HOT activated as of yesterday, 1 TM project using Pre Event Vantor imagery in San Jose del Palamar has been completed.

🌎 Global Disaster Activity — August 2–8, 2026

I’m starting a weekly disaster-mapping roundup for OSMEmergency, looking at significant events around the world and potential opportunities for OpenStreetMap/humanitarian mapping.

🌍 This week’s highlights

🌎 Earthquakes
Several M5+ earthquakes occurred across the Pacific region, including events in the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Kermadec region.

🌊 Flooding
Flooding was reported across parts of Asia, Africa, and the United States, including Pakistan, Mongolia, India, Sri Lanka, Cameroon, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Myanmar, and the U.S.

🌀 Tropical Cyclones
Several systems were active in the Western Pacific, including DOLPHIN-26 and CHAN-HOM-26.

🔥 Wildfires
Significant wildfire activity was recorded in Portugal, Angola, Greece, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

🌋 Volcanic Activity
Fuego in Guatemala remained an area of volcanic activity.

🌾 Drought
Ongoing drought conditions continued across portions of Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the United States.

🗺️ Why I’m tracking this

The goal of OSMEmergency is to connect disaster information with OpenStreetMap and GIS.
When disasters occur, useful mapping projects can include:

• Mapping damaged buildings
• Updating roads and bridges
• Mapping shelters and emergency facilities
• Identifying isolated communities
• Mapping wildfire or flood impacts
• Supporting HOT humanitarian mapping projects
• Using satellite imagery to document changes

I’m planning to make these weekly global disaster dashboards and use them to identify areas where mapping could actually help.

The goal is to create a place where people interested in OpenStreetMap, GIS, disaster mapping, severe weather, emergency preparedness, and open-source emergency information can connect and collaborate.

Hello everyone,

Wanted to see if there were any fellow Druids in Alabama, particularly the Southeast area of the state.

I’ve recently founded Wiregrass Protogrove, an RDNA protogrove based in the Dothan/Wiregrass region. At the moment, I’m the only member, but I’m hoping to slowly build a welcoming local community.

Our vision is to be a nature-centered fellowship inspired by the RDNA’s Two Basic Tenets. While we’ll be practicing within the RDNA tradition, I hope to create a community that’s welcoming to people from a variety of spiritual and philosophical backgrounds who share a respect for nature.

Some of the things I hope we’ll do include:

- Seasonal observances
- Nature walks
- Conservation and stewardship
- Learning about local ecology and wildlife
- Fellowship and discussion

If you’re in Alabama (or nearby in the Florida Panhandle or southwest Georgia), I’d love to hear from you. Even if you’re already part of another Druid tradition, I’d enjoy connecting with other local practitioners.
