

Anything left over after I pot up the plants I can save will likely be spread in the lawn, or just left for the new owners.

Never thought I'd get nostalgic over a pile of dirt, but this has been a pretty relaxing hobby, and for someone with significant ADD, one of the few routines I've been able to keep up with.

After much screwing around and cursing, myPod is functional again!

Was out of commission for a month after a drop caused the battery to pop out (no matter what they tell you, 3800mah batteries wont always fit in a slim back). Downgraded to a smaller battery, but as will happen, something on my original board broke and now the sound doesnt want to work.

Luckily, I was already looking for a 64mb RAM model and snagged a near mint 80GB model off FB a couple weeks ago. Had a wandering center button, but that was a very quick fix, didnt even need to glue it.

Finally had the time to sit down and swap everything over and, after some frustration getting the faceplate to fit on my new EOE backplate, it closes tight.

Next project will be troubleshooting the old board, but at least I shouldnt need to ever open this one again (or rather, for the foreseeable future. Doubtful I'll fill the 512Gb of storage for a loooooong time).

Added bonus: the donor ipod had a good condition hard drive and the front / back cases are both in very good condition. The click wheel is actually in better shape than the one on my old board so I didnt even consider the added stress of replacing a click-wheel.

Tell me you cracked an iPod for the first time without telling me...

Pretty sure my OG ipod has a bad mobo headphone connector. No headphone sound, no clicker. 30pin works, last I checked. Luckily, I found an 80GB in good condition (except for a worn out center button). Trying to crack the donor pod open to swap internals and, well, thats my cue to call it for the night.

Trying to get a modernized daily driver is turning into a headache.

Installing 2000mah battery in new backplate

There is a small tab extending from the new headphone jack chip. On my stock backplate, the ribbon-chip- thingy was folded vertically, I believe since I have had it. The new one is completely flat.

Do I install the battery on top of that little bit, or am I supposed to fold it vertically?

See pics.

Ignore the damaged / missing chip on the original backplate, thats why I got a new one in the first place.

Is this BSF?

Potted up some potatoes 2 days ago with fresh compost (yes, I know its late in the season, its more a proof of concept than anything). This came flying up out of my potato bucket today.

Located in central NY, whete i dont believe they occur naturally.

Is there a point in a 64Mb RAM board vs a 32 Mb for 5.5 gen?

I've found mixed answers.

I have a 32Mb board in my current, modded 5.5 gen.

Recently found a 60gb (so 64Mb RAM) pod on marketplace.

Is there any significant advantage to swapping my mods to the 64mb board, or is it more of a "fringe" case?

The 60gb model i found is mint, aside from a bad center button that needs a new "clicker".

Worth repairing the board and swapping the mods over?

Tactics Advance: how to get "tribe needed"?

Trying to farm Cinqueda early game. I loaded my new game save and booted a member so I have 5 clan members, but after cycling through for 10+ months, I havent seen it show up once.

Do you need to do "herb picking" first, or do I need to boot more members so I only have 4 (including Marche and Montblanc)?

Replaced battery and this piece of plastic broke while closing the ipod. No sound now.

Was this from the ribbon cable connector, and if so, is that something I can foreseeably get repaired?

Little irritated as the vendor swore up and down the battery would fit and that it was in the proper location and this appears to have broken when I closed the case.

Is this the ribbon cable connector, and if so, how much can I expect to pay for a repair?

Favorite handheld that takes original / flash cartridges?

Looking for a handheld console that will play both original carts and flash (specifically, Everdrives).

Ive been playing on a GBA SP and the screen is really not great for games with heavy text, neither is the smaller form factor comfortable for adult hands.

A console that takes cartridges and has full GB functionality (link cable is a must for pokemon, IR link would be a plus for Pokémon, but not necessary as I dont currently own an original GB with that functionality). Large battery / USBC charging / bluetooth, docking ability are definitely nice.

Ive seen the Analogue consoles recommended, but from what im reading the screen size isnt the greatest. I would really prefer a larger screen as my eyes arent perfect (especially after a couple beers).

Is there any device you guys prefer over the Analogues, or is it really the best solution out there?

Monarch, or Queen?

Central NY, chilling on my liatris.

Im hoping it's a monarch, I have a milkweed patch in my front yard that has yet to see caterpillars, and due to reasons I might not be in this house next summer.

Considering getting my CNA. Some questions regarding scheduling

Local SNF has a CNA training program. Advertised on indeed that starting pay after completion is $25/hr which is $9 more than MW, and roughly what I make in food delivery, but more consistent.

I'm trying to go back to school in the fall to knock out pre-reqs for my RN.

What kind of shifts do you all work? When I was in EMS, the default was 12's, but of course a lot of the time on an EMS shift is less active. Is it feasible to find 12s or 10s, or is the "default" CNA shift 8's?

For the purposes of going back to school, i would prefer to work 10 or 12 hour shifts to maximize my time available for school (and also ease of picking up OT for savings when I have to drop to part time).

Is it reasonable to expect 10 or 12s not only for availability, but keeping up with a more physical job where ill be on my feet more of the day?
