Just installed the latest Lubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite A135 and the Play/pause and Stop buttons work in VLC but both the previous and next track skip buttons just make it restart the current track. I've not tried them in another media player.

I installed playerctl and configured both buttons in shortcut keys but VLC ignores those settings. In VLC's hotkeys setup, the global settings don't see them.

I'd like to have these buttons work with VLC and any other media player.

Then there's the homepage and media player launch buttons. I'd like the homepage button to launch firefox and the media player button to (for now) launch VLC.

Would be nice to have a GUI app that make setting these up easy, taking care of all the configuration in the background.

Since BiglyBT can't get the forwarding port from PIA now, unless Request Port Forwarding is enabled in PIA's Network Settings - which makes all US PIA servers unusable, is there any plan to update the VPN Helper plugin to fix things so it can work without Request Port Forwarding turned on in PIA?

I downloaded and installed the latest PIA. I reinstalled the TAP adapter. I uninstalled the VPN helper plugin then directly downloaded it from the plugins page and reinstalled it, including re-entering my PIA password. It had kept my PIA username. That's a security fault. The VPN username should be wiped when the VPN plugin is uninstalled.

This is where the VPN helper entry under Plugins & Extras went away.

Still it refused to bind to the net6[0] address so I typed in the IP address, saved, restarted BiglyBT and my torrents are going again.

But how do I know for certain it's actually working without the green OK?

Google is zero help. I'm in the USA yet for some reason it either is showing me all kinds of cables that are not what I searched for (audio, ethernet, TOSLINK, etc), or it's giving me sites that have what I want, but in the Phillippines, South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, pretty much anywhere that's not In the USA or even Canada or Mexico.

I have a LaserJet 4100DTN with a 620N print server in one EIO slot. I'd like to put a SATA SSD in the other EIO slot and after an hour's searching it looks like the J7989 was the only SATA EIO module, equipped with various drive sizes.

Is that one compatible with the LaserJet 4100? Can I swap the HDD with a 128 gig SATA SSD?

If the J7989 won't work, is is possible to use a slim 2.5" IDE to SATA adapter with one of the IDE EIO modules?

Is there some special procedure to changing drive types/sizes or does it add drive formatting to the printer menu?

I have a Samsung B series sound bar connected by eARC HDMI to a 2025 model 55S90F TV.

Almost every time I turn the TV on, it has switched back to TV Speakers.

I HAVE THE AUTOMATIC SETTING ON so it should *stay on soundbar*. It's not the Bluetooth headphones doing it. Turn them on and it switches to them. Turn the headphones off and it goes back to the soundbar.

Why does it not have a setting that makes it stay on soundbar so it can not switch itself to the built-in speakers?

I bought the Blu-Ray cheap on eBay with a bare case and the booklet. I figured there would be scans of the insert cover all over but nooo. There's ONE on dvdcovers and I ain't paying $29 for a membership just to get one cover image that from their preview looks like crap. Another site has a custom cover but I want to print off the original style.

The electricity in this small town has frequent very short blips where it goes off just long enough to cause clocks to blink and desktop computers to shut down.

But the power doesn't go off long enough for some electronic appliances to fully bleed off all charge in capacitors. Then they can end up in a wonky state where they don't work right until unplugged for a minute or so.

My refrigerator is one of those. The blips fried a circuit board that I had replaced. Every time the power blips I have to turn off the breaker for the circuit it's on. The control panel's all lit up but the compressor doesn't run and the lights inside don't come on.

I'd like to find a small 120V power bank I can plug between fridge and outlet that will run like an uninterruptable power supply with a switch to battery so fast the fridge won't be affected.

I'm looking at a Samsung 55s90f and want to know if I just sign into my Samsung account and Google for YouTube and I'm done?

I was given a fairly recent 65" LG and to be able to use all of its features I had to check boxes on all kinds of agreements to have my viewing habits spied on, get sent emails and tons of other invasive BS. I quickly traded it for an X-Box One-X and a PS4 Slim.

PS. Does this Samsung model do TV to Phone mirroring? My current Samsung TV does so I don't have to miss any of an F1 or NASCAR race when I need to take a bathroom break. 😄

I have WSL on windows 11 with Ubuntu 24.04. I only have GIMP, VLC, Synaptic Package Manager, and Zutty installed.

GIMP and VLC launch as they should from the Start menu. The other two *did* when I first installed them but after some updating of Ubuntu with sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade, they don't.

sudo xauth merge ~/.Xauthority && sudo synaptic

That launches the package manager, with an error

Ho do I fix things so that the shortcuts in the Start menu work and stay working for Linux apps?

I have a LaserJet 4100 DTN that I've upgraded with 256 meg RAM and a 100 megabit JetDirect 620n EIO card. HP says it's compatible with PCL5 and PCL6 and PostScript, but whenever I try printing with the latest PCL6 universal print driver it kicks out a page that says unsupported protocol.

It works with the last release of the PCL5 UPD upd-pcl5-x64-6.1.0.20062 (which was a real PITA to find to download) and it works with the current PostScript UPD.

Second question, automatic configuration gets everything correct, except for the existence of Tray 3. I have to manually enable Tray 3 and set it to Letter and Tray 2 to Legal.

It's a very nice printer, been running non stop for years. I just recently replaced all the paper handling rollers and the control panel because the - value button quit working, Tray 2 wouldn't feed lighter Legal size paper, and Tray 3 was beginning to slip with normal weight Letter. I expect this printer to outlive me! It replaced a LaserJet 4 with MIO JetDirect, which replaced a LaserJet III.

I picked up the 4100 DTN cheaper than an addon 500 sheet tray would've cost for the 4.

For an HP laptop 17t-by400 the support downloads show two BIOS updates.

Why is F.64 older than F.25? Why the much larger file size?

The laptop had never been updated from the BIOS it shipped with in 2020 so I updated it to the F.25 version.

I installed sticker hub and uninstalled it after a couple of minutes. Is there an app for Monopoly Go like SpinLink is for Coinmaster?
