Geena Davis and Madonna from A League of Their Own 1992 and Coachella 2026

This guy is my favorite M reactor, I feel like he sincerely gets her

I find his reactions very genuine. To me Madonna reactions are like a good musical or horror movie or slasher movie. You’re just sort of waiting for that big kick and if you’re familiar with the kick, then watching somebody who is not kind of lets you relive it through them again. To me, I relive a good Madonna reaction through my own naive introductions to her and it’s always fun to see an new reaction

Masters of the Universe

I most certainly did NOT grow watching He Man, although i blasted Madonna on my little green he man boombox I’m sure my brother picked for me. HE was the one who LOVED He Man. He had the green castle playset and the action figures and loved the cartoon. Me, not so much. I did use his green castle to play Slasher Movie with any dolll or action figure I could find. When the original movie came out we got to rent it with (my pick) Who’s That Girl? and I ended up loving Masters of the Universe 87 and I’m sure gorgeous Dolph Lundgren (who I recognized from Rocky IV: Rocky goes Flashdance With Musical Montages) had a lot to do with that. Plus it was just a fun movie for a 7 yr old.

So, on a whim, I decided to watch the new one since I saw it was free on Amazon. HOLY shit this opening just about grabbed me by the neck and blew me away. The opening music helped A Lot! It was so shamelessly bombastic and gloriously OTT. The whole opening sucked me in and made me get so engaged. I can see how this wouldn’t catch on, but I can’t wait to finish watching it: I actually had to stop after the opening just to write this. I finished it and I think it definitely deserved a bigger theatrical life. It was just a lot of fun and even though I know it only spawned from an excuse to sell toys, it still felt less cynical than a lot of recent blockbusters based on pre existing media

Most bonkers batshitcrazy campy slasher ?

1981’s Happy Birthday to Me gets my vote. It goes so gleefully off the the rails in the last third

“Would you excuse me? I cut my foot before and my shoe is filling up with blood." Can you guess the movie by this quote?

1997 Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is one of my favorite movies. I think its quotability factor is up there with Addams Family Values and Wayne’s World.

What is your fave quote, quip, moment ?

Falling Free from MDNA

I always thought this was best album art and title. And, although the finished product didn’t live up to either for me, Falling Free is my second (after Secret Garden) favorite album closer

The Life and Loves of a She-Devil (1986)

This one was so bizarre but so entertaining and nothing at all like the Meryl Streep Roseanne remakes even though they both follow almost all the same plot points

Kind of makes me mad that a remake of this miniseries starring Roseanne and Steep could’ve been way better

Why didn’t Dolores Claiborne connect?

I had practically bought my ticket halfway through watching this trailer for the first time. It was listed the EW fall movie preview issue as slated to come out in Dec of 94 then I got pushed back to March 95, either way when it came out I tagged along with my older brother and sisinlaw who were watching Tommy Boy. I was blown away, and the auditorium was mostly filled with (def not sold out) a crowd that absolutely understood the material and reacted accordingly, it was a good experience but Dolores Claiborne never caught on. Even now it’s not even considered a cult classic. It’s so well made, effective, and moving. Why has it been so neglected or passed over?

Okay, I was schooled that Madonna’s “Secret Garden” was not triphop, is “I Deserve It” more or less triphop related?

To me, it’s very Air who were big when the came out.

HOT TAKE: Cape Fear is way more disturbing than Silence of the Lambs and possibly even Seven

In 1987 onward my parents decided the only cable box should be in the bedroom my 8 yr old self shared with my 11yr old brother. I think it was because of Disney Channel but they were also giving us HBO. I watched a lot shit I shouldn’t’ve either at my local one screen theater, cable, or one of the many video stores (basically wherever we didn’t have late fees) in town. But when I rented this video and watched it alone (my brothers were out and my parents had no internet even with Robert DeNiro, which I thought they’d like since they love the godfather) in my room (probably while eating) this scene with Illeana Douglas just took me the fuck out. I didn’t rewind it but I def paused it when it was over. I had to catch my 11 yr old breath. I remember my brother came home just as it was ending and I told how much the ending (his babbling as as he goes down with ship) freaked me out and he wa like “oh yeah, when he’s dying and he still won’t shut up? That freak you out?haha” so comforting

Heathers (1988)

Still controversial to this day. Newer generations generally find it offensive and off putting and it seems a lot of the humor is missed. Suicide, SA, eating disorders, school terrorism, bullying, homophobia are still topical issues but this movie doesn’t exploit theme, it shines a light on them. I personally don’t find the movie offensive or controversial because I feel the movie is critical not only of these issues, but of opportunists riding the coattails of tragedy for their own personal gain. It’s a little crude and vulgar but it’s ultimately pretty sensitive. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097493/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
