Drama on the ocean off Hungry Hollow

RAC Rescue Helicopter hovering over boat off Hungry Hollow

A RAC Rescue helicopter was spotted hovering over a boat chugging along off the coast of Bunbury today at approximately 10.40 AM. The boat was acqired by the helicopter in front of Back Beach and continued south along the coast to near Mindalong Beach before returning. The activity continued for an hour.

A call to Bunbury police yielded no new information. RAC Rescue has yet to return a message requesting more information.

Stay tuned.

Update: RAC Rescue returned my call and stated it wasn't a rescue, but couldn't confirm it was training. They said it probably was but had no knowledge of any in the area.

What are good questions to ask in a small community sub to generate interaction?

Hi everyone. I’ve asked the obvious ones i.e. best pub? places to eat? Hikes/walks?

Subreddit is a month old and interaction is sloooly growing, around 150 new members. Any idea for some questions to get people commenting? Thanks.

Why is Community achievements grayed out?

As stated. Happens on iPhone and Windows 10 desktop.

I am mod of an old dead sub. Was private before I got it. I made sub public and repurposed it.

I cannot set Community achievements as it is greyed out. Why? I messaged Admins to take a look but no response yet.

What’s going on?

DYK - Did you know the Alpha Capricornids meteor shower is happening,,, right now?

Alpha Capricornids meteors - Time-lapse photo taken 21 July 2026

https://preview.redd.it/0kz8iinscjeh1.png?width=621&format=png&auto=webp&s=b15e826a058d44f86e24c766846b9a974460f66d

From early July to mid August, the Alpha Capricornids meteor shower is famous among stargazers for one big reason: while they don't produce a lot of shooting stars, they produce dazzling, slow-moving fireballs that burn brightly and leave long, glowing trails across the sky.

The point of origin is in the constellation Capricorn, which is high in our northeastern overhead sky near or after midnight.

The peak time to watch is 10 PM to 2 AM, July 30 through the early morning of July 31.

The number of meteors per hour is expected to be low, around 1 every 10- 20 minutes, but the ones you will see should be spectacular.

Good places to view in any major city/town is the north end of town, looking North/NorthEast and high overhead, with light pollution to your back.

So really, just about anywhere in Australia with a view to the northeast will do.

It’s best to be reclining to watch overhead, so grab a lounge, rug up, and bring your fave beverage outside and post here if you see one!

When visitors outside Reddit try to visit my sub they are greeted with a message that says they can’t visit

Because it is a new sub they can’t visit. Then they are directed to either download the app or directed to the home page.

How long will my sub be subjected to this? Is it permanent?

I am trying to generate interest for new users but this is no way for them to proceed. Buy a car before you test drive it?

(This is on Android and Apple iPhones so far.)
