If you knew someone looking to rent an apartment in Whitby are there any buildings you would warn people to avoid like the plague?
EDIT:
I'm not concerned about general safety in Whitby, I'm more concerned about potentially toxic landlords and particular buildings that are "problematic".
I found Skipper’s boyfriend Kevin today at a garage sale for $5. Never even knew he existed. Anyone know which Kevin he is? I’m guessing Tweaking Twink Kevin (those eyes! lol).
Hello Community! These were lurking in a bag of bulk LEGO at the thrift, along with a bunch of other more easily identifiable Playmobil bits. I was in the fence with these ones…
EDIT: Thank you all! This community never disappoints! Seriously, ask for help in Hot Wheels or LEGO and you get snark but never here. You all rock!
Yesterday I was at the thrift and a saw a huge bag of bulk bricks, like an overstuffed 3XL Ziplock freezer bag, at a really low price. I was so tempted. Unfortunately they were dirty. Very dirty. But that price... and all the Minifigs I could see... But I passed because I could just tell they were really, really, gross.
Then I couldn't stop thinking about it so I went back this morning and bought them for $6.99.
Normally I just put all the bricks in a mesh bag and half-heartedly wash them in the sink. I knew these would be bad, but I wasn't prepared for just how bad. The bricks were sticky. They were sticking to each other. They were sticking to bag. They were sticking to my gloves. There was gum on some and other unidentifiable stuff. It was really really gross.
Under normal circumstances I take out anything with stickers or a pull back motor but not today. I picked out the random crud as best as I could and then it all went into a bucket to soak. The colour of the water on the third soaking was still brown. And the hair! Oh the hair!!! They're still soaking right now, this time with bleach.
Long story short, I got the ick really bad. I hope this batch pays off because I think I'm off bulk bricks for awhile now.
I was at the thrift today and spotted spot on the bag wall. I don't remember ever seeing a Little People dog that looked like this, I think I've only ever seen them with black bodies. I'm only a casual collector, did I stumble upon a rarity or a fake? There was a fire truck and a couple of firemen with the "arms" in the bag so maybe is this a firehouse dalmatian?
One of my favourite things to do is buy bags of random bricks at the thrift and try to figure out what sets the brick came from. I've happened upon a couple of Hidden Side sets lately and they're kinda... great. I don't know why I didn't pay attention to them when they came out. Interesting builds and unique bricks and cool Minifigs. Maybe it was the multi-media aspect and the marketing? Too late now! Any themes other people regret not getting into?
I'm currently looking for a job. I set up a Linked In account using a unique email, and the resume I posted there had a few key phrases that only appear in that version. So I know this scammer got my information through Linked In.
The first contact threw up red flags immediately, but I was intrigued so I played along for a bit. The amount of red flags was amazing. Whoever this is is obsessed with me sending a copy of my resume, but to what purpose? They already have everything from my Linked In account.
I'm also wondering how vulnerable this has left me. How concerned should I be and what steps should I take.
IKEA creates some great fabrics but I've noticed lately that they don't even pretend to make patterns that repeat. Aside from being annoying, it's really limiting. I wanted to make some curtains and I think they'd just look odd. Or am I looking at it all wrong? Is there a use for fabrics that definitively do not line up?
EDIT: These pictures were created by taking two screen shots of the full width of the fabrics and attempting to line them up. I then took a screen shots of the two widths as one. I couldn’t figure out how the patterns repeated side to side because they don’t.
$5 for something I’ve seen sold for $30? BARGAIN. If only I needed one!
The clerk kindly offered to go to the back for the fresh box they just received, I didn’t even ask her to! There were 3 in the box and I bought…. 1 because I’m not a jerk. I also got one Bionicle Minifig.
I'm going to put this as PG as I can.
It strikes me as totally strange that much of the modern discourse places a strict binary on gay sexual acts. That gay men must be one or the other when, in my experience, that is simply not the case. What I appreciated about this series is that it manages to show the full range of loving acts between men without value judgment. Hopefully this will spill out into the larger culture.
I also appreciate that it managed to depict so much while showing so very, very little. The idea that this show is being criticised for being pornographic and not for "children" is laughable. More is shown in perfume ads depicting straight people.
Looks like my local thrift encourages drinking on the job now. This is the same store I got a nearly complete 75105 Millennium Falcon for almost the same price.
Is the nail polish at Dollarama a waste of money? I was in a store and they had a bottle that was an exact match to my favourite t-shirt. I almost bought it to wear to PRIDE, but hesitated because not knowing anything about nail polish I thought it might not give good results.
I could rant about erratic pricing, over pricing, mixing no name bricks with the genuine article, but I've come to expect all that. When I buy LEGO off the bag wall, or even when they occasionally have sets that are in mangled boxes, it doesn't surprise me when the mini-figures are missing. TBH, I kinda expect someone is in the back sifting through the bulk bricks. What I don't get, what I just can't get my head around, is why, more often than not, only the canopies are always missing from vehicles. Just that one hunk of clear plastic that is integral to the model. Entire cars missing JUST the windshield, or the plastic canopy roof, or planes missing the cockpit cover. It makes sense that this type of piece would become detached, but for them not to show up anywhere on the bag wall ever? I've been shopping at this one Toronto Value Village (a Canadian chain of for profit thrift stores) since it opened and I've never come across loose canopies on the bag wall. It just seems weird. This week I picked up a complete Millennium Falcon, mini-figures, weapons and all, missing just that ONE piece that ruins the whole set: the g-d canopy!!! What gives? (Yes, I know I can order it online)
What iPhone cables and charging blocks at Dollarama aren’t a complete waste of money? Most are alright as a temporary solution but which ones work well, what should I look for?
This is probably a really basic question and I think it's called a gravity feed system. Here's the situation: I have a battery operated bubble making machine that works super well but the reservoir for holding the bubble liquid is super small. What I'd like to do is have a large bottle of bubble liquid connected to the reservoir with a tube that will automatically keep the reservoir full without overflowing. I know how a siphon works, what I don't know is how to create a system where the liquid stops automatically and just doesn't empty the entire larger container into the reservoir. Apologies if this isn't the right community to ask this but any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone know if any of the Toronto movie theatres are selling the He Man Battle Cat popcorn bucket or the sword drinking cup? I tried calling one of the Cineplexes downtown and the person I spoke to was less than helpful.
Got a bunch of McDonald’s Hot Wheels Happy Meal Toys at VV today. Unfortunately the stickers are in really bad condition. The one pictured is the best of the bunch. I’m planning on just removing them unless someone has a compelling reason why I shouldn’t.
I usually avoid buying cars off the bag wall at VV, especially when they overprice them at $5.99. But I took a look and saw this dude! Great condition too. Not TH or STH or anything but I’m happy with a car only produced in 2005.
