What do I need to know about the Avid S6L 24C?
Using one of these at a show coming up. Lots of exp on Yamaha, Rivage is my daily driver. What is weird or different about this console that I should be aware of? Anything that isn't intuitive that I might have trouble figuring out on the fly? I downloaded the offline editor to start tinkering around but I seek the advice of seasoned professionals.
Context is a modern rock band, probably about 48 inputs. I'd love to be able to do parallel comp for drums, reverb and delay groups for vocals, master bus comp, and sidechain my drum gates to triggers on a separate input.
Any help is appreciated!
Using Dante as a guest engineer?
I run FOH for a band. I also make the Ableton sets and use backing tracks. When I use my own system I use DVS and easily route as many tracks from Ableton as I want to the console. I never have an issue because I do everything Audinate tells you to do in the certification courses.
Every time we travel and use someone else's rig there are issues. There are dropouts, they don't have multicast set up, they can't answer the question "is EEE turned off?", etc.
We have a festival coming up next month. It's a good size festival, probably 10k crowd. I'd like to ask them to use Dante if they have it so I can break out the tracks as I usually do, but I don't know what level of competency/reliability to expect.
How common is it that a pro sound company is knowledgeable in setting up a Dante network? I would think it's commonplace by now but I keep running into this.
I don't mean to sound elitist, I'm ok with using an interface and just doing 4 tracks if I have to. I'd rather do that than deal with the frustration of using a network that's not setup properly.
Good thing you got four years of practice in while you were waiting.
