Could somebody please post some photos of how it looks like in a bucket of doom, when identifying mosquito eggs and dead mosquito larvae due to the dunks/mosquito pellets?

We have tried various setups now for last 10 days or so, but don't think we have had much luck with it so far...

Think we wanted to overcompensate and made it too complex by doing multiple strategies in the same bucket. Next, think we will try and running them clean one by one instead to figure out what may bring best harvest yield. 😄

Why do we not see 'the bucket of doom' mixed in with other anti-mosquito measures at the same time?

Frequent promoted DIY ways to combat mosquitos are:

  • Make a bucket of water and add aka bacillus thuringiensis that kills the mosquito larvae coming out of their eggs, so they get no off-springs...
  • Make a bucket of water and add some sulfo soap, so the mosquito drowns in it, when it lands to lay their eggs...
  • The above, but with a twist: Make a bucket of water, mixed in with sugar and yeast to generate CO2 to lure the mosquitos in, with soap so they drown when landing on the water surface.

But why are we not seeing any advice/YouTube videos of folks trying to combine all the above at same time in the same single bucket?

Any chemical/science reason why they could not work at the same time and be more versatile to lure mosquitos in, no matter if they come to lay their eggs or to find blood to suck?

So one single bucket, with sugar and yeast to generate CO2, with some fungicide/bacteria (the mosquito dunk type) to kill the mosquito larvae and then also some soap/sulfo so the mosquitos drown upon trying to land in the bucket.

Would this triple-whammy not be the ultimate bucket of doom?
If not, please provide guidance.

Seems like the Mod Insights reports about our sub's performance stats have been changed again and now we are missing all the long-term summaries?

Why can the Sub's Insights Reports not just be made to work as intended and then please leave them alone when done?

It is now more than 2 years we have had incomplete reports available, which can otherwise be very helpful to measure if changes we do on our sub's are having a positive effect or not.

Aka to finetune welcome messages and the overall rules to getting more members to join and grow the sub/community and observe the variation of number of new posts and comments/interactions they spawn over time.

How many new members we are gaining each month over the last full year, month by month.

Insights about which posts are generating the most views etc.

So many stats and insights we are still missing, which could enable us to become even more successful with the subs we MOD.

Can we learn anything from Disneyland that could be applied around our own house to keeping it mosquito free?

Seen a lot of advertisements and positive reviews that kids do not get mosquito bites when in their parks. This no matter those parks are placed in swampy/wet typical mosquito wonderlands, like Florida and Paris Val-de-Marne areas... Seen some of the measures that Disney apparently employ, to controlling their mosquito population and keeping it down. What of this if any, could we employ at home?

Like what about the plants we have in our garden, do they really matter a lot or just a fraction of what is going on with mosquito population really? Aka, some are told to be perfect egg laying nests down in their leave bases for mosquitos, while others are told to be of a fragrant that mosquitos hate and keeping them away?

How about roof tiles/gutters where there are risk of bit of stagnant water after rainfall? How much water is too much water really?

What about a swimming pool, myth and not true that mosquitos can use drop areas here for eggs/larvae if the chlorine level is otherwise up where it should be and circulation decently maintained?

So much 'info' online, its hard to dissect at times what is true and what is BS.

Do the DynaTraps really work?

We just started getting flooded with adverts about those killer lamppost from DynaTrap here in local country. Probably in connection with the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes Albopictus) has started to arrive/multiply real fast and with it, some nasty diseases as well for the unlucky victims of it.

Anyway, hate all mosquitos no matter the type and we also have some of the children in our family that gets real nasty big itching and blowing blisters / wounds from all the mosquito bites they may be exposed to.

So looking for any and all remedies out there that truly may help. Some of the YouTube videos showing use of the DynaTrap laps appear very convincing, as they also document the results after one or more days of use.

But have some questions related to DynaTrap that some of you may know the answer to please:

  1. Does it matter what lamp size we get? As long as the UV light bulb is bright and relative new, they appear all to use same power/light bulb size or what? Aka, we can just empty the capture bucket more often, in case it quickly fills up in a smaller lap model?
  2. Are there some models where DynaTrap sells spareparts to, and others not? So aka to fix when aka the UV light bulb needs changing as the UV strengths wears out? Or what about the electric propeller and engine? So we do not have the full expense to keeping them running 24/7.
  3. What DynaTrap lamp models actually have a LED UV light and not the fluorescent type? I understand that the fluorescent UV light bulb flares out after 4-5 months of use, while guess the LED type will be much longer functioning. So both for costs and efficiency, guess the LED type version is preferred?
  4. Some appear to swear to the use also of the pheromone, but are they really needed? Other YouTubers appear still to catch plenty of mosquitos without the use of them in the lamp/trap. So does it really matter a lot or not really? Its certainly adding to the run-cost of such lamps if having 4-6 lamps in the garden of them.

Thanks for any help / insights you can provide to the questions above, so we can identify what DynaTrap lamp would be ideal to getting hold of. OK to buying more of them to cover all around our property, when having tested the first one first. But better we make sure also the first model is then worthwhile the investment.

Do Tapo 4k cameras and H500 hub have sufficient quality and reliability to serve as home security camera system, when it really matters?

For a standard family house, garage and garden area, placed on a rectangular area of aka 800-1000 m2 land (8,800-11,000 ft2). Or is it required to go up a notch in cost and go with some more heavy duty kind of products/brands instead?

Especially the opportunity to getting such a system with no requirement for any ongoing subscription is very welcome, but guess others also can do similar or better?

What are the key functions you miss in the current app?

WellDoc has been chosen as app development partner for Senseonics, but what are the key functions we absolutely want to see them enable for the app and missing today?

Many of us have gone through years of struggle with the poor native apps we got from Dexcom, Medtronic and Abbott and their sensors. Often going with 3rd party apps instead to really getting what we want/need. So hope we will see more rich and relevant functionality from Senseonics for the use with our Eversense sensors.

Police removed top diabetes researchers from the American Diabetes Association annual conference for speaking out against the Trump administrations cuts to the NIH

For anyone who thinks that diabetes research isn't being affected by the ongoing, systematic destruction of the NIH and US biomedical research, please watch the video attached. All these scientists did was write an editorial article condemning the actions that the NIH has been taking against the institution of biomedical research. For that, forced removal from the conference. These are some of the top diabetes researchers in the world, at one of the highest regarded conferences in the world. Scientific discourse, including disagreement, is foundational to progress, both at the scientific and societal levels. It's a constitutionally protected right. This is fascist authoritarianism. That's not hyperbole. It's not an exaggeration. This affects every single one of us.

Dexcom posted a good customer advisory that is applicable also to Libre users

Among others, this good infographic, which also explains what is going on for sensor users. These two biological responses (inflammation and then encapsulation) explain why sensors in the lab can last much longer, with exceptionally high accuracy, compared to sensors on the body of a person in the real world. And why some sensor users may have a different experience than other users do.

How old and you think its still OK to buy a second-hand TechnoGym machine with electronics?

Thinking about machines like stationary bike, stair climber, running belt etc, where there is a built in electronic display, with buttons and various programs to support/enable the machines functionality. But for how many years do such equipment typically last and what about if needing a repair/spareparts of those electronics/sensors etc to keeping it working?

Can any of the LXT battery powered brush cutters be used with an alternative hard blade to clear more rough plants?

Think it has only a 10mm diameter spindle shaft. So does not look like many alternatives can fit being mounted on it instead of its standard nylon thread spindle head?

Hope some have some insights and if possible and it can take the extra load, what brands/models of such hard blades or if some kind of adaptor kit may be needed for it to work?

Epoxy, Polyurea or Polyaspartic: Which is the BEST concrete garage floor coating?

Having a 880 Ft2 (80m2) garage with raw but smooth concrete floor we want to freshen up in a lighter color and also make easier to clean going forward.

But what is easiest for 'amateurs' to use for getting a professional and durable result?

And if using two-component primer and top-coats, is it possible to cut it up into more sub-projects, so we do not need to coat the entire full floor in one go? But like making each layer in maybe 2-3 goes instead.

We also have plenty of time for it to harden up between layers and putting our stored back in. Aka we have also alternative space to store stuff, so in no rush to do it all in aka 24h turnaround. :o)

So what solution/compounds would you suggest we go for please?
And what about the flakes? More is better to get a homogeneous color/flaky result? And the excess of flakes can just be brushed/wiped off before pouring on the final top coat?

Could a solar powered Tapo camera work as a birdbox nest camera?

Instead of paying excessive amounts for a 'bespoke noname camera' you get in a bundle deal with a bird nest, would any of the standard 3k or 4k solar powered Tapo cameras be able to do the same or better please? A critical success factor will of course be if the Tapo camera can indeed focus on something just a few inches away inside the nest box.

Don't know if somebody here in the group please could answer to that or maybe make a quick test on how close up one of their Tapo solar powered cameras can focus? Not any specs typically listed anywhere, as for security functions, its often more a question about how far awy a distance it can still capture the images well. :o)

If able to use a std security camera kit like those from Tapo would bring many benefits versus those you can get via special wildlife/nature product sellers. Where you are often blocked to staying with their special apps and recording options. While if using Tapo, the live feed and recordings could be forwarded to any device you want on your home network. 👍

PS: Some of the birdbox nest kits you can buy online look to sell them with something that looks very much like the Arlo Ultra2 compact cameras, though they have no name/labels on them. Reason why I wondered if maybe the Tapo could be set up for something like this, or maybe the lens specs needs to be really special for this to work at all?

How would you rate the different DELL laptop series against each other?

If priority is performance and build quality?

The individual specs of which CPU, size of RAM, SSD etc of course has also big impact, but if setting these 'all equal', how would you then rate the laptop series against each other? And is there really a base for having so many variants or will we see some being pulled from market in coming years?

Like the legacy names like Inspiron, Latitude, and Precision are all phased out I guess?

So what about the following and how do they stack up?

  • XPS (or is this actually already obsolete?)
  • Dell Pro
  • Dell Pro Essential
  • Dell Pro Max
  • Dell Pro Precision
  • Dell Pro Education
  • Alienware

I know his income has dropped off a cliff and he has also spent considerable amounts on recovery treatments from the best folks and places in this world.

But it has just been 7 months since he ruptured his Achilles. Doesn't this sound like just way too early to start playing the tour again? Thought exactly that starting out with substantial pull on it too early would risk it to become wobbly for life and his explosive physical playstyle appears much reliant on that?

Not to mention the worry about a repeat rupture... 😬

His team also talks about this Hamburg tournament is perfect as prepping for his Grand Slam-comeback for the French Open. That is 24th May till 7th June. Fingers crossed they are all good and we will see him back in shape.

Like 5-6 cameras around the perimeter to cover all entry points with minimum 2 overlaying cameras covering each other, live central storage of the video material.

The newer solar powered WiFi enabled cameras look very handy to set up with minimum trouble with having to pull cables all around. We have ability for UPS supply to keep our central wifi and server system running for a few hours even if electricity is cut, so if the cameras otherwise keeps transmitting, it should work no matter.

But is their video quality sufficient? Do they provide sufficient clarity also at night time? Does it help to set up additional IR light projectors to support them more?

I am enticed by the prospects of getting the functionality without the obligation for ongoing presciptions to making it work. We have local security company on call and also neighborhood that reacts quickly if any alarms go off, which is all set in the house already. So main thing is for the video recording of the surroundings and the culprits if any comes onto property uninvited.
