The OA

Started this a few days ago. Just finished the 3rd episode. I’m intrigued and a little into it. I just don’t feel fully vested. It fits my personality and watching style but is it slow? And most importantly does it end or leave me hanging?

Aging and taking care of aging parents

I just turned 63. I lost my mom 11 years ago very suddenly. I lost my younger brother 4 years ago very tragically and unexpected. My dad is doing as well as a 91 yr old dude can do. It’s just me left to be his support. Good news is he does not need daily care and like I said doing pretty darn good. I don’t think this was in the life manual as how to handle taking care of your parents. I have a surgery scheduled in two days and I’m scared. I do not expect anything to go sideways and if it did my husband would step up for my dad. The last time I had a very major procedure was over 13 years ago and none of these insane what’s going to happen to my dad if something bad happens to me were even anywhere near my mindset. This is a new twist. I totally respect anyone in my situation and even more so if you are doing the caregiving both to your children and your parents. I consider you folks rock stars. Any advice, thoughts or coping tips would be welcome. And the reason I’m having this procedure is because “I’m putting my own oxygen mask on first “

I’m relatively new to Reddit and have totally latched on to all the TV and movie recommendations subs. I was moving toward some type of tracker and then following Reddit I u/s the TV Time app is about to be no longer an option. For someone NEW to tracking for both TV and movies what is the next best choice?

I did not like Project Hail Mary

All the hype and I was excited to watch this movie. Here’s what I now know; any movies like this one or Gravity, Moon, The Martian (this was the best of the bunch) even Passengers and 2001. I just don’t care for the premise. It does give skilled actors a chance to wow us with their acting. But yes I’m going to say it. I’m bored about 1 hour into them. Sorry in advance for all the disagreement.

What show did you really like but it hung around just a little too long?

So for me, I really liked Supernatural but maybe just 1 season too long. Also I am a huge fan of Criminal Minds but I feel like the Evolution series is trying too hard.

Are reviews your guide?

Movie reviews. I always seem to have an opposite opinion from the reviews. I usually don’t like or haven’t seen any Oscar nominated films in the last 10 years. I love some of the classic Oscar romance films from the 40s and 50s Now I seem to trust Rotten Tomatoes more than any high profile reviewer. Thoughts?

I just started Dept Q

I just started watching Dept Q per many recommendations. I feel like it is starting very slowly. Am I going to keep watching and get more engaged or am I stopping now?

Mis-Quotes that have become the norm

So “Play it again, Sam” is a misquote from Casablanca. What are some other misquotes which have become used so much that everyone thinks it’s correct?

Just received a $400 TECO bill!

I live outside of the Tampa area. The house is 20 years old, 2600 sq ft with two relatively new systems (less than 5 years old). I keep the house at 78 during the summer months. This is just getting even more outrageous. Did I mention 78? I’m not chilling in 70 degree comfort inside.

Married almost 25 years

First of all my spouse and I have been thru pretty much everything a couple can experience over the course of so many years. And I recognize how lucky and committed to our relationship to have made it this far.
So the big question: I’m 63F and not sure if this is just the normal timeline and the starting of losing my filter( which we all know happens as people get older) but the little stuff is really starting to get annoying. He cooks for himself every night yes this is good but all dishes and pots and pans are stacked to capacity in the drainer every morning. We have a dishwasher. Can I just let it continue to accept this is part of us or do I bring it up?

English dubbed movies and TV shows

I find it very difficult to watch a dubbed show or movie. I just started Unfamiliar and I like the premise but I’m not sure I can do 6 episodes with it dubbed.

Celebrating Pet Birthdays?

Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday? If you do, what is it you do and does your pet know it’s special? We had steak, corn and asparagus for our dogs last night. The only thing special was it was in their bowls.
