I regret telling people my baby’s name but not for the usual reason

My husband and I decided we would tell people out babys name as soon as we had the gender. So far no one has had anything negative to say which I know is often what happens when you start telling people the name.

But I am starting to regret telling people because all they are getting for the baby are things with his name ALL OVER IT. I have blankets, shirts, sweaters, bags, and now a hamper. All with his name embroidered or printed on it(some are even ai generated which I hate to say I probably won’t use). It was cute at first but I really just don’t like his name on everything.

It feels super silly to be annoyed about because I do love his name but it just feels so corny after the 10th gift with his name on it. My MIL is the biggest culprit, she sent us a picture today of yet another blanket with his name printed on it and AI cartoon dinosaurs.

I have been grateful and not shamed anyone though, I know they are just as excited as we are and I don’t want anyone to feel bad for something so simple.

Bluestar & Snowfur

I had to draw my favorite siblings.

I head canon Bluestar is buff like her mom Moonflower but has her dads short fur and Snowfur is daintier like Stormtail but fluffy like her mom. Ik its not canon descriptions for the parents but Stormtail is such a stinky man that I just imagine he is a bit thin and lanky and bitter about his much stronger built beauty of a first wife.

I might get around to doing Moonflower and Stormtail soon.

What’s your favorite blanket pattern you have seen or used??

I’m open to any kind of pattern type, I just want to see what others have enjoyed or maybe want to do one day :)

I’m struggling to find a pattern I really like for a blanket project.

Missing Milestones

My mom wanted to be a grandmother so bad, I lost her 4 years ago on August 1st and this year was so much harder than the rest because I am currently 5 months pregnant with her grandson. Her first and maybe only grand child and they will never know each other physically.

I’ve hit a few milestones since her death, I was only 23 when she passed, Im 27 now. Every time one passes it is laced with such a bittersweet feeling. Good things are happening but she’s not here to experience them.

Life goes on and it just sucks to feel the absence in everything good, to know she will miss so much more as time goes on. It feels unfair…

Advice for FTM of a boy

We just found out baby’s gender today, I had no preference so I am absolutely thrilled about this little boy but I have no idea what to expect or where to start!! (Didnt with a girl either, I would have asked either way haha)

Any mom’s out there with good tips or advice about raising a boy? What should I expect and what are some common misconceptions? How have you guys found the experience?

I will admit fears to bringing a boy into this world where men are funneled into negative cultural pipelines. Its scary what he could end up exposed to when he is older. I know this depends on me and my husband to set him up with a good foundation of core beliefs. My hope is that we will contribute a good man into the world. My husband is already a phenomenal role model for what a man can be.

But I do wonder if I am alone in this fear or if anyone else has experienced the same concerns??

His name will be Kain Elliot, after his paternal grandpa and maternal grandma who have since passed. We plan to call him Elliot as its a tradition for men on my side to go by middle names :)

Goblins!

I’ve been making these little guys for two years now, I am obsessed and I made my own pattern after some trial and error. Its not a written pattern so they are usually all unique in some way :)

These are some of my favorites!!

The multi-colored ones like pic one and three are made from scrap yarn!! I tie them all together then hope I have enough for at least the body haha

Pic four of the three goblins is a franken-pattern I put together using patterns from a book called Crochet Magical Creatures by Drew Hill. They were the earliest versions from when I was figuring out how I wanted these to look! Great book for anyone wanting to dip into amigurumi style crochet. It has an awesome breakdown in the beginning for all the stitches PLUS pictured diagrams for how to hook the yarn. I also made the dragon pattern from this book and it came out super cute.

My dad is financially dependent on me at 27 and its draining

I 27F have been financially supporting my dad since I was 23. It started as a few bucks here and there and by now he lives with me and my husband and continues to ask for money every day for alcohol and cigarettes.

Since I was a child(10-16) I was the sole caregiver to my mom through her alcoholism until I finally had enough and went to live with my dad(16-21). That was all fine and he had a job and never asked anything from me. Until the pandemic when he lost his job bc his company couldn’t keep operating.

Since then he has slowly started to rely on me more and more. I am exhausted, I feel like I haven’t been able to live my life without a parent clinging to me for support. I hear him walking in to the room and tense up, preparing myself for him to make small talk then slip in the ask for money. He has lied about how much he needs for certain expenses just to have extra for his beer and cigarettes and I can’t take it anymore.

He isnt an angry or mean drunk, but he is an alcoholic and is very dependent on his vices. Both of my parents are/were. (My mom passed in 2022 from liver cirrhosis and other complications from her chronic drinking).

I dont want him to be on the streets, because he would be without our home. I tell him no and he will take it as my answer but make pathetic remarks about how its “just a few bucks”. That money adds up. I am living paycheck to paycheck.

I have a baby on the way and bless my husband for helping as much as he does but I refuse to let him financially support my dad so all the money he eats up comes out of my paychecks.

Im so tired. I love my parents they did the best the could given their issues. But as their only daughter it has been me caring for them long before it should have been the case.

Did your MIL change during/after first baby??

My MIL has always been pretty great. I had concerns as my husband is her only son and I expected a smother mother but she was really all open arms and welcoming of me from day one.

Recently, with our first baby on the way, she has gotten super clingy with my husband. Guilt tripping him for not calling or checking in (something he didn’t do often before it was never their dynamic). She told him yesterday that “he should be more thoughtful, she wont be around forever”.

For context. She is 53, healthy, and her recent illness was a sinus infection.

Im super concerned about what will happen when the baby gets here. We won’t have time for ourselves, let alone her. I already said I do not want anyone staying here for a while after baby arrives. I want it to be us and the newborn for AT LEAST two weeks maybe a month.

Has anyone else experienced a MIL switch up with a new baby??

Venue Recommendations for Babyshower

Hi all! We are looking for a good place to host around 40 people for a baby shower. Ideally something that won’t break the bank but I am open to all suggestions!

We realized we had more people than expected who wanted to come so now we need to find somewhere other than our home.

How do you feel about our name options??

We don’t know our babies gender yet, but we have already picked our names and Im curious what people think!

For a boy we have Elliot

For a girl we have Penelope

I don’t feel comfortable sharing the full names but middles are pretty simple, one after my husband’s late father that is a relatively common name. And the other after his aunt but shortened so her name isn’t a mouthful to say haha

Elliot is for my late mother and Penelope is just a name we both have always loved and I think has some cute nickname alternatives.

How much crying is normal while pregnant?

Hi, FTM(27F) 12w3d

I have been very sad recently and I don’t know how normal that is at this stage. Early on I wasn’t crying much, it was mostly just a lot of morning sickness.

More recently, probably the last week, I have been so inconsolably sad. Lots of crying, anything can trigger it. I feel really down and I am not sure how normal this is for this stage of pregnancy if its normal at all. I just want to cry and stay in bed constantly.

I know that the nausea and having to wfh have been pretty hard, I think maybe its catching up to me. I am feeling terribly isolated. Im pretty bummed I dont function like I did before pregnancy. BUT i am happy to be pregnant, we were trying for a while and my husband has been a saint.

I am on low dose sertraline, started prior to pregnancy. I have thought about going up a dose and will be talking to my OB next week at my monthly. Just looking for some insight from other mothers in the meantime. I hope this much emotion isn’t hurting my baby.

How can some be so hateful and still think you’re the problem??

Long story short I had a falling out with a friend but we still work together. She has been beyond hateful and mean towards me. Talks about me to my other coworkers and shoots me nasty looks if she even bothers to look at me.

And its all over some plans that she tried to make while we were drinking but didn’t follow up on a month later and I figured wasn’t happening or was maybe forgotten about so its my bad for not following up too. They were her plans so I figured she would reach out. Not one follow up. I stayed home all night, its not like I made other plans or ghosted her. She treated me shitty weeks before admitting she was upset about this.

Im trying to be friendly, I dont want any animosity because this is all so silly. She wont talk to me at all, glares at me like I genuinely did something horrible. She’s a chronic gossip and I know she is talking about me with superiors and coworkers. Goes out of her way to greet and say goodbye to everyone but me. Just these small petty things that don’t matter much but are meant to exclude and “punish” me.

How can someone be so outwardly horrible over a misunderstanding and think Im the cause of all this?? I just want to like my job again and not be surrounded by this toxic middle school level bs 😭

This is Fergus!

The rescue had guessed terrier or poodle mix. I kind of thought terrier/whippet mix. He has such long legs and running is his favorite game. His hair is so coarse everywhere but his head which is soft poodle type curls.

I brush regularly but there is no taming his hair, he sheds very mildly with brushing but his hair hasnt gotten longer sine we got him in November 2025.

Supermutt was a combo of heeler, shih-zhu, and jack russell.

Still not sure where the size or legs come from but it has to be the poodle right??

We dont care what he is at the end of the day, he’s such a great dog :)

Edit:: oh he weighs about 20lbs!! Medium sized dog for sure
