Played ARNO for the first time yesterday and had some doubt about a ruling during break upkeep.
Rule says ARNO buys 3 cards and plays the first animal card.
Does that mean I need to add the Appeal points for ARNO or just play in case it triggers some of my cards?
Got into the hobby in November 25.
Got quickly addicted to Arkham Horror and I am sure it is the peak boardgame and no other game will top it ever.
But I have decided to try other game styles and mechanisms.
What games am I missing here?
I really like engine building and deckbuilding but I feel like I already have enough of those.
Also have some other smaller PnP games like Sprawlopolis and Dragons of Etchinstone and Galdors Grip.
(SETI and Spirit Island already pre-ordered for the next prints in Brazil)
Was cleaning my shelves and decided to take a photo of my complete collection and it got me wondering what mechanism/genre am I missing here?
Into the hobby since November 25, recently picked up Ark Nova to fill the heavier Euro spot and SETI is already pre-ordered. Also Spirit Island is on the way. This filled up the last genre I was really wanting to try.
I am learning I really like tableau and engine building and deck building/construction. Bag building is fun too.
From my research I was really drawn to Garphil games and some euros like that, and tableau builders like Earth (why are nature themed tableau builders so fun?) but I feel like I already got those styles covered and would like to branch out before going deep into one style or another, Arkham Horror notwithstanding
I was looking for a deckbuilder easier to get to the table than Slay the Spire and Unstoppable was THE recommended game everywhere.
Of course I lost my first game. At round 5 or 6 I ran out of cards and just kept getting hit.
I can see myself obssessing over getting good at this game.
Though only 3 bosses and 4 heroes seem like too little
Yes I am playing on the floor. Cold day was asking for it.
Played the regular solo version starting with 20 Attractiveness points. Won by the skin of my teeth but I won.
Started playing for Primate icons but had to pivot for Research Icons a bit to get a few extra points.
I heard about this ARNO solo mode, how does it differ from regular?

Been following Totally Tabled for a long time and this is one of the most praised solo games by him.
Had my eyes on it for a long time but it is not available in Brazil.
At least until last week when I saw it on Amazon as an international purchase and I jumped on it immediatly.
I just played one game but I can already understand why he praises it so much

I am addicted to Arkham Horror LCG and its what I play 90% of the time but sometimes I am just not in the mood.
I recently got Sky Team and Wingspan to play with my girlfriend and Wingspan triggered something in me and I want more of it.
I really enjoyed the strategy involved and placing action cubes to get resources so I could make future actions and making my birds work together to my board generate more resources and points
Not sure if that's what euros are but I really liked that.
Would be fine playing more of it solo, but I would like save it to only play with my gf so both of us get better at the game at the same pace, so I am looking for other heavier crunchier games
I was looking into Voidfall or Gaia Project, just not too sure if fits on my table.
Dune Imperium looked a bit bland from the gameplay video I saw (for solo at least) and Brass I have no idea how solo plays. SETI not available in Brazil.
Not limiting myself to Euros but that the genre I associate with heavier games. Open to any recommendations since the availability in Brazil is kinda bad.

Just finished the book like 20 minutes ago and I am still trying to figure out my opinion on it.
Like the whole concept of the book as super interesting to me. Picked it up after reading Lovecraft and wishing for more weird cosmic horror type stories.
The opening got me hooked instantly. I could not drop it down for like 4 hours that day. Story was going strong, the short stories inside the main story were great SCP-esque horror stories.
But then the ending lost me for a bit. Didnt get back to it for 2 or 3 weeks.
And what was that ending? Feels like the author got bored in their own story and rushed the ending just to deliver to the publisher.
What feels weird is that the author is great at explaining unexplainable things and concepts. And I feel like they could have explored the final showdown in a much more satifying way.
Still super happy to have read it, absolutely my kind of book, but sad that it was on its way to be one of my top 5 books, and it ended just like an average time killer book
Have yoy guys read it? What are your thoughts on it?
Started getting into board games with Unlock (gifte to my sister) as a simple date night idea with my girlfriend.
Before even playing it once I did as I always do with new hobbies and hiperfocused on researching and wathcing videos about it and quickly picked up Marvel United and Final Girl. FG specially because I knew my GF wouldnt want to play everytime I did so I wanted something for solo.
Soon after that I kept seeing Arkham Horror being mentioned in top 10 lists and such so I pick the core box to give it a go. I quickly became addicted and now it is basically the only thing I am playing. I did not know at the time that a chapter 2 was coming out.
Now I am picking up everything I can find and afford before it disappears and I plan on sticking with it through chapter 2, despite all the hate going around.
As far as my collection goes, for myself, I do want to try an euro, maybe SETI or Voidfall or Wingspan or any other honestly but they are really expensive and table hogs and since I play solo 95% of the time and have a really small table, I am not sure it is for me.
For my girlfriend, she really likes the Azul/Harmonies type games where you need to build your board (not sure it it has a genre name) so out next purchase is going to be Calico, this weekend.
And we are looking into Sky Team and Everdell for playing together.
I am open to any feedback and suggestions for what I could add to my collection or stuff that could be fun with the girlfriend.
And if anyone wonders, the octopus skull is a auto chaos token dispenser for Arkham Horror that I designed. Pretty proud of that honestly.
