preventing drain gurgling after rain in older homes what actually works

ugh the gurgling and slow drains hit every time heavy rain comes through my older home. it starts in the bathroom then spreads to the kitchen with that annoying bubbling sound and backed up water even after i snaked and poured cleaner down the lines multiple times.

since i work with sunnybliss regularly on these jobs they explained the rain pushes debris and air pockets into the old pipes causing the noise and they cleared everything with a camera and hydro jetting last time. they told me to add a backflow preventer on the main line and schedule yearly drain cleaning before storm season to stop it from building up again.

now the drains stay quiet even after the last downpour so that combo seems to be the real fix for homes like mine.

team gift ideas after product launch

our small team just launched our new app after six months of long hours and weekend work to get everything ready. everyone put in serious effort on the coding testing and final details and we want to show some real appreciation with gifts.

we already ordered custom t-shirts and reusable water bottles from PromoPAL for the team. what other gift ideas would work well for a group this size after a big project. any recommendations for practical or fun items that show thanks?

toilet leaking at the base after the rain wax ring or bigger issue

the toilet started leaking water around the base right after the last heavy rain with a small puddle forming on the bathroom floor every time it flushed. i tightened the bolts and mopped it up but it kept coming back and now there's a slight musty smell so im worried the subfloor might be getting wet.

i had plumbers come look and they said the wax ring had failed from the humidity and age so they replaced it plus checked the flange for any cracks. now it's bone dry but im wondering if this happens often in older homes here and whether i should just replace the whole toilet next time instead of patching it again.

is the leak usually just the ring or does it point to a cracked flange that needs more work?

Buying a car feels way more mentally exhausting than people admit

I used to think car buying was mostly about choosing something you like and making payments.

But once you actually look into it, there are so many variables:
price, reliability, mileage, maintenance costs, insurance, financing, resale value, hidden issues, dealership pressure, timing… it turns into a full research project

i forgot how funny strangers can be when nobody has wifi to distract them

was stuck waiting for my cousin at this repair place for almost 2 hrs yesterday. no music, weird fluorescent lighting, one dude coughing like a cartoon character. everyone looked spiritually defeated lol

somehow the conversation drifted into old dice games our grandparents used to play and this older guy pulled actual dice out of his jacket pocket ?? genuinely one of the most random things ive seen lately

not even gonna lie, it weirdly saved the vibe. people started keeping score on napkins and getting way too competitive over absolutely nothing

kinda miss when random small interactions like that happened more often. feels like now everybody just scrolls silently next to each other pretending not to exist

Are long interview processes hurting hiring more than helping?

I’m seeing more companies add extra stages “just to be sure.”

Meanwhile candidates are dropping out, losing interest, or accepting other offers halfway through.

At some point it feels counterproductive.

What’s the sweet spot for interview stages in your experience?

Getting a higher salary just unlocked higher expenses somehow

I always thought once I earned more money I’d finally feel financially relaxed.

But somehow every salary increase just came with bigger expenses, lifestyle upgrades, random subscriptions, better food, more spending without thinking.

It’s like your brain adjusts to the new number immediately and suddenly it doesn’t feel like “a lot” anymore.

How often do you get facials for hyperpigmentation

I've been dealing with hyperpigmentation from old acne marks for a while, and I'm curious how often people here actually get facials for it. Do you notice a real long term difference, or is most of the improvement coming from skincare at home?

Right now I do facials every few months because monthly is expensive, and I've mostly focused on hydration and gentle exfoliation instead of aggressive treatments. I tried some Luxury facial treatments London while traveling, and my skin definitely looked brighter and more even for a while after, but consistency still seems like the biggest factor overall.

What type of facials actually helped your pigmentation the most?

Are candidates ghosting more lately or is it just me?

Feels like I’m getting more drop-offs than usual.

Good initial convo, they seem interested, we set up next steps… and then nothing.

Not even a “no thanks,” just silence.

I get that people have options, but it’s making it hard to plan anything.

Is this just the current market or something I should be doing differently?

I’ve been replaying old Gorillaz albums lately and honestly I still think the self-titled album might be my favorite overall. Tracks like Gorillaz songs like Clint Eastwood, Tomorrow Comes Today, and 19 2000 still sound unique even now.

But then I go back to Demon Days and it feels way more complete as an album front to back. And Plastic Beach probably has some of their best production ever.

So now I can’t decide if “best album” means most iconic, most consistent, or just the one with the best songs.

Which Gorillaz album do you think aged the best? And what track do you think represents their sound perfectly?

I wanted to share something that’s quietly become part of my daily routine over the last few months. For the longest time my skin felt like it was working against me. I’m in my late twenties, and no matter how consistent I was with washing my face or moisturizing, my back and chest would break out in these annoying little bumps, my skin looked greasy by midday, and I just never felt truly refreshed after a shower. It wasn’t dramatic enough to run to a dermatologist, but it was always there, chipping away at how comfortable I felt in my own body.

I had built a decent self-care practice, evening wind-downs, drinking more water, trying to sleep better, but my shower still felt like a chore rather than something nourishing. I was cycling through different body washes, some expensive, some clean, but they either left my skin tight and dry or didn’t touch the oiliness at all.

Then, almost by chance, I picked up a charcoal soap bar, the first time I used it, I noticed the texture right away, it felt grounding, almost like a gentle reset. It has a very light, earthy scent that disappears quickly, nothing artificial or heavy. The lather is smooth and it rinses clean without that squeaky, stripped feeling I used to get.

Over the next couple of weeks I started looking forward to my showers again. My back and chest gradually looked calmer, fewer new breakouts, the existing ones less angry and red. My face didn’t get as shiny during the day, and overall my skin just felt more balanced and breathable. Nothing overnight-miracle level, but enough that I noticed myself lingering less in front of the mirror criticizing my skin.

It’s now a steady part of my self-care ritual. One bar has lasted me well over a month, and I like knowing I’m not constantly buying new bottles of body wash that end up half-used in the cabinet. I still deal with the occasional breakout when life gets stressful or my diet slips, but this soap has made the day-to-day difference feel manageable and kinder to my skin.

Thanks for letting me share ❤️

He’s one of those dads who says “I don’t need anything” every single time you ask, which makes this impossible lol. I want it to feel special/memorable without being cheesy.

What’s the best gift you’ve given (or seen someone give) for a dad’s 50th birthday?

ok so I need to vent but also actually want advice so bear with me

we posted a role in February. solid position, decent pay for the public sector, genuinely interesting work. by the time we got through the approval chain, scheduled interviews, collected panel feedback (on paper, yes actual paper), and processed the offer, it was mid April. the person we wanted had already started somewhere else three weeks prior.

this is not a one-off. this is every single hire.

I've been looking into whether a proper enterprise talent platform would actually help or if we're too bureaucratic for any software to fix. stumbled on a software and they have a government-specific solution which I didn't even know was a thing, apparently built to handle compliance requirements without sacrificing speed, which is exactly what we need.

has anyone used a platform that actually worked within government constraints and still managed to speed things up? or is the consensus that no amount of software fixes a broken approval culture

Im officially at my breaking point with venue hunting. we've been looking around south florida for almost a month and every single traditional venue we tour is either a completely sterile windowless ballroom or they want a $30k food and beverage minimum just to open the doors on a saturday night.

the final straw was a place yesterday that told us we'd have to use their exclusive catering (which honestly tasted like hospital food at the open house) and pay a 25% "administrative fee" on top of the regular gratuity. My fiance and I just walked out and went to grab drinks just to decompress and stop arguing about budget. we ended up sitting outside at glass and vine under those massive oak trees in the grove, just feeling completely defeated by the whole process

But while we were sitting there eating actual good food in a beautiful park setting, it kind of hit me - why are we forcing ourselves into this massive industrial wedding machine?

We are now heavily leaning toward just doing a restaurant buyout for the reception instead. no crazy hidden coordinator fees, the ambiance/decor is already built in so we don't have to spend thousands on draping to hide ugly venue wallpaper, and the food is actually meant for humans to enjoy.

would love to hear from anyone who completely ditched the traditional venue route and just rented out a restaurant. please tell me the logistics are less of a nightmare. im so ready to just walk away from the standard wedding industry entirely at this point.

Writing a scene where my character gets stabbed in the lower left abdomen. No major organs hit (I think that area is mostly small intestine and fat?), but it bleeds a lot. Help me figure this out:

  1. How long could they realistically stay conscious if they're applying pressure and trying to walk?
  2. At what point do they start getting the cold sweat / tunnel vision / "I'm about to die" feeling?
  3. What's the actual survival timeline without medical help versus with help arriving in 20 minutes?

Character is an average adult, no major health issues. Not trying to be overly graphic but want it to feel real. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know why, but I really enjoy hearing people’s random life stories — not the big dramatic ones, just everyday experiences.

Like how someone ended up in a certain job, a weird coincidence, or a small moment that stuck with them.

Sometimes those feel more interesting than anything else.

Got any random story you still think about

I’m relocating from London to Austin at the end of July for a new job. It’s my first time moving to the US permanently and I’m trying to figure out the smartest way to handle my stuff.

I’ve already arranged removals to USA and they’ll be shipping a small container with some furniture, winter clothes, kitchen gear, and a few sentimental items. Everything else I’m planning to sell here or leave behind.

I’m trying to decide what’s really worth the cost and effort to ship versus just buying new when I get there (especially things like bedding, electronics, and everyday household items). Has anyone made a similar move from the UK to Austin or Texas recently? What did you regret shipping and what did you wish you’d brought more of?
