Alpine vs. Moosehead
Same beer or different beers? Let’s finally hash it out.

Through a series of improbable events, some of the Lysol from the wipes ended up oozing into the charging port of my (cheap) HP laptop while on and plugged in. (Standard barrel connector.). I noticed this when I heard a sizzling sound. Sound continued when unplugged, and I immediately powered down. My assumption was that I was listening to something shorting, and that my system is now likely toast. Next steps? My main concern is not causing a battery or electrical fire, but I’d at least like to pull the data off this machine.
I have a wool blanket I’d like to turn into a vest. If someone came to you and asked you to do this, what would you charge?
I’ve never had the opportunity to try Nigerian food, but I’d like to! What’s a good vegetarian dish you’d suggest? (Preferably on the spicy side.)
Are there any decent dry cleaners on the north side, or do I have to bite the bullet and go across the river?
I know both Norge and Paragon have wash and fold laundry service — anyone used them? And is there anyone else in town that offers it, particularly on the north side?
I admit that I’m squeamish about cleanliness (I have immune problems, so it’s not entirely unfounded). I usually wipe down the washer gasket with a Lysol wipe after loading so that clean laundry isn’t touching a dirty gasket when being taken out. I’ve been thinking of using a wash and fold service lately as I’ve been ill quite a bit lately and having trouble keeping up with things, but I’m curious what experiences other people have had with how clean their stuff comes back.
They look perfect for the winter, but the Canadian dollar is really weak right now, so they’re out of my price range.
I really do love how often Petro’s comes out with new things — any chance we could get a preview of possible new releases?
Aside from the thick hoodie/fleece, which have a linen component, are all the other wool products 100% wool? Or is it wool blended with another fiber?
I’m looking for an ebike to handle my work commute (two days/week). It won’t be used for anything else — just for getting to work without ending up too sweaty. 10km commute each way, mostly flat but with one fairly steep hill. I’m a heavyweight (6’3”, 260 lbs). Ride is entirely on paved trails. Suggestions for the cheapest viable option that a) will last a few years minimum, b) won’t cause battery fires, c) will handle a rainy climate, and d) is available in Canada? Thanks all.
Edit to add: A folding bike would be especially convenient, but at my size, not sure that’s really an option.
Bun is ill, needs critical care. Historically I only get about 10% into her because she’s so ferociously strong, even when sick. Tips on doing this solo?
Anyone know of any cabinetmaking businesses hiring? Looking to break in to the job (ideally an apprenticeship, but not picky). Part time hours fine. Thanks everyone.
I’m looking for aspirin in one of those two formats to stock a bicycle first aid kit, rather than hauling around a bottle. (I realize I could just put some in a container, but that doesn’t protect them from degradation due to humidity etc.). I know this exists, but I’ll be damned if I can find somewhere in Canada to order from. Help a guy out?
I tried this on r/AcademicBiblical, but no luck. Blame this post on having read The Name of the Rose too many times.
The episode of Jesus cursing the fig tree seems to always be taken seriously. Is there any reason it couldn’t instead be read as an example of humour?
If there’s anyone out there with a wide wingspan like me, have you found the XL is long enough in the arms?
I have a couple of wool blankets that need a wash, and the only detergents I have on hand are Tide Hygienic Clean and some Tide Free & Gentle pods (Canadian version, if relevant). Are the F&G pods okay for wool?
The context here is that the detergent dispenser on my front-loader washer/dryer combo is a bit wonky, so I’ve been using pods — I don’t know if I can add liquid detergent directly to the drum, otherwise I’d use Woolite.
G&M, Toronto Star, etc. Chapters used to but don’t seem to any more.
I bought a pair of Saucony Cohesion 16s on sale in fall 2023. Ended up out of action for health reasons, and I’m just pulling out the box now. But I’ve seen posts where some of the materials in people’s older shoes have basically crumbled after prolonged storage. I’d rather not be out and about and have that happen to me — is there a way to tell whether these have degraded, or a rule of thumb on how long a pair of shoes can sit around before they degrade?
