THE Best Wall Stud Finder - StudPop

This is it. No batteries, no crappy plastic construction, no hefty price tag, just a highly (if not the most) effective wall stud finder around. I just tossed the pricey popular yellow electronic one I had and seldom used. Now that i think of it, I think I learned about the StudPop from this sub.

Opera first-timer (sort of) seeking advice for upcoming season at the Met

My fiancee and I reside in the Princeton, NJ area. Though originally from Boston (not its suburbs), I love NYC and I visit often as I have season tickets to the NYLiberty with my son who resides and works in NYC. I was pleasantly surprised when he showed interest in attending an opera at the Met. I said, "I will make it happen, though I have never been to the Met and your mother and I didn't enjoy our singular opera experience." which was a production of Faust at Philadelphia's Academy of Music in Philadelphia It was bit too long and a couple behind us complained to me at one of the (3?) intermissions, that I was blocking his and his wife's view. (I am 6'5".) The tickets were a gift of a generous opera benefactor and I think his new and political wife put the kibosh on attending any Wagner operas.

Long story short. I want to take him to the Met. And, on another occasion, I would take my fiancee. I want to do it this Fall.

My questions:

  1. Best portal or site for buying tickets?

  2. Does it matter when I buy them?

  3. Suggestions for a good starter opera? Carmen, La Boheme, Barber of Seville?

  4. Where should we sit at $300 or less per ticket?

  5. Any vibrant and fun "before and after opera" restaurants or bars? (Though I favor dives and food trucks, I love the Gramercy Tavern for its bartenders, hospitality, food and drink, as pricey as it is.)

Many thanks!

Suggestions for improving curb appeal of home in Pennsylvania

This is the front of the house which my GF is updating a bit for her autistic son who will soon be moving in. The home is located in Pennsylvania, it’s in a semi-rural area and that front door faces north. Picture is taken from the south.

I am suggesting removing those two shrubs, reducing the lawn significantly and planting masses of wildflowers.

This area gets at least 6 hours of sun.

Thanks.

Beets and Beet Greens Experts

Today my kind neighbor gave me several beets which she had just harvested from her garden.

I have never cooked beets or the greens.

Can anyone just give me the name of a favorite recipe for beets or the greens or both?

Pruning Help for Mature Kwanzan Cherry in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, New York.

Our kwanzan cherry tree in the backyard of a brownstone is flourishing…too much so.
It’s about 30 years old and 30’ high with a wide crown that encroaches upon the backyards of the neighbors.
There are several cross-branching limbs and just a few dead branches. We would like to thin it and reduce the canopy by about 20%.

Is there a best or worst time to do this?

The tree’s value to us and neighbors comes from its value interesting trunk structure and shading, less so with the short-lived flowers.

Is it time to remove the stakes?

This is a willow oak planted 6 weeks ago in a sunny backyard/open field in Central NJ. It’s about 10’ tall and DBH is 1.5”. The landscape company (supposedly reputable) put a small mulch volcano around trunk. I think I remedied that. I am happy to see that there is some new growth at end of a few of the branches.

Is it time to remove the stakes?

Any other suggestions?

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

A mature (40+ years) Kwanzan about 30’ high with equal width in the back corner of a brownstone. Tenants and neighbors love it for its shading and spring flowers but don’t appreciate that it’s become so overgrown. Seems healthy, if not too healthy, but several cross limbs and waterspouts need removal. It could use a significant “haircut”. Any thoughts after looking at the attached pictures? Any thoughts as to how I can find a tree service company in Brooklyn? (Park Slope area)

Level of Difficulty in Switching from a Two Drain Kitchen Sink to a Single Drain

My wife won’t let me do this project myself which is probably a good idea. So, my plumber will do the job. The cutout and sink mfr will remain the same. Any thoughts on how long this will take by a master plumber and what kind of bill I am looking at here in NJ. We already purchased the replacement sink as he requested. Pictures are attached. Thanks!

AJ will turn 29 this month and will be starting his 7th NFL season

I loved watching AJ play and wished he had stayed. But, it was reported even before last year that, though he liked being an Eagle, he predicted he would never reach HOF numbers on an Eagles team, and the HOF is his ultimate goal. He knew that as an elite WR he was now in his plateau years and after this coming season his performance will begin to decline, if it hasn’t already.

Howie did good, real good.
