Swears on the precious…

I never realized the significance of Frodo making Sméagol swear on the precious…

"The Ring is treacherous. It will hold you to your word."

Is this both in the books and the film?

Not sure why I have only just clued in now, but this makes way more sense as to why gollem / Sméagol is loyal to Sam and Frodo.

He is then betrayed by them at the waterfall pool, and this is when he turns on them.

To me it never made sense that he would just casually take them to where they wanted to go and not have a chance to take the ring for himself. Even 2 Vs 1.

How could I work around the lack of tiered products / members sites?

I am looking to convert my existing blog into a paid membership model and would like some guidance on the best way to structure it. There is also an added layer that I want to tier this subscription with a second tier, that would provide access to a monthly live stream.

My goal is to create two membership tiers:

Tier 1 — Journal Membership

Access to my existing blog archive (categories previewed in summary blocks)

Tier 2 — Journal + Monthly Salon

Everything in Tier 1

Access to a monthly live online event (likely hosted through Zoom)

  1. Is it true square-space does not allow for tiered client memberships or products?

Specifically, I would like to know:

  1. Can a higher-tier membership automatically include access to all content available in a lower-tier membership?

  2. What is the recommended way to organize the member pages so Tier 1 receives blog access and Tier 2 receives blog access plus additional event content?

  3. Can I create a protected member page for the monthly Salon that only Tier 2 members can access?

  4. Are there any limitations around using an external service like Zoom for live member events while controlling access through Squarespace?

I already have an existing blog with 30+ posts and would like to preserve the content while changing the access model.

Thank you for your help.

Best Cannolis in Vancouver?

I’ve been craving a really good cannoli (had some amazing ones in New York) but I’ve been having a hard time finding them. I resorted to getting one from Thrifty’s that was not very good.

Where do you guys get cannolis?

Worksafebc are predatory frauds who enjoy preying upon children, women, working population of BC, and their favourite… newcomer immigrants!

Worksafebc are mandated to train and educate ‘safety’ in the work place but have zero policy definition or act definition for the word ‘safe’.

Ever met an insurance company that can’t define what they are insuring?

Ever met anyone who educates and trains people on something they can not define?

Ever met an insurance company who get to directly profit $2B a year from their own pseudo disinformation, with such a strong and blatant conflict of interest?

Wsbc are worse than rapists becuase rapists can be held accountable for their crimes.

No way to challenge wsbc they are completely protected by mayors, mlas, ombuds, oipc, the list goes on.

People working at wsbc are violating Canadians and should not feed their families with such a paycheque

Was Edie Falco the second best actor in the show, only after the late James Gandolfini?

In terms of performances of an actor, there is little to no doubt in Edie’s acting in this show, and to be so closely tied to James’ character, playing his wife, it’s easy for her to be overlooked.

Jim was an amazing actor, he could say much with so little, yet Edie is not out of place or out acted on screen.

Her character deals with a lot of ‘scenarios’ and so as an actor she plays a versatile character, and she crushes it.

The scene with her and Jim in season 4 where they are having the domestic argument, is top notch acting.

She has some funny lines, her accent is always making comical phrasings like ‘beaayyyhr’ and ‘coooowfffeee’.

Carmela is a believable character and it’s easy to forget she’s as much as a lead actor as James in this show.

If you disagree, who would be your top two actors, based on their performance in The Sopranos?

More Talking Sopranos, an add on post! Michael should do it again, solo! I’d listen.

I totally agree that Steve ruins this podcast by vindicating Michael at way to many steps and turns of the podcast.

Once or twice could be fine but he develops an ironic attitude toward Michael that makes for an extreme awkwardness and vibe to most the episodes.

Early on, he calls Michael out for his own perception of how Michael treated him early on in their time working together, and never let it go.

I’ve genuinely held off on listening to these again due to this, while remembered some of the interviews at the start of each podcast, go into dynamics of both the tv-production business as much as the Sopranos shows it’s self, so there was a very nice duality of insight that came from interviewing crew as well as cast, that I’d like to explore again.

It was almost like Michael played a character who constantly got the shaft and then in paying tribute got shafted with Steve, who I like too, but in this podcast I feel like he really dicked it up, made it awkward thinking it was funny, and prevented insights where insights were welcomed.

For the most part it’s a solid body of work but really had to second that previous post.

I’m on my 7th watch through - I might try the podcast again after that. It was interesting how much they knew about each episode given they were not working every scene of every show.

Michael should do it again, no guests, no Steve, and really rabbit hole on tandem ideas Vs going through each episode again.

Borderline Personality Disorder. Olivia, Tony S, AJ, Chrissy, and even David Chase!? A theory…

The catalyst of BPD is fear of abandonment while there are also 9 diagnosing symptoms total:

1.	Fear of abandonment
2.	Unstable, intense relationships
3.	Unstable self-image/identity disturbance
4.	Impulsive, self-damaging behavior
5.	Suicidal behavior or self-harm
6.	Emotional instability/mood reactivity
7.	Chronic feelings of emptiness
8.	Intense or poorly controlled anger
9.	Stress-related paranoia or dissociation

We all have these but in diagnosis each one has to have entered or ruined every aspect of your life and not just a relationship or two.

Chrissy fits this bill like his beak keeps a cigaret dry in the rain…

The chronic feelings of emptiness, unstable self image, stress related paranoia, so on so forth. It’s all there.

BPD has a stigma that only women get diagnosed with it and men get diagnosed with NPD instead, Christopher is an emotional wreck and extremely verbal in his outrage which is typical of people with bpd being more about words than acts.

‘The words’ or ‘verbal acting out’ is where the lean on women for diagnosis comes from, as women typically destroy through words where as men typically destroy through violence. Women gossip to destroy reputation and men fight or present the likelihood of physical dispute to destroy reputation.

As a side note I never liked Christopher’s character until the later seasons, he’s essentially an absolute bitch, exactly like Jessie in breaking bad who projects the term ‘bitch’ onto everyone but himself. Both characters would work as stereotypical women, acting out.

Chrissy is driven by the romance and belonging of the mafia, and in some ways is the most legit or old school but his bitchyness reigns true for me. I’ve always hated people, men, like him. Or Jessie in breaking bad.

Christopher lost his father, causing fear of abandonment, and he’s very insecure about being made fun of or not being accepted - the latter especially in earlier seasons.

Christopher and AJ both develop strong drug use - typical with BPD.

I see this BPD the part in Christopher that Tony cares for as he relates it to himself, and likes to believe however it’s only Chrissy who is like this.

Is this part of why Tony S sympathizes with Christopher as in a weird way he knows the pain of BPD through his mother, if not himself!?

Olivia is supposed to represent someone with borderline personality disorder, and that typically parents with BPD pass it along to their children starting form the womb and into developmental childhood. Environment is considered a big part of BPD development.

If we are told that Olivia has BPD, then the chances of Tony having it are high. This then means the chances of AJ having it are high also.

Tony does demonstrate multiple times that he has a fear of abandonment through out the show, the ducks for Christ sake, he’s highly manipulative also - perhaps representing the undiagnosed men in BPD!?

Personally I’d put Tony on anti social personality disorder (which is either psychopath or sociopath, psychopaths are born sociopaths are made) [Tony a sociopath as he’s a good kid] but Tony could also have BPD along with Narcissistic personality disorder and or ASPD. Same cluster b of personalities. People can have multiple in the diagnosing world.

AJ enters into the mix (screen) at a younger age but modern age in terms of the stigma and treatment for mental health being forthcoming at the time the show was set/aired, and as a child he wasn’t as strong as his dad to mask the symptoms, while the world he grew up in began encouraging people to not mask.

AJ speaks like someone with BPD, he’s highly emotional, depressed, tries to un alive himself. Olivia has also had an influence on him, she drove out Carmela’s parents and for example she delivers the famous ‘it’s all a big nothing’ spiel.

Tony looses his father, which adds to his fear of abandonment. AJ is scared of loosing his father because of the line of work he does. Chrissy lost his father…

I sense this could be one of those things we are left to see for ourselves but it fostered from some form of genuine intent. Chase is said to have had a grandmother with BPD and that’s where Olivia came from, so part of me would also wonder if chase had BPD (diagnosed or not). He can be a bit cunty in his interviews, and he’s a bit of an elusive guy as far as I can tell, so who knows what he’s actually licking with or like in person.

We also see the pattern that Tony dates women with strong BPD stereotypes, which is referenced directly about representing his mother in his partners.

Did the Sopranos family get hotter on the phones as time went on?

For the most part the family were careful about what they said on the phones, using pay phones etc.

With Tony’s cousin Tony B, Tony specifically says ‘not on the phone’.

In season six they are talking about everything and anything on the phone, like the body Pauline and Tony buried. Given that Tony also knows he’s got fbi picking up the hollow ammunition charge as part of a bigger investigation, as per his lawyer, did they get sloppy, or have some tactic/ tech to keep lines fresh?

How do I clean my ‘lint filter trap chute duct housing’ the bit below the lint trap. Anyone have any ‘tools’ or hacks!?

I got the filter holes in the drum nice and clean but I do not know how to do efficiently scrub clean this lower section as it’s quite thin to reach down, and also has a fair bit of sandy residue build up that isn’t super clear.

I’ve tried hot soapy microfibre cloth that I ‘push’ around but it’s not very efficient.

Did Gloria Trillo have Borderline Personality Disorder?

Given that Gloria takes her own life this certainly fast tracks a lot of her other impulsive and maladaptive behaviours into the BPD diagnosis.

She has very unstable relationships, while Dr Melfi also compares Gloria to Olivia Soprano, Tony’s Ma, who she suspected had BPD.

Such a tragic disorder and made me reflect on it after Tony goes to the dealership, once she’s passed.

I think Olivia’s diagnosis from Dr Melfi is unfair and perhaps not a fair portrayal of BPD.

Best addition to remake - a happy Hyrule?

As a kid I was always gutted that after beating the game that hyrule doesn’t turn into a chiller happier place - like new dialogue or even quests.

Anyone else get that first time depression when releasing it didn’t impact hyrule directly?

Does Ralphie intentionally manipulate Jackie Jr by telling him about how his father and Tony robbed a card game?

Many of the characters seem to get a kick out stirring things up, especially Tony, especially Ralphie. Anti social types will often do this out of boredom, or to boost their self esteem.

Ralphie had just made a big boo boo by disrespecting The Bing, and so I ask …

Was Ralphie’s act of telling the story of how Jackie Sr. And Tony S raise to fame when they heisted a card game, a way to sabre rattle Jackie Jr into some entertainment for Ralphie that also takes away from Ralphie’s spotlight of shame and mistakes, safe guarding his own insecurity of having to apologize to Tony and being slapped around also?

Perhaps to go as far as to say he knew that Jackie Jr liked Tony more than himself, and that Tony loved him, and that Ralphie would forever be in his shadows, if not his father’s, so this was a hyper destructive intention of his to hurt Tony while also getting the heat off of himself, while also rolling the cluster b dice of sadistic entertainment?

Even though there had been a killing as well as shots fired at made men by Jackie Jr’s heist crew, Tony was still willing to take Ralphie’s decision to not clip JJ, and Ralphie backs out which shows he never truly had JJ’s heart at mind.

Tracks on the anti social behaviour to stir up the pot, while also Ralphie not generally being loved by Jackie Jr, and also that Ralphie had just experienced a lot of shame, so he needed to distract everyone.

It’s a valid argument imo. Ralphie had to know how dumb Jackie Jr was but also that they would try this very thing themselves. Perhaps also why he doesn’t hesitate to give him a gun, he enjoys seeing people ruin their life or be put in danger?

Part of a sociopathic sadistic pattern, highlighted through out the show by many characters, even verbally admitted by Tony that he does stuff when he’s bored. Dr Jordan Peterson also made this comment about trolls online being a form of narcissistic boredom.

What is the ‘difference’ between Jackie Jr. Holding up a card game Vs. Tony & Jackie?

When Ralphie is explaining how Tony & the late Jackie (Senior) got respect for holding up a card game of made guys, all I logically took away was that Ralphie had the clap and missed the heist, because it made zero sense as to why Tony and Jackie ‘moved up’ or were on their way to being made after their historical card game hold up.

Later when Jackie Jr. Calls Tony - JJ points out that Tony and his own father did the same thing - and Tony replies by telling him to figure out the ‘difference’.

Is it that someone was shot by Jackie JT’s heist?

How did this play for Tony & Jackie in a ‘different’ positive way, when they ultimately betrayed their elders and the ‘thing’ they aspired to be ‘in’?

Was it that they showed balls and muscle, while not killing or harming anyone? It sounds like the beef got squashed in a sit down.

Or was Ralph the one who mixed the message? Is he intentionally manipulating here?

If this is covered in the film don’t tell me I want to watch that after this run through.

Loving the show. Brings so many questions and engagement compared to modern shows.

Thanks

Best simple idea for remake: Vinyl Records items for bigger radio catalog + Three Dog ‘owwwwww bow wow wow’ vibes

Whenever I played FO3 I always wished they had made special items that were vinyl records and then you could give them to Three Dog or various people / places, and that this would be a relevant way to also increase the songs playing on the radio.

Totally makes sense this tech could survive as it is not digital and was generally most peoples trash or collectables.

Surely it would be quite simple to do and could even create a few quests from it as 3 dog is relatively written out after his part.

Would be such a cool way to bring more songs in and would be a highly desirable item(s) to seek out due to the playlist increase relevance!

Thanks for listening’ children…. This is three dog saying bring me that wax and non irradiated snacks!
