Help me understand pet friendly!

How can I find what we are looking for without wasting anyone's time and patience? I have spent so much time looking at listings that have said pets welcome, but gave no specifics on fees, or limits.

We just want a cabin, on water, maybe with some Kayaks that will accept our dogs. We leash, harness, crate, all of the above we even have a travel invisible fence if needed.

I know hosts get annoyed with constant messages about thier pet policies and then not getting a booking. I don't want to do that obviously. How can we filter out the "one pet, 20 lbs only" listings?

Does truth ever change things?

We have an 18yo adopted daughter that we have been alienated from by a male church leader. He built a relationship with her behind our back when she was a teen. Telling her that she was only safe with him, showing her his gun collection and telling her we were abusive because we told her "no". She became obsessed with him. She left at 17 and now lives with him. She does have alot of mental health issues due to early trauma and neglect before the adoption.

Recently she was in a car accident that we were not told about, she posted on Facebook, and grandma told us. She had been no contact, but she texted us after we tried to get the person who was with her in the accident to confirm she was safe. She was rude, but atleast she opened the door.

Looking at her FB she recently also posted a "testimony". But instead it was just a huge fabrication about how abusive we were to her. She has lied about everything in the past, so I wasn't surprised but it's just getting bigger and more ridiculous. Some people at our current church are responding. I know it's her mask from being groomed by the people she lives with.

I got it in my head to rewrite her "story" from our parents perspective, keeping it positive and possibly sending it to her. I don't really care what other people on social media think, and I know it probably won't change anything but this is the foundation of her mental health.

Has anyone has a similar experience that ever went well?

Vacation time

When we lived in the same town as my in laws, they were very hot and cold. Either they dropped in whenever they wanted (while making judgmental and degrading comments) or we didn't see them for months. That was only a problem because we had 4 young special needs children and we could have used some support from them, but we pretty much were on our own. For an example, when our adopted son was in a therapeutic group home, they broke every boundary (even the group home's) and ignored the other kids.

Ten years ago we moved across country to be near my family. Now we see them one week every 2 years. But it always has to take the place of vacation time for our family, and we have to entertain them and work everything around their schedule. MIL has fibromyalsia and wants to take a nap every afternoon. I am always stressed but as it's for my kids I deal with it.

My husband has to bid his vacation time for the year. We had planned on a road trip this fall to see them/our old town, because our kids are adults and requested to see how it's changed from their memories of growing up. Due to some volatility in my husband's job we just decided to postpone until Spring or Summer of next year. (They actually expected the 4 of us to sleep in their camper parked on the street in front of their house, instead of getting a hotel or vrbo.)

Immediately the in laws are buying plane tickets to come see us, without asking. It's like they need to check of a box on their to do list to prove they are grandparents. They only stay in touch with one of our kids because he calls them multiple times a week. No other effort except birthday and holiday checks.

We really need a real, relaxing vacation, which we were planning locally. Do we invite them into that or plan a whole week around them?

For fun- what other "emergency funds" do you have?

Just for fun!

A 6 month emergency fund is very important, but I want to know what other "emergency" type funds or collections you keep, non cash?

What will you never run out of if there's a shortage? Freezers of meat? Long term dry food storage? Specifically if there's a job loss or emergency, what have you stocked up on? I know this has increased after the pandemic and it makes me curious because we're all different on what is truly valuable to us.

For my husband it's Yeti cups and waterbottles, lol! If they ever go out of business, we are set for life!

Vacation or not?

I am all in my head, so please give me what you would do in our situation.

We(47/49) are in BS6, 65K left on the house. No kids in college, fully investing but a little behind in my opinion(400K). We have 2 adult (21/23) autistic sons that live with us, but they each have part time jobs, so not completely dependent on us, but also may be here long- term. My income is 60K no benefits, his is 100K, plus benefits (insurance, 401K match, etc). Emergency fund is close to 12 months of expenses.

Husband's job that he has had for 20 years is in transition. He knows it will be 6 months or more before the transition happens, and we are expecting he stays because he has seniority, but there's always a possibility that it goes south. I know he is smart and capable of any job, but he has lower self esteem. We live rural, but he commutes in for work currently. He doesn't think he can find another job that pays as well as his. I think he can, so my stress is less than his.

We have a road trip vacation planned to Montana to see family. We used to live there but haven't been back for 10 years. We do have family that comes to see us every year or 2. At this point I don't really want to go. It's a ton of work for me, my kids will miss out on work for 2+ weeks. I want to pay off the house. We have no one to watch our dogs, just a lot of little reasons. It's really our boys that want to go back and see how everything has changed where they grew up.

I think if we postpone a year, we will know where the job stands. But if he looses the job he also looses 5 weeks of paid vacation time per year.

What would you do?

What type of sitter do we need?

We have always taken our dogs on vacation with us, so this will be the first time leaving them at home. We have 4, and our old guy just doesn't move well enough to road trip with us. I am hoping to find a sitter near by, but am confused with all the options, and what our dogs truly need. I don't thing we need a house sitter overnight, but definitely at least 3 drop ins per day, with one being longer.

We are hoping to have a dog door installed by the time we leave but not sure if that's a great choice with being on a busy corner (the backyard is completely fenced, just had neighbors complain about barking before).

One of our dogs is a newer rescue, we have had him about 6 months, and he is very friendly, but not sure how he will do with a new person for 2 weeks.

We also feed raw, not sure how to make that easier for a sitter. We will want them to check on chickens and rabbit ever couple of days as well, but they could be set up to be self sustained.

Please give me your best tips, websites, etc since this is all new.

Windshield coverage

Where we live, it's chip seal season, so of course our Subaru just got a nasty chip with one crack from it. Because of the safety camera system, it will be over $1400 to replace. I thought we had a rider on our insurance, but we don't and we set the deductible crazy high. So are there any options?

anyone else still missing prepaid credit?

We have been on USCellular prepaid for years, and forced to switch to T mobile in May. We still do not have our credits ( 4 lines, total of $600) moved to T mobile. They can't even see it. And us cellular can't transfer it on their end because they don't have access to t mobile software, so what the heck am I supposed to do? I have been to all the customer service departments and still nothing. The local store told me they don't have anyone "qualified" to handle it. Even though they were the ones to tell me it would magically appear in 1-2 months.

update: spent 2 hours on the phone to customer service, they kept switching me back and forth to between tmobile and uscellular. Evidently they can't even see each other's systems. Uscellular escalated the issue, but I have no faith anything will happen. We also had a fifth line that was canceled before the merger that we also were never refunded on.

New rescue and Pack dynamics

If there's a better spot for this question let me know.

We adopted a 2 year old male red heeler mix from the humane society that we volunteer at in February. We spent alot of time to be sure his temperament would be a good fit for our family. We did multiple visits with all 4 dogs together.

We did all the slow introductions at home, separate spaces, etc. After a month they were together more (but always supervised) and a dog fight with him and our 10 year old husky mix happened. No real damage, but shifted dynamics a bit. It happened once more, a few weeks later, again just scratches but super stressful to break up.

Each time we kenneled them, muzzled, and no unsupervised time. Working slowly to get the pack established again.

Months went by and he start a fight with our "beta" 6 year old male lab mix. Again just some scratches, but will this ever stop? What are we doing wrong?

Other than these 3 times he has just "snapped", he is a happy, loving dog. Cuddles, loves walk and car rides, etc. And yes, he has a big fenced in yard and enrichment activities as I know his energy needs are higher.

Is this the app or phone virus?

I woke up to constant dinging while a hundred spam " verification codes" for different apps were sent via sms. Is this a hack of my Google messages or a phone virus? How do I proceed?

Sell the car?

In March we replaced my van that needed a new head gasket and transmission. We went through Carvana, actually had a good experience, but as we were checking out online, my husband suggested we do financing since Carvana is a gamble. We agreed before hand that it would be paid off after we were SURE we were keeping the car. Now he won't let me pay it off and we have had some huge fights. We only have the mortgage besides the car loan, but his work is not stable in his eyes.

He keeps making excuses to push it off- we have a repair on the house or something else. Our money market is plenty to handle all of that. In fact we have enough to pay off the house, which you think would ease his job stress. I also have a comparable income, but all the benefits/ retirement is with his job.

I hate the fights and it's not worth it. I just want to sell the stupid thing. We have a beater car that I could drive but I put on alot of miles with 2 special needs children. How do we break this log jam?

What do you outsource?

We are nearing BS7 in the next 2 years and have been frugal, do it yourself-ers throughout our 20 years of marriage. We recently hired our fence construction and it was glorious compared to doing it ourselves. But it got me thinking...

As you moved from gazelle intense to living like no one else, what did you outsource that gave you the most benefit? Yard work, house cleaning, shopping?

Frustrated by cgm results

I know I should be happy, but I was hoping for more information to help me make changes, instead of just a couple of small tweaks.

The good news is I am less insulin resistant than I thought. The few spikes (140 and under)I had came right back down. I stay around 80-100 all day eating how I normally do (low carb). My CMI was 5.6 for 14 days, and that was testing carbs.

The changes will be no carbs after 3pm, and if I eat any it needs to be in the morning with fat & protein. I was hoping exercise would affect my numbers more, but it did not. I still want to be more consistent.

Now a couple of questions:

Dawn effect- what has helped to lower it? And do you sleep better or worse with low night numbers? What is a goal number when you go to sleep at night?

What type of exercise has helped you the most?

Is it worth doing another 15 days to sort our exercise, ACV, dawn effect? I feel like i am more lacks in what I eat because I can write if off as a "test".
