Has anyone successfully managed to get a pet approved by their landlord recently?

I’m thinking about finally asking my landlord if I can get a cat. In the past they’ve always had a pretty strict “no pets” rule, but with the rules changing this month around blanket bans, I know landlords aren’t really supposed to just refuse automatically anymore without a proper reason. Has anyone actually tried submitting a formal pet request since the new rules kicked in? How did your landlord take it? Did they ask for extra insurance or additional conditions, or was it a fairly smooth process?

Wast Water has to be one of the most atmospheric spots in the Lakes.

Took this a while back during a clear spell. The water was so still you could see right through to the lake bed near the edge, and the reflection on the screes was stunning. I know it’s a bit more of a trek to get out to the western side of the county than places like Windermere or Keswick, but the valley is unmatched. Is this anyone else’s absolute favorite Cumbrian lake?

WMAS finishing its first fully “in-house” paramedic degree cohort feels like a pretty big shift honestly

Just saw that WMAS has officially finished training its first cohort on the internally delivered degree programme with Derby Uni. Honestly having your lectures, placements and operational mentoring all linked through the same academy/team sounds like it could really help bridge the gap between classroom learning and frontline work. But I’m interested what people actually think about this model long term, should more trusts move towards these internal pathways, or is it healthier keeping universities and trusts more separate?

I’m convinced Viola Hong Kong is the best colour Ferrari has ever made

The yellow details on this 488 Pista look so good with the purple. Definitely one of the nicest Ferrari specs I’ve seen in a while.

Reunited with SECAmb crew and the rarity of eclampsia calls

Just read about this crew in Kent being reunited with a patient they treated for an eclamptic seizure. 1 in 3,000 pregnancies is a proper "once-in-a-career" call for most of us. For the veterans here, what’s the rarest clinical presentation you’ve actually had to manage on a blue-light call?

Where is the best place in Cumbria for actually unique, handmade gifts?

I’m looking for some proper independent spots that aren't just the usual touristy souvenirs. I’ve heard good things about Yew Tree Barn and the galleries in Ambleside, but are there any rare artisan shops or workshops I should check out? Ideally looking for places where you can actually see things being made, or at least smaller independent makers. Any favorites in North or West Cumbria specifically?

Massive congrats to Wolves Women on the WSL 2 promotion!

Just wanted to give a massive shout-out to the Women’s team for securing promotion to WSL 2. After years of coming so close, seeing Anna Morphet finally lift that trophy and get the club into the professional game is a massive moment for the Old Gold. Does anyone know if the club is planning to move more of their home games to Molineux next season now that they’ve stepped up a level? It would be brilliant to see them get even more support now that they're in the big leagues.

A year since my first visit to Bridge House, some things never change!

I took this shot around this time last year, and seeing it again today reminds me why it’s the most sketched building in the Lakes. It’s crazy to think a family of eight once lived in those two tiny rooms. When’s the best quieter time to visit before the summer crowds properly arrive?

I’ve been looking at the traditional Cumberland sausage coils and they seem a lot different from normal supermarket sausages. People always mention the chunky texture and strong pepper flavour, but I’m not sure if it’s amazing or just something you get used to. Also feels a bit wrong to just throw it in a roll with ketchup 😅 Any recommendations for a good local butcher that does a proper one?

Been looking at social tariffs to cut costs, most seem to be £10–£24/month with fixed pricing. Speeds are usually around 30 Mbps+, which should be fine for HD streaming. For anyone using one, how does it hold up with multiple people online at once? Or is it worth paying more for a standard plan?

I took this about two years ago when I was up in Cumbria for my cousin’s wedding. We had a bit of spare time before the ceremony and ended up here, such a peaceful spot. Definitely one of my favourite memories from the Lakes. Has anyone been around here recently?

I’ve been looking into Level 7 Management apprenticeships for the next intake, but I’ve just seen the new 2026 rules about the government pulling funding for anyone over 22. It seems like a massive hurdle for anyone trying to upskill a few years into their career. Has anyone found a way around this, or are we basically forced to stick to Level 6 now? I'm curious if any employers are still funding these through other routes or if Level 7s are becoming less common for those a few years into their career.

I’ve been reading through the new standards the DfE put out recently. While they look okay on paper, I’m stressing a bit about the move to a 2-year induction. I feel like the ASYE is already a lot of pressure as it is, is an extra year of "standards" actually going to mean more support, or is it just going to be another two years of ticking boxes and portfolio work?
