Campaign: Help @Google #GetTheMessage

Takeoff of

https://web.archive.org/web/20240101124231/https://www.android.com/get-the-message

Waddaya say?

It needs a lot of work, I haven't done much yet.

Before the dev work, it needs brainstorming how exactly to word things, and how exactly to use their critcisms of Apple back at them.

For starters, what is Google Messages contrasted against?

Degoogled phones?

But it's more than that, affects third party messaging apps, and the growing segment of digital detoxers using dumbphones.

Anyways, I need help, both with planning and designing, and with the actual development, I don't know much, if I'd do it by myself I'd be basically vibe coding.

Can Matrix be the Messaging solution for dumbphones?

> Dumbphone users have been held back by the limitations of SMS. > Can Matrix change that?

Hey everyone, I hope you don't mind me promoting my blog on minimalist and dumb tech over here.

Either way, I was hoping to start a discussion on Matrix's potential as a dumbable messaging platform.

What do you think?

Treating injured Kyocera e4610

Okay, so basically, someone brought me these two Kyoceras. Patient B apparently worked perfectly until it broke, while Patient A had a lot more problems, although its screen works.

They want me to fix Patient B using parts from Patient A.

How do I go about this?

Locked out of laptop running Windows 11, is there anything to do?

One of my younger brothers was playing around with the login screen on a Windows 11 laptop, and got us locked out.

Windows insists that it can't take the local password, and we need to go through the Microsoft account associated with the laptop.

I don't think this Microsoft account was ever used for anything besides for setting up this laptop, no one knows the password, no recovery information on the account, and my brother sent so many codes to the associated phone number that it won't send any more.

Tried going through Microsoft account recovery, it said we don't have enough info to recover the account.

Familiar story, I've heard similar things happen too many times, but now I'm the family's IT guy who's supposed to fix things.

There's nothing to do right?

Bitlocker is holding us ransom, no way around this?

Just double checking that there isn't anything I overlooked.

You just can't win

I use Linux, in case you were wondering.

Yeah, I know I'm toast, I'm insulting every fan on this sub, all at once.

Credits to SAMTIME for the line.

Need help with blind keystroke navigation to switch SATA Mode from RAID/RST to AHCI on an HP Notebook 15-ac series (broken screen)

I have an HP Notebook 15-ac158dx. The screen is mostly broken, only the bottom right quarter is usable. I want to install Ubuntu on it to remote into. The quarter of the screen that works is enough to be able to install Ubuntu and setup RDP from. The problem is that SATA Mode is enabled in the BIOS, and I obviously can't resize the BIOS UI to fit that quarter to be able to use it. Can anyone give me the exact sequence of keys to press to navigate the BIOS to SATA Mode and change it from Intel RST to AHCI, so I can do it blindly? I also need to know how to unlock whichever hidden tabs it's locked behind. Thanks

Best all in one budget tech repair kit?

I need to get a set of tools for repairing laptops and phones.

I have no idea what to get, I'm a bit of a noob to repairing hardware, slowly learning when it's necessary.

Google AI Mode recommends the Quinn 87-Piece Professional Electronics Repair Kit as a balance between price, quakity, and having what I need.

Is it a good option?

Are there any better options?

Sunbeam F1 Pro: A Basic Flip Phone that won't Dissapoint

The Sunbeam F1 Pro looks like a traditional flip phone, but don't let its appearance fool you. While it feels like a basic phone, it's anything but basic, offering just the right features to stay helpful without getting in your way.

I gave it a test run and used it as my daily driver, here are my thoughts on it.

Has anyone successfully rooted their TicWatch Pro 5?

Title.

It sounds like it should be possible, using the same custom data cable trick that was done for the Pro 3, but I want to know if anyone has actually done it.

Rootable recent gen watches?

I'm looking for a WearOS watch powerful enough to run a decent ASR model, like Moonshine tiny or SenseVoice (not Vosk), on device, and can be rooted.

So basically that means at least 1 GB of RAM and Snapdragon W5 or better.

The problem is that the only watch that I've found that matches are Pixel watches, and I want something that looks more like a regular watch, I'm not interested in something that looks so smartwatchy.

Are there any other rootable watches that I missed?

Okay, this was supposed to be a accompanied by a full article about Android vs non Android dumbphones, but I've been very busy recently and haven't had much time for proper writing, so this will have to do.

Basically, if you're familiar with the dumbphone market, you know that there aren't really any quality dumbphones, that work and run well, isn't half baked, and isn't based off of Android.

There are a few reasons for this, including how diffucult it is to make a good OS, and that the companies making these phones aren't actually using them as daily drivers.

It seems like we might finally have a good option.

A Hareidi company in Israel has made a non Android phone for kosher phone users over there, and it from what I'm hearing, it might actually be a good, polished dumbphone.

I spoke to one person involved, who's using this as his main phone, and he's coming from a Qin.

I spoke to the company about whether they plan to sell it in the US.

They said that they it hasn't been tested in the US yet, and right now they're focusing on their Israeli market, but if I try and it works well, then we can probably bring it to the US.

It has the bands to work here, just wasn't approved by The Big Networks.

I have someone who's there right now and would be able to bring some over, but I need help covering the costs.

If anyone is interested in helping with this, respond here, PM me, or email me at devinthebm@outlook.com.
