Can someone recommend a few books for understanding the different sects of Buddhism?

I think sects is the right word, I’m hoping for something maybe a little deeper than just the 3 main schools. I’m interested in learning about Tibetan Buddhism, but I would like something that kind of sums up a lot of the different traditions. The only one I know of already is The Dalai Llamas one teacher, many paths (or something like that). Any recommendations?

How do you guys cope with feeling torn between belief systems?

Right now I’m extremely interested in both Buddhism and Hinduism, but it seems conflicting because of Hinduisms basic belief that everything is God/Brahman and Buddhisms belief that well nothing is God, and there is no unchanging soul underneath everything. I’m not sure how to progress through this hang up, but I think it’s the next step on my path, what do you guys think?

I want to help people in my community, how could I go about this?

I’m not sure of a good sub to share this in, so I figured I would try here. I’m somewhat of a selfish person, and I’m trying to grow. I do not do AA, I am somewhat active in Smart Recovery but nothing over the top. I live in a fairly mid sized city in Florida, not a super small town, but definitely not a big city. I do believe it’s big enough that there are volunteer organizations and things like that. I want to volunteer some of my time in helping people that need it without any expectation of personal gain. Any recommendations on what some stuff like this would be? Thanks so much, I hope this is okay to post here. I feel like this is a helpful part of my recovery, therefore worthy of being talked about here.

How do you live a happy, sober life without AA?

I’ve been to tons of meetings in my life. I’ve been to a couple this time around, but not many. I usually just get made to feel uncomfortable when everyone says it can’t be done without a sponsor and it turns me off. I never really maintained any sobriety while doing AA. This time will be 4 years in June, basically just off of reading This Naked Mind by Annie Grace(I’m pretty sure that’s the right name). I heard so many people back in the day say that there is just no way to live a happy, sober life without the 12 steps. Sometimes when I get into a slump I struggle with those voices that were telling me that, and think maybe that’s to blame for the way I sometimes feel. Like I still have that hole that I used to fill with drugs and alcohol that supposedly the 12 steps will remove. I know this is probably not completely rooted in reality, I’m just posting this to see how you guys go about being happy without drugs or alcohol, and without AA. Thanks.

I’m on 28 capsules a day, what should I expect, and looking for any advice.

I desperately want to stop, it’s extremely hard because I work a full time job, I’m not sure exactly how much is in each capsule, but I’m pretty sure it’s around about a .5 gram. I stagger them throughout the day, I’ve been doing this for about 5 years. They do absolutely nothing for me anymore, I do this only to avoid withdrawal. These are standard sized Earth Kratom organic capsules.

How did you guys stop thinking only of yourself most of the time?

So I’m 23 days sober, I’ve been doing meetings almost everyday, I don’t have a sponsor yet, but I have a guy that I’m planning on asking once I run into him again. One thing I keep hearing people say when speaking on their inventory, is that they only thought about themselves. I’ve noticed this in myself, yet I don’t know how you would start going about changing it, looking for some responses for people who have been through the steps. Thanks

The frets are level, my action is between 2.5 and 2.75 at the 12th fret low E. I have a good amount of relief in the neck, it’s not backbowed nor is there too much. Idk. I play Bluegrass and it’s the worst when I play capo 2. (Which is quite often) I live in Florida where the humidity is very high so I’ve been thinking about getting one of the 2 way humidifiers that will remove humidity if it gets too high. I’ve also been looking at other components on the guitar like tuning machines, I don’t have a tuner clipped on, Ive reached inside and messed with my pickup and it doesn’t seem to have anything that would be causing it, all the ball ends are seated properly. Please help. My action is on the high side as we play hard and fast. But as you can see here it does it even when playing quietly and alone.
