US 250th post - US-Polish History [3/3] <3 GOG

Polish and American culture are siblings. In history, in character. Agrarian, popular (if imperfect) government, equestrian. Careful to guard their flanks, as history has shown prudent. And both love EDM, as civilized nations are wont to.

(We're not so sure about Disco)

Most important of all, to Gamers, in the US, and worldwide, is that Poland is the homeland and birthplace of Good Old Games – GOG – a name every real Gamer knows, and many truly love!

GOG's efforts have done more to advance meaningful digital ownership, ready-start gameplay, and Games Preservation than possibly any other company, or even museum or collectors have, worldwide!

Because of GOG, many games that might have been lost to history are most certainly saved, and enjoyable for generations to come!

Thank you so much Poland, and your greatest gift to the Digital Age, for which many, many American Gamers are grateful! Thanks to everyone @ GOG – Rock and Game on!! #VivaGOG - Niech żyje Polska!

US 250th post - US-Polish History [2/3]

The next in our series on Polish-US history in the course of our fabulous and extremely hard-fought Revolutionary War against the cruel empire (Prison Ships, Impressment, autocratic foreign rule) – Britain, of the time – we present the Father of American Cavalry - Casimir Pulaski

For a country whose legacy is inextricably intertwined with organized horsemanship, his contributions were substantial.

A great hero, and one of Poland's most significant contributors to American culture.

US 250th post - US-Polish History

Poland and the US go way back. In fact, part of our founding ideals took leafs from the concept of a 'commonwealth,' something Poland, Lithuania, and modern Ukraine once shared. On the eve of the celebration of our great Revolutionary War, we're highlight heroes who deserve to be recognized in US-Polish history, the first is Thaddeus Kosciuszko, martial engineer and hero of the American Revolution. Also hero in Polish war history! 1/3

GBAMFS Releases Policy Report Supporting California's Protect Our Games Act AB1921

📄 Policy Review - SKG California Bill - REPORT RELEASE [GBAMFS]

GBAMFS has published a comprehensive three-part policy brief supporting California's Protect Our Games Act (AB 1921).

The report examines the bill from three perspectives:

🎮 Gaming Legacy & Community Impact

#StopPayingGames

This is self explanatory; to all who do not support the idea of player ownership, there shall be no further funding, regardless of their game's quality. #StopPayingGames until they #StopKillingGames by not buying any new or existing products that you do not already own. You can do this regardless of your country; play what you already have access to, and buy nothing else until there are proper legislations against this malpractice - and that also includes applying them to stores like Steam.

Disclaimer: Nintendo and Epic Games have not exactly voiced an opposition, and hold positive values from what conversations have pointed in the comments, so take their placement on this list with a grain of salt.

To answer everyone's constant question of 'Why is XYZ on this list' it's because these companies are implicated as opposition to SKG's proposals (VGE or ESA lobbying).

Update on Linktree, and X platform

We're pleased to announce the update and completion of our Linktree page. Although there is not much content on many of these other platforms yet, more will be coming soon

We'd like to thank the exceptionally talented and hard-working engineers who pulled off the miraculous feat of streamlining and refreshing the X site post-Musk acquisition. It's a big heap to sift through. It's pretty amazing, honestly, that it works as well as it does. We cannot too highly compliment the management and administrative approach of the site, however. It's been a sore spot for a Customer Service-oriented and Gamer Advocacy-focused group like ours. X is good for two things principally: News/politics and some say porn/sports (or drama.)

Not so good for consumer outreach, advocacy, and so-so for cultural preservation, promotion, efforts. Maybe our posts on X have just not hit enough of the right notes to make a bigger impact. Who knows? If you think you do, post in the comments below! Meantime, please see our Linktree, favorite it, and keep in touch with us on one of any of the many social options we present there. Although our checkmark may soon drop on X, our star will rise greater than ever everywhere else! One thing Gamers know very well about is not quitting. Non-Gamers would do well to understand this about Gamers and gamer culture!

We're do-ers by nature. Gamers may have invented sticktoitiveness. We don't buy our cred. We earn it. Wring it from rubber, plastic, steel, and other things if necessary. Crucially, Gamers know how to team-play. (We see devs most of who come from our starting-point. How else do they make such amazing games for us?!) We're a lot more alike than discourse there suggests!!

We're humbled and grateful for very significant interest our work has generated from highly respected, high-quality people in and outside of the gaming scene! While our focus has been divided over the course of the last year-to-year and a half, our outreach and activity has not been in vain. It is too much work for any one person or even handful of people to do to address some of the things we have to to realistically serve the gamer community's interests. Yes, some of it looks boring. Some of it is (it really is!) But it's worth it, though.

If companies responded to simple negative feedback chains like they get every day online, we would have not started this. We're not in it to vent. We're in it to WIN!!! That means we help each other. That means hard work. The means we firmly but civilly insist upon needed changes happening. Collectively. And don't stop until they occur! -- It isn't a mission that gives clout. It's a mission that gives glory, because it's shared success! There is much success to be had yet-and we've not yet begun to write, so to speak! WE'D PREFER to be gaming! So let us help each other, and us all, to help ourselves find our way back to it!

First direct cash donation accepted, thank you for your support!

With heartfelt thanks we'd like to recognize our first direct cash donation, and donor (you know who you are!) who is helping to build a better future for gaming, and Gamers everywhere by supporting our org and efforts!

Doing ethics, looking at legislation, working with and addressing companies in gaming who do good, and some which aren't doing right by Gamers, it's not easy!

It may not be exciting, and it doesn't reward you like gameplay does. It's worth it though because it's about making a better, more satisfactory experience for us all over the long-run. And encouraging the improvement, maintenance, and even creation of breakout art that we all come to gaming for!

If we all take just moments a day, and a little bit of cash here and there (less than a Gamepass subscription!,) to support our own community, and artists who need the thoughts and basic help to bring us the best stuff, we'd do a tremendous amount to move the industry, and conversations in the right direction (and away from useless, wealth and attention-diverting drama which just bleed gaming, and Gamers in the end!)

So if you support that vision and want to see more from us, start with a donation today:

https://cash.app/$JJ877cn

Personal donation for now, incorporation pending (501c3/other being worked on.) Thank you!

Other options to support us are on our Linktree:

I wanted to use OCP Art Studio again after 40 years, but I didn't have the plastic Lenslok. So I built a web decoder.

Back in 1986, on a CZ-Spectrum (a local Argentine clone), I fell in love with Art Studio. Decades later, I wanted to revisit my retro pixel art roots on an emulator, but I hit a wall: I didn't have the Lenslok prism to get past the copy protection.

Simon Owen built a brilliant C++ Windows utility (LensKey) to solve this years ago. Since I'm on a macOS environment and wanted something without dependencies, I extracted his original mathematical transformation matrices and ported the whole thing to a modern, client-side web.

It's completely free, runs locally in your browser, and handles the screen capturing workflows smoothly.

You can use it here directly: https://www.bustelo.com.ar/apps/lenskey-web/index-en.html

Or check the source code on GitHub: https://github.com/sbustelo/lenskey-web

Huge thanks to Simon Owen for the original reverse engineering. Hope this helps someone else trying to play Elite, Tomahawk, or Art Studio today :)

PS AI WAS used. Your pre-emptive downvotes are already noted. For those of us who lived through the era of "no calculators in class," and "what if you don't have your phone with you" and developed our literacy, worldviews and deep knowledge before clankers [LLMs] existed, we don't have the same hang-up. Because LLMs are an ethical HAZARD not an absolute and direct HARM- to us, we ask for your attempt at understanding the experimental and difficult integration of this technology into our world. If you really want solid info, go read books. Only books. It's how Jdawg did it, and Internet, before it became polluted with commercial hype and other trash. The letters, words and concepts AI synthesizes are only as good as what you put into it. They don't prompt themselves. Fr

A new duplication option (as permitted by law + license)

Good news everyone! Actually in this case!

From article: “OnmiDrive is a firmware modification for MediaTek MT1959-based optical disc drives manufactured by Hitachi-LG Data Storage, allowing the drive to read proprietary game discs for consoles such as the GameCube, Wii, and Xbox 360.”

Preserve and play what you love!
