I have a Gen 2 that I’ve upgraded and messed with and loved.

The only thing I want, that it doesn’t have, is the ability to comfortably pass at 140 KM/H if needed to get away from someone on the highway.

Could a Gen 3, with the same love and upgrades (16T sprocket, suspension etc) do this? Or do I look at a Norden 901 or other adventure bike. How is a Gen 3 at sustained 130 KM/H?

I just want a bike that’s a KLR that can go fast, and get there fast, when needed. Seen a lot of different opinions on this.

If no, what bike do you recommend? I’m very tall, and only plan on going on logging roads so probably a big Adv bike, but KLR style, reliable and relatively simple/cheap repairs.

Hi All!

Trying to make my perfect build, two qui gons, neopixel, quick coupler.

Brand not so important, but most qui gons are longer hilts than necessary for the electronics inside.

Could one feasibly cut them down and thread them themselves?

Hoping for more of the “small maul” length.

Feedback? A custome shop who could do this?

I’m in Canada, and have gone through every store in the buyers guide looking for alternatives or other hilts, but having a quick couple in stock and reasonably priced sets is hard to find, oh well.

I’m planning cross Canada rode trip!

I’m prepared for 16,000 km+, with a $3,500 CAD fuel allowance (current price plus a few %)

My KLR has every part modded, the downside is realistically I cap at 120 KM/H, our roads generally max at 110KM/H so not much passing. The upside, a bike famous for reliability that I’m well versed in, with a travel toolkit for everything.

I’m allowing myself a 30 day minim and 45 day maximum with camping taking up 90% of my time, and splurging for 10% hotels with the hope (no expectation) of some kind strangers along the way. Yes, I’m aware of that danger potential.

I am staying in Canada. I’m budgeting for 40% crap tent made meals, 40% fast food meals. 20% restaurants.

I’ve decided on a tent that accommodates a quality folding cot. Clothes for 8 days hoping for a laundromat every 5.

I am young, fit and able. What else do I need to think of and prep for. Advice? Ideas? Help me redditors! Include thoughts on the topics I’ve discussed as well.

I replaced front and rear suspension a while ago, I did progressive front forks and a tusk 8.0kg/mm rear.

I’m about 210 with clothes and gear, I have bags and a top box.

I’m at 4/5 on preload and still feel too bouncy, I’m thinking I’ll go for the most stiff tusk at 9.3kg/mm

Any other options that are I the same price range?

Any tips?

Just did the MCP kit for my 2017.

Removed the snorkel, did the fuel tap and air cut off mods, and added the low speed mixture thumbscrew.

I was told by Grant (mcp) for my specific setup to turn the thumbscrew out 3.25 turns from bottomed out, which I did . The instructions are to get idle at 1100 RPM, lean the bike until it cuts out, then adjust the mixture screw back a 3/4 turn.

I leaned the mixture screw all the way and could not get it to cut out, so I left it at 3.25 turns out and went for a ride.

Definitely felt the difference, but the biggest thing was I lost a lot of stopping power in my engine breaking. Before I could almost always avoid using my breaks, just let of the gas, but now I’m gliding, and frankly I want my engine breaking back, otherwise things were good.

I did notice that sometimes coming to a stop I’d be idling high at 1800, I triple checked my throttle cables have free play at all angles, my choke cable is as loose as it can be.

When I got home, I was again idling at 1100.

I let the bike sit for 10, started it up, and was at 1500 idle consistent. I changed the idle screw so I was back at 1100, gave some revs and a few times stuck at 1500 for a few before going back to 1100.

The point of all this info dumping is I don’t know what to do, I YouTube a lot but someone please help me.

TLDR; I don’t know how to fine tune my idle/mixture I need instructions

Hi all, did the mcp upgrade, removed the snorkel but it’s much shorter than all the videos I’ve seen.

Just wondering if some models have a short one or if there’s more I don’t see, I looked as best I could.

I’m in Canada, my Ukrainian girlfriend and I have been dating for about 2 months. She’s been here for two years, is fluent in English and I’m starting to pick up some Ukrainian!

We first bonded over the fact I knew the song Припинда that’s just came out, I know it’s a tik tok kinda song but we like it.

I was wondering if making a Припинда would be an appropriate gift, the simpler ones are easy enough (I’ve watched a few tutorials).

I’m curious if there’s any cultural significance I should be aware of with size/pattern/colour, or with giving this as a gift in general. I was thinking pink, she has a lot of pink things haha.

Pictures are the kind I would be able to make, there are some more complex ones that are like a mesh I’ve seen but definitely more skill involved.

Forgive the pic my camera sucks and the muzzles still mucked up from removing the front sight/bayonet assembly.. and a ways from being fixed.

Front to back:

Magpul DT PR stock with riser, on a magpul folding pica tinny/buffer tube

The buffer tube on the matador aluminum stock is too high to use irons, so I added a picatinny adapter.. the then used a folding buffer tube.. but hey now I can use irion’s and my red dot.

Matador aluminum stock, cerakoted, and removed the top rail over the buffer tube and modified it so it can be field stripped without taking those 4 side screws off

Gunfighter pistol grip mod 3

3D printed rubber filler between stock and dust cover

Extended bolt handle, spray painted

Gunsmith did the bolt mod, and trigger job, crisp and hardly any creep left

Archangel lever mags, I got lucky and they worked right out the box, no failures to feed

Bad ace picatinny mount with irons

Holoson 510C green dot, cut a small groove in the mount so you can remove the gas tube and keep the mount on

Magpul gen 2 angled for grip

Small sling mount on the other side

Trueshot bolt on iron sight, has held zero but unfortunately had to angle a few degrees to zero with the bad ace mount, works but wonky

I don’t have a way to weigh this, but after removing the front sight assembly and the top rail of the stock.. I gotta say it’s not bad at all

Anyone have a spectre ballistics magazine block they’d part with? Any thoughts on how to make one, or 3d print?

I have an aluminum stock that doesn’t hang low enough to pin like some people have to do the duckbill delete mod.

Long shot but maybe someone has an idea!

Hello all!

This is my 2017 KLR, and in proper fudd fashion I’ve modded out nearly every aspect of her. A lot has been done since these pics.

My last step is paint, I’m planning on painting all the plastics, the tank, the exhaust (up to the slip on I added), and possibly the spokes and skid plate. The exhaust is the only part on her with surface rust.

For the plastics, it seems pretty clear from this forum and others that it’s gunna be sand, a plastic primer, krylon fusion, and a 2k clear coat.

I’m wondering if the krylon fusion and 2k coat will work just as well for the tank and exhaust. Will they still need a primer if properly prepared? What would you use? I’d prefer to use the same materials.

Anything to know about the spokes?

If you’re curious, I’m debating between a two tone green/brown camo-esque paint as I have lots of it already, or a teal/turquoise one colour look.
