Fauna desperately needs updated

Above I attached some artwork from Beau Lamb (HG's lead artist), which showcases the potential this game has with its fauna.

While we’re all awaiting the Cosmos update, I think it would be a good time to cover some things I hope get touched. While I don’t think the name “COSMOS” implies anything for fauna, I still really hope they get touched up, even just a little bit. I think it's the one thing from the old OG trailers that have yet to be achieved in game.

Fauna are pretty much still in their 1.0 state, and it gets drastically more apparent the more updates to areas the game gets. Worlds made this pretty apparent to me. You’ll have these crazy storms with beautiful wind effects and lighting, all for a low-res, textured spore creature to get stuck trying to crawl horizontally up a mountain. Fauna, in my opinion, hold this game’s exploration back pretty severely. 99% of the time my immersion gets ruined (that’s not from bugs) is from the way the fauna either looks or behaves.

I think HG tried to remedy this by introducing more creatures, but I think it’s actually exaggerated the problem even more. Take, for example, the butterflies they added with Origins. They have unique AI: they’ll land on flora and have beautiful animations. Then compare that to one of the classic generated creatures, and it’s like a nuclear bomb next to a coughing baby.

It’s not even the way they look either (though they certainly need a face lift); it’s the way they behave. They have very basic AI, and practically all of them just wander in circles. It really takes me out of the game every time.

My dream update (along with multibiomes) is for fauna to get updated AI, generation, and behavior. I’d love to see fauna that relates to its environment (fur for cold planets, scales for heat, mutations for radiated, etc.). Fauna should have sleep/wake cycles and react to the player. Some fauna should have unique attacks (spitting, roaring, charging), and each fauna should sound unique; currently they all share this horrible screech. I wouldn’t mind if HG went wild and added tons of new parts too (and updated textures). I’d also like to see new gameplay: have animals be dangerous again. I remember in the Pathfinder days, animals used to HURT and pose a threat. I’d love for that to return. Let us farm them; we’re already halfway there with taming. I’d love to be able to make zoos or enclosures too.

A lot of the old trailers show off what I think this game desperately needs. I want to see huge rhinos charge through the trees, or glowing animals on dark planets. If you listen to the old trailers too, the soundscape and noises these aliens make is just amazing. (yes I know its scripted)

what fauna could be

I don’t doubt the Cosmos update will be game-changing, but I desperately hope that with each update, fauna will finally get shown some love.

24M thinning hair on sides

Not sure what's going on. I used to have thick, wavy hair, but over the past month the sides have completely lost their thickness and gotten this grainy texture. I have Hashimoto's but I'm not hypothyroid. When I shower or brush my hair, a lot falls out, mostly from the sides, and a lot of the strands have a white bulb on the end with these solid, oily cube-like things stuck to them. If I lift my hair up, you can see how thin it's gotten underneath. The top and back haven't been affected at all, which makes it even more confusing. The spots where I'm losing hair are also itchy.

I have included pictures of what my hair looks like when its down and when it is lifted up.

Do i have any potential?

I can already grow a mustache and goatee pretty easily; however my cheeks still seem sparse and pubey. My dad couldn't grow a beard until I graduated middle school (so like late 30s) and I see new hairs pretty much everyday.

Life is luck based

I think there comes a time where we all sort of accept that this is just the hand we were dealt. That we no choice or role in our creation and it all just comes down to biology and genetics. Just like animals the individual with the desired traits gets to procreate and live a normal, healthy life. And the individual that doesn’t is naturally outcasted and removed from the gene pool. We are no different no matter how much we convince ourselves otherwise

Both my parents are relatively normal looking people (I’d even place my dad above average), but I seemed to have inherited the worst traits from the both of them. I have short face syndrome, my eyes are wide set, I have chronic health issues and overall my face just didn’t develop correctly. I used to just hate my parents, blaming them for my looks and the way I developed but deep down I know they didn’t have a choice either. If they could, they would want me to be attractive and develop normally. They would want me to be able to enjoy every facet of life. I think what makes me angry though is how much my mom dismisses me. She tells me I look handsome, and that I don’t need surgeries, even though clinically I have a developmental syndrome, and I have had multiple doctors and oral surgeons say I will need surgery. She would rather tell me I need to work on my mental health, but cannot connect that my mental health is directly correlated with the quality of how I look and how I am treated.

Both her and my sister (who is a beautiful young woman) might as well be aliens to me. My sister is already moved into this extravagant place with her boyfriend at 21, while I am stuck at home, rotting away and working from home. Am I jealous? Of course. But do I resent her? Absolutely not. She just got luckier is all, it’s just how life works. I do wish my mom would be supportive of me though. It would make me feel less alone in this. I suspect she completely denies it because she would see it as a failure on her part, or even take it as an insult of her genetics. But, can you imagine your parents supporting you in your aesthetic development? Taking you to aesthetic doctors and making sure you could develop as best as genetically possible?… I hope in the future we see aesthetics as just important as health, because we are lying to ourselves and our own nature when we deny this.

I’m 24 now and I think I’m slowly starting to accept things won’t get better for me. I’ll still commit to the surgeries I’ve been told I need, but deep down I know much won’t change for me. I’ve been bullied all of my life for my looks, so I know it’s not just in my head. In a weird way it’s peaceful, knowing that it’s out of my control. I plan to do what little I enjoy, until I eventually find nothing to enjoy. Then I will simply exit this life. I think a lot of people here will see this and say that I need to go to therapy, or stop caring about looks, or do this or do that. I have been in therapy my entire life, I have been on more medications then you could name, and I have been overweight to extremely athletic. The core of the issue isn’t what I’m doing or not doing, it’s simply the way I look.

Feel like I have no good options. 4 surgeons, 4 different plans (Short Face Syndrome + Class II Div 2 + midface hypoplasia)

Hi everyone. Ive been dealt quite the hand and have short face syndrome, a deep bite (Class II Div 2), and mild midface hypoplasia. I have poor sleep, constant headaches, severe tmj, and I keep chipping my teeth from clenching subconsciously. It’s been a lot to deal with, and I’ve also become more self-conscious about my appearance over time. I have been desperately looking for a surgeon who cares about function AND aesthetics. Which I don’t think that should be dismissed. For me, aesthetics matter just as much as function.

I’ve consulted 4 different surgeons within the year and gotten 4 completely different opinions:

  1. Surgeon 1 said no to jaw surgery, arguing it would make my midface look even more recessed. Recommended genioplasty instead.

  2. Surgeon 2 declined my case outright, saying there wasn’t much he could do that I’d actually be happy with.

  3. Surgeon 3 suggested BSSO only. Seemed purely functionally focused and didn’t address my airway concerns.

  4. Dr. Pera (current) proposed a bimax with rotation, minor rhino, plus paranasal implants. Fully out of pocket, in Turkey, quoted around $28k USD. I’m willing to pay it if it gets me real relief and a better result.

Pera right now is my go-to. But my biggest fear with Dr. Pera’s plan is ending up with either too much forward movement (a “doggish” look) or a C shaped profile if the midface ends up looking more recessed by comparison. I’ve read a lot of conflicting info. Some say paranasal implants + LeFort I would solve it, others suggest full midface implant masks and a few even mention LeFort II (though I know that’s unlikely any surgeon would do).

Something I’ve noticed too is that a lot of the impressive SFS results I see online are from people who already had forward grown noses and midface structure. That’s why the change look so dramatic, they had the skeletal base to support it. I’m worried similar movements on me would throw everything out of proportion, since the only part of my face that projects forward at all is my brow bone. Actually, I’ve genuinely never come across anyone with a similar facial structure to mine to reference to see what worked for them…. One side profile looks bad, and the other side looks straight up rat like (for lack of a better term)

I’ve attached photos along with my ceph to help visualize things. Any advice, similar experiences, or surgeon recommendations would mean a lot right now.
