Hey again! I finished off Goumang, and I'm now a good way into the factory. The lore bible is coming along slowly but surely.

I figured I'd share a Google Drive link, which will allow you to view the current status of the lore bible if you're interested. If you want to open it and view all the in-text links and stuff, you need a free software called Obsidian, and you need to use its open folder as vault feature.

Obviously, there are many entries yet to be made, and a lot to add to certain entries in order to complete them, but I'm still chugging away!

My laptop issues have finally been solved! I spent like two hours at the mall getting all my data transferred to a new computer, but I finally have a laptop again.

The trip was also worth it because I got a good corn dog.

Now, the real work can finally begin. I'm starting by creating my own personal lore bible, so that all the interpretations in the video will be my own. It'll essentially be a Nine Sols wiki made entirely by me. I went ahead and created some links and pages of the most bare-bones information based on my own memory, so I have a base to work on when I play the game and take more in-depth notes (two examples shown above).

That leads to my next step: doing another playthrough of Nine Sols and taking in-depth notes to complete my own personal lore bible, which I will then use to write the script for the video. I'll be playing on standard because I love the challenge. Honestly, this will probably be the longest part of the video creation process, as my last 100% playthrough was around thirty hours.

Im finally going home from France after what has been an amazing two months, and I can get my laptop fixed to get started on the video in earnest.

I have a question for you guys though. There are two main ways I can go about this video: either using a mix of the wiki to fact check myself as well as my own interpretations of what I remember from playing the game.

OR playing the game from start to finish taking notes the whole time and making a video exclusively about my own interpretations. I think this would make the video more authentically me, but also it will take MUCH longer to produce.

What would you guys prefer?

Hello! I posted on here a week ago about whether or not I should start working on a high effort Nine Sols lore video, and I decided to start the project! I will be posting weekly updates to keep myself accountable for finishing it.

However, I am currently studying abroad in France and my laptop is broken, so I will not be able to get that fixed and start on the video in earnest until I get back home in a little over a week.

Until then, I’m chilling, playing some games, and enjoying my time in France! I included some pictures of cool stuff from my trip.

When I get back home I’ll get that laptop fixed and start working on my own personal lore document that I will then turn into a script.

Yesterday I posted about wanting to do a really high effort Nine Sols lore video, and I’ve decided I will be starting the project.

However, I am studying abroad in France right now and have a broken laptop, so I’ll be starting the project in three weeks after I get back home and get a new laptop.

The process will begin with me doing another playthrough and taking extensive notes of everything in the game, as I want what I present to be my own interpretations and findings.

WHAT I NEED HELP WITH:

Two things: accountability, and software.

1: often times I get burned out on creative projects before I finish, so for accountability I will be doing weekly progress updates on this Reddit after I begin the project.

2: I saw online once that there is a software that lets you freely create your own wiki type documents with in text links and stuff. I’ve seen some DMs online use it for their world building but idk what it’s called. It would be super helpful in my note taking process if anyone has any idea what I’m talking about.

I’m super excited to get started on this when I get back home! I’ve been wanting to try and make things more often and I think a high effort project like this could be really fun!

I just beat the game and now I’m thinking of making a YouTube video that’s a mix of comedy, short sketches, and intense lore deep dives explaining the entire story and world building of nine sols as well as my personal takes on the game’s themes.

This would likely take several hours to make and not come out for months if I decided to do it but it would be sick as hell.

I’d start by doing another playthrough and taking extensive notes on everything because I’d want to use my own findings and interpretations rather than just copying the wiki.

Then I’d have to actually organize and write a script that explains everything in an all encompassing and sensical manner.

Then I’d have to record some clips from the game and get music, as well as going out with my friends to film some sketches.

Then I’d have to edit it all.

This could legit take months because I’m in film school rn and am about to start working on my thesis but I really wanna do it 😭

I’m tired of Interstellar being the punching bag of the cinema community. Just because Nolan got mainstream again from Oppenheimer does not mean he’s a bad director. He has a clear style and sticks to it with his films. His movies have interesting world building and characters.

Popularity does not equal bad, and regardless of how good or bad the Odyssey is it won’t make his previous movies any worse.

Idc how cold of a take it is, Interstellar is a good movie!

I was at a chalk art festival in France and decided to draw this. I DO NOT draw normally so I’m proud of how it turned out.

My friends and I often debate this:

If you could be a pirate, a cowboy, a knight, or a samurai, which would you be?

This is going off of the fantasy, not the reality, so pirates eat tropical fruit and seafood, most knights wear cool armor, Cowboys aren't all idiots and are more so bounty hunters than herdsmen. Unless it contributed to your fantasy, the grim reality can be left out.

I'm asking two questions:

One, which would you pick, and why?

Two, help me prove to my friends that the right answer is pirate.

Hello! I'm working on a project that I'll need done for a party in pretty short order, and I'm struggling to get the gradient from foreground to transparent working. One side of the gradient is set to one hundred percent opacity, and the other side is zero, but it still only fades out to black. Does it have anything to do with whether or not the layers are rasterized? Do you know the solution?

PLEASE HELP!

I want to begin this by saying I'm a student about to graduate from film school, and I'm already feeling pressure from others (specifically studio executives) to compromise artistic vision for profits. I also believe that the preferred end goal for any artist is to find a way for your work to be enjoyed by others while also having absolute creative freedom. The journey to that point, while being crushed under pressure to create something outside your vision, is something that I believe Kevin's journey as a character is meant to represent.

In the first stage of Kevin's journey, he is actually in a place of relative creative freedom. He's drawing a mildly successful comic with his assistant Chuck, and is free to do as he pleases. This freedom, however, isn't born from a true state of artistic liberty, but of naivety. He hasn't yet had to bear the weight of what the world will try to do with his art, and when he does, he'll be crushed by it.

In the second stage, he goes to Japan, experiences great hardship (Charlie and Shizuchan's deaths), and comes back to see that a larger studio, Culkin Enterprises, has bastardized the work he left behind. After a short struggle, he returns to the small town in Texas where he made one of his first successful comics, and tries to draw again. There, he is visited by the bat constantly telling him what to draw, and Kevin decides to give up. He's been beaten down by the ways of the world, executives ruining his art, and a cruel master commanding what he may and may not draw. This represents the part of an artist's journey where they realize just how hard it is to live as a true creative. I think at this stage, the bat himself also represents corporate oversight, constantly commanding you to draw this or that. As a professional mangaka himself, Urasawa would be unfortunately familiar with these struggles. I've seen many friends give up on their art entirely at this stage.

In the third stage, Kevin is encouraged by Smith to keep drawing, and decides to accept that this is simply how the world is, and draw what the bat commands. This is the stage at which you as an artist start to settle. You compromise artistic integrity and what you want as an artist in exchange for work to do, and money to make. This is the stage at which Kevin becomes a much more flat and somber person, not quite as morose as he was in stage two, but not as happy as he was in stage one.

In the fourth stage, Kevin has had enough. He sees the ways of the world for an artist, and has even conformed to them, drawing whatever it is the bat asks of him. With his friend's lives on the line, as well as his own, he finally decides enough is enough. He tells the bat he's done listening to him, and will draw what he wants to draw. After all, he is a mangaka. Shortly after, Kevin is shot. This represents the stage in an artist's life where they have lost their naivity, and decide to go back to a place of creative freedom, but this time with knowledge of the consequences, and an acceptance of dealing with them. Kevin, for the short time before he is shot, is happy. He has a newfound sense of purpose and pride in his work. Unfortunately, however, save for a select few successful and lucky people, trying to operate in industry with total creative freedom comes with consequences.

In the fifth and final stage of Kevin's character development, he has found total creative freedom, and a group of people to appreciate his art in the form of the dark bat cult. He sits in his cave and draws whatever he wishes with joy and bliss. He understands and has been through the consequences of living this way, and has used them as a crucible to make himself and his art better. He has lost his arms, any chance at fame, and even most of life's comforts, but he doesn't care because he has total creative freedom and people who appreciate his work. This is meant to show that, at the end of the day, artists crave freedom to create as they please without interference into their vision. It's the ultimate place of fulfillment for an artist, and although it took a struggle and left Kevin in many ways broken, he's simply happy to be there drawing his masterpiece.
