For better or worse, have you become like your parents?

Many if not most of us have lost our parents by now. Whether growing up alongside them, or as caregivers, you noticed/ laughed at their idiosyncrasies and habits.

Now at this stage in life, do you see a little bit (or lot), of them in present you?

What procedure or service do you wish was covered by healthcare?

I love that we have free universal healthcare in Canada. Until, I find out the procedure is not covered by my provincial plan.
Yes, I know it’s expensive and including more services only adds to the cost.
But, what would you like to see included that currently isn’t covered?

Any single folks among us?

Whether by choice, or perhaps widowed or divorced. If so, how are you managing life and coping without a partner?

At our age, it can be a difficult time for some making new friends and dealing with loneliness. Travelling can be liberating yet also challenging if you get sick.

So tell us how you’re doing.

Edit: added divorced

Have you tried Ranger Archival Ink on fabric?

I’ve seen some YouTube shorts where people are stamping their blocks onto bits of fabric using ink pads.

But my understanding is that it’s not very thick and creates a more transparent look.

I’m looking to create a vintage look on a tshirt and this might look might work.
I’m curious if anyone has used these inks in this application and how the ink held up after washing.

Professional golf lessons in Hua Hin?

I've played golf for many decades, but never took proper lessons. I usually shoot around 100 but would love to bring that down to 90.

Obviously playing more regularly would help. I'm thinking of spending a month in Hua Hin, and perhaps get lessons and play more rounds.

Is there a big golfing expat community in Hua Hin? Are there good courses with reasonable rates?

How do you spot a Canadian abroad?

Do we have any stereotypical traits (perhaps self deprecating ones), that make us stand out. We’re typically not loud (but some can be). Perhaps frugal?

What have you seen in your travels that make you think, those folks must be Canadian!

How do Canadians cook their corn on a cob?

Do you boil, microwave, grill or other? Just salt, butter or additional spices?

Do different regions of our country prefer a certain method?

Are there fabric inks in CMYK?

I come from a traditional print background where CMYK is used to make colours. Percentages are used to create Pantone colours.

All the fabric (and even non-fabric) inks in block printing are random hues (eg. Red, blue ) that make it difficult to create a specific colour except by trial and error.

Are there any matching systems or CMYK inks with ink manufacturer or is this just the way it is?

How do you feel about healthcare for 'convenient' Canadians?

I know of a few Canadians (by birth) who moved to the US in their 20's and have worked practically all of their adult life in the US. They had full residency in the States, and paid taxes there.

However, with dual citizenship, they have decided to return now to Canada as they approach retirement. Some have reasoned, their dislike for the Trump administration and where the US is headed. Others have said healthcare was the biggest reason.

I have no issue with those who have lived, worked here and paid taxes. But there's something wrong about supporting Canadians who haven't paid a cent in taxes but conveniently run back here when they need medical assistance. We have enough challenges providing healthcare for Canadians who live and pay taxes here.

Am I wrong? Thoughts?

Are you part of a run club?

As we know, many clubs are geared to mostly younger runners. I was in one back in my 30’s.

Today, we are sort of rare unicorns as there are fewer older people still running in their 60s.

I’m curious if you belong to a run club that is specific to seniors, or all-age, or just run alone.

What brands have you stuck with after all these years?

Perhaps because you like the product or maybe out of habit. It could be Levis jeans or Heinz Ketchup.

For me it’s been Apple. This of course was way back in 1984 before they became big. Well, I’ve stuck with them to this very day. I just wish I had purchase Apple stock back then!!

What brand have you stuck with over the years?

Was the cost of a financial retirement planner worth it?

I’ve been looking at these cost for fee only type retirement planners.

As a solo person it’s approximately $3K to $5K depending on the complexity of the plan. While it’s not cheap, it’s seems like a necessary procedure to ensure you can retire with enough funds.

I’m hoping to hear how those who used one and their experience. Was it worth it in the end and did it give you peace of mind?

Do you have your windows closed tonight?

The humidity has dropped and there’s actually a slight breeze.

I’d love to cool off my apartment from the heat we’ve had the past few days. That said, the air probably isn’t so good.

Do health experts suggest closing windows?

Anyone else’s files disappear?

I don’t use Fresco on iPad very often, but when I opened the app yesterday, all my files are gone.

I don’t see them anywhere on Creative Cloud either.

Was there an update or some new version that may have affected my stored files?

Have leg workouts (weights) improved your running?

While, I’ve been running for years, I have never really employed weighted squats or leg extensions in my training.

I’ve really just stuck to varying types of runs such as interval, and long runs.

I’m wondering, if weight training has improved your running strength, especially in the latter parts of a half marathon or full marathon.

Any tips for planning a 3 month stay?

I spent 2 weeks in Chiang Mai and 2 days in BK a few years ago. It was fantastic, but certainly not enough to give me a truer sense of what longer term living would be like.

So this year, I'm looking to do a trial run of spending 3-4 months in SE Asia during the winter months in Canada.

So perhaps January to the end of April. I'll likely use Thailand as my home base and spend at least 2 months (or 3 with extension). I may spend some time in Vietnam and end with a month in Japan.

I plan to book one week at a hotel and explore on the ground for longer term accommodations while there. I know it's usually 1 year contracts, and 3 month stays are challenging to find.

I'm curious for those who may have done something similar, I'd love to hear any tips or suggestions. For instance, did booking a flight 6 months in advance save you money?

Returning M5 MBA purchased before price hike, for iPad Air.

Placed an order last week ahead of the price bump.

But I’ve decided to return it when it arrives for pickup at my Staples. Despite the ‘savings’ it’s not really a need, but a want and frankly a case of FOMO.

I know it’ll be more expensive when I do actually need one (probably in a year or two).

And I’m probably in the minority, but I’m eyeing a discounted M3 13” iPad Air instead as my use case is more basic productivity apps and a few graphic apps that utilize the Apple Pencil.

Curious if anyone else has gone this route.

How are you staying cool today?

If you don’t have AC, the places open today are limited.

Libraries are typically ideal to cool down, but obviously not open with the holiday.

Open malls are limited to a few in the GTA.

Don’t know if the city has cooling centres open on a holiday.

Will soccer be more popular than hockey in Canada?

Some might argue it already is. New and older immigrants to the country have grown it's popularity. Add to that, Canada's national teams growing success.

And given how expensive hockey is to equip kids, soccer is much more affordable and manageable for many families.

As a result, will Canada perhaps grow to be a soccer powerhouse in the future?
