Heartened and disheartened by Canada Day in Lethbridge
Heartening: seeing hundreds of immigrants at Henderson Lake Park dressed up in Canada gear and carrying flags, enjoying themselves.
Disheartening: seeing a conservatives MP and a UCP MLA and cabinet minister who actively want to reduce immigrant and refugee rights and visibly targeted them as “other” than the rest of Canadians, each had a booth set up beside each other. One was giving away free popcorn, the other free cotton candy. Many, many immigrant families waited in line for it. It was all I could do not to sidle up the said politicians and start loudly asking them questions about it while they handed out their goodies.
