About to be in this category very soon - would appreciate a ladies input.

52M here.
So in about a week I’ll be moving out of the home as part of an amicable separation (divorce is a formality that takes a year due to North Carolina law). We probably should have done this a few years ago, so while clearly not without baggage, I think I’m mentally ready to meet for coffee should things align with the right person.

I have 2 boys and 50/50 custody. I will be renting a 3 bed townhome for a year as I get a long term solution sorted out.

I’m currently looking at furniture etc. as I am not splitting what we have with my ex as I simply don’t like her tastes and she had full control of decorating the house. So I’m kinda starting from scratch.

What I would like input on is the furniture itself just in case some lightning strikes and a lady decides she wants to come back to my place.

Note: the rental has hardwoods and kitchen cabinets and tiles, the colour of which I would never have chosen.

I have a couple of paths I can take -

  1. Cheap wayfair / ikea stuff that will last me the year but kinda matches the house
  2. More sturdy and long lasting sofas and dining sets etc that fit my personal preference but which likely will look out of place in this house

I don’t want to scare anyone away due to them thinking I am an interior design psychopath…. It’s been a long time since things were good, and I know the dating pool is shrinking.

I’d love some thoughts.
Thank you in advance.

How to recreate this experience at home in USA.

Hi folks. I am moving to a new house soon and am looking at my kitchen upgrades wish list - and I would love to recreate this experience I had in Osaka a few years back. Specifically I’m looking for advice on the grill unit itself and setting it up for occasional use.

It was a wonderful trip and the food was one of the highlight. I love the idea of cooking at the table as it is interactive with your fellow diners etc.

I forget if the restaurant had an extractor above the table… but would anyone be able to guide me on the best way to recreate this at home without smoking out the house.

Or is this a case of patio only ?

Thank you !

Cost of living - Raleigh NC - looking for a check on estimates for budget

Folks. My living situation is rapidly changing and I’m making a budget for what is about to happen.

I am building a budget for the next 18 months - for renting a 3 bedroom townhome in Raleigh NC, one adult and 2 kids (boys age 10 and 15) for 50% of the time.

I asked Claude AI for “reasonable estimates for standard monthly costs” as a starting point for the mathematics. This is what I got back. And it seems off…. Groceries for $600 just seems low (or I dont know how to shop efficiently.. a real possibility) — there are other things in my budget model of course… but I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on these specifically, as i have a better handle / more clarity on the other stuff. .

Thank you in advance

Just hit Lvl 8 as a Barbarian with Werewolf free archetype since lvl 2. Thinking of switching to Rogue now. Would love thoughts.

My animal instinct barbarian has werewolf as the free archetype and is built around high land speed/raging athlete, stealth, intimidation, and heavy damage biting with jaws (the jaws have potency runes etc.). Currently unarmored as it fits the character backstory etc.

I think the werewolf options at 8 are getting thin, so considering swapping free archetype to Rogue. The thought being sneak attack and also “mobility” so i can step away without triggering reactive strikes. My movement when raging is 60ft, so i can step away 30ft… basically vs a melee: charge in > bite the baddies face > move out of range. (Cant hurt what you cannot hit.. right?)

But I cannot add Mobility until lvl 10 and that may be near when the campaign wraps up. (Thats just an estimate).

I know Rogue is a very solid choice for a lot of other reasons, but I wanted to see if anyone thought there might be more impactful archetype options to cover lvls 8,9, 10.

Note: The party is fairly balanced, so there isnt a push to diversify too far from damage dealing.

Thanks.

▲ 18 r/trans

Need advice from younger trans / trans curious folks - I’m a parent and I dont know how to open up the conversation with my 15yr old child.

Please forgive any missteps on my part with any incorrectly used terms - my intentions are good. I’m using “current” gender terms for simplicity and consistency.

I have overheard my son saying to a school friend that he “wants to be a girl, and will you help”. He has also worn makeup and taken my wife’s cloths to wear at times, so there is definitely something going on. However he hasn’t said anything to us, his parents.

I am aware of some of the challenges that exist in society (USA) today for a child like mine, but I’m no expert and I don’t have anyone in my social network that has first hand experience here. But I do love my child and want the best for them.

For those that have had a similar experience can I ask please, when the subject came up with your parents, what went well, what was the context, what worked and what didn’t work. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

Help please - new “feature” ..? But I cannot print. Seems to be hung up on something and I’m stumped.

I have a flashforge adventure 5M and I use OrcaSlicer. For the past few months, since we bought it new, it has worked flawlessly. It is ours first and only 3d printer.

Today i updated the orcaslicer version.

Now when i send something to print, i see a new icon/graphic below the image of the object i want to print (the 3 squares and arrow), and when i press it it opens a new screen with a closer look at the individual items in the print. You can then press items and they change colour. Thats all i can do with this feature anyway.

I cannot say if that is the issue, or it is an unrelated but coincidental thing as part of the orcaslicer software update. But the issue is the job “hangs” at 0% while “printing” after doing some of the warm up / cool down, print a 2 inch line stuff that all jobs seem to start with.

I’m a pretty basic person, so I’ve not messed with any settings and until today it has worked fine. But with 3 different jobs today sent to the printer, all of them have the same issue..just “printing” but staying at 0%.

Can anyone help please? I assume it is to do to with the orcaslicer update… but i cannot figure it out.
Thank you.

Title: Why is internal AI implementation treated differently than major systems integration? (Perspective from an Ops Leader)

**TL;DR:** I have 10+ years of experience managing heavy, cross-functional transformations (M&A integration, CRM rollouts, carve-outs) in the SaaS and PE space. Recently, recruiters are treating internal AI tool implementation as a completely alien skill set, rendering traditional systems integration experience "irrelevant." Is an operational AI implementation genuinely distinct from a major ERP/CRM rollout, or am I hitting a recruiter buzzword wall?

**The Long Version:**
I am looking to return to full-time work in the SaaS space. I have over 10 years of experience working in privately owned software/tech companies, largely as a Chief of Staff to the CEO or in "Strategic Projects" roles. My sweet spot is managing transformational, cross-functional projects that don’t naturally have a single functional owner; integrating an acquired company, managing a complex system implementation, developing market expansion strategies, or carving out a business unit and relocating it across the country.

A few years ago, I moved to a consulting role with a small PE firm to oversee these transformations across a portfolio of companies. The plan was to transition to a full-time operating partner role once they raised their next fund. Unfortunately, the fundraise fell through, leaving me operating under my own single-person LLC.
While I have highly repeatable operational skills, independent consulting has been a grind, and I am looking to step back into a full-time corporate strategy/ops role.

**The Challenge:**
In the time I’ve been independent, the AI landscape has exploded. Because I’ve been operating solo, I haven’t been embedded in a corporate environment to witness enterprise-level internal AI tool deployments firsthand, nor am I sitting in boardroom product roadmap discussions. At a high level, I know how the technology applies to operational efficiency; making sense of massive pools of unstructured data, or injecting LLMs into workflows to act as intelligent gatekeepers.

Lately, I’ve been having networking and pipeline calls with executive search firms and internal PE talent teams. I am consistently hit with a common set of questions:
·       *What have you done with AI?*
·       *Where have you implemented an AI tool internally, and what was the operational impact?*
*(Note: They are strictly referring to internal operational efficiency tools, not client-facing product features).*

My most relevant corporate experience here was a large scale project where we utilized a machine learning algorithm for predictive modeling to optimize sales targeting. The outcome was awesome: we identified a sizable customer subset that produced 4x the average contract value in half the normal sales cycle.

**My Perspective:**
At the executive/ops level, a net-new enterprise AI deployment shares the same delivery architecture as a major CRM, ERP, or performance management system migration. You define the business case, map the unstructured data dependencies, select the implementation partner or vendor, manage scope, track the budget, and measure ROI. The technical heavy lifting belongs to the engineers and data scientists; the operational guardrails, change management, and project execution belong to me, the operator.

To me, a complex project is a complex project: we are at point A, we want to get to point B, now let’s design the path and manage the build.

**My Questions for the Community:**
1.     **Am I cooked?** Has the AI train left the station to the point where lacking a specific "AI implementation" line item on my resume will permanently block me from rejoining a SaaS org at the leadership level?
2.     **Are people inflating this?** Are candidates using AI terminology overly generously to their advantage, and do I just need to adopt more favorable language on my resume to beat the filters?
3.     **Is an AI tool implementation genuinely unique?** Is there a foundational difference in managing an AI deployment versus a legacy tech stack integration that I am completely missing? If so, what do I need to learn to bridge the gap?
4.     **How do I reposition this?** What is an honest, authoritative answer to these recruiter questions that validates their focus but keeps my resume out of the rejection pile?

I’ve saved companies millions of dollars through operational improvements, and I'm not ready to throw in the towel. I would love to hear candid feedback from hiring managers, recruiters, and fellow operators.
Thank you for reading.

What day do you swap custody of the kids ? Pros and Cons ?

We haven’t gotten too far down the path of separation/divorce but it is inevitable. So working through a lot of things, but it got me thinking what day we should set as the swap/pickup/drop-off day.

I know we’ll need to be flexible at times but interested in hearing the pros and cons of say a Monday vs a Friday etc.

Context - US based, 2 kids: starting 9th grade and 4th grade in August.

Thanks.

“Motivating” an autistic child to participate in school activities…

So my 3rd grade son is mildly autistic with ADHD (inattentive type). He is intelligent also (has both an IEP at his school, and is also in the academically gifted program). A great kid.

We get the standard weekly reports from his teacher - and the “stays focused” and “uses materials appropriately” rows are often unchecked. I’m assuming that if the topic being discussed isn’t interesting to my child at that moment he just disengages and fiddles with whatever is around. This can be a bit disruptive to the lesson.

I would love to hear other parents who’ve successfully navigated the challenge of getting their child to “just do it”.

We’ve tried with mixed results by telling him “not everything in life is interesting, but some of the boring stuff is legitimately helpful, so just stay engaged and if the teacher gives a good report for engagement / fiddling we’ll go get an ice cream”.

Would also love to hear what didn’t work.

Thank you all.

Ways to increase AC ? - unarmored / unarmed animal barbarian

some details:
level 7 Barbarian (animal instinct:wolf)
ancenstry Skeleton (monstrous skeleton)
free architype @lvl 2: Werecreature: werewolf

note: this may appear overlapping/redundant but this is the outcome of being brought back to life after dying at lvl 4, and is very on point from a character creation / settings standpoint.

Primary weapon: jaws (with both striking and potency runes) - so I’m unarmed.
Armor - explorers clothing (currently no runes) - so I’m unarmoured.

At the moment, these are a deliberate choice for flavour. At lvl 8 I am strongly considering adjusting to bring in Rogue Dedication for my free architype (with one goal being to get “mobility” as soon as I can so I can disengage after attacking without triggering a reactive strike - but this looks like it will only happen at lvl 10). I will also take Animal Skin when i get to lvl 8.

So I’ve been getting smashed quite a bit in recent fights - and I’m aware that my role as barbarian is to be a “big bag of hitpoints” and that every hit I ake is a hit our bard/wiz/investigator isnt takeing so I’m good with all that. My issue is my AC.

I seem to have chosen a themeatic “flavour” for a character that simply isnt tank-y, and so I get crits a bit easier than the plate wearing hellknight, and I drop to zero or near zero about 1 in every 3 or 4 enconters.

I’ve been looking at ways to augment my AC - and recently looked at this video. It got me thinking - I should make a list and then ask this community to see what I’m missing.

https://youtu.be/oCVEk8UlCkg

Things I need to look into / would like feedback on:

  1. Drakeheart Mutagen (Moderate) - should I be asking our team alchemst to be making a bunch of this every day ? Are there AC potions ?
  2. Shield Salve ? I just learned of this in the video…
  3. armor runes - I gotta get me some !
  4. Monk dedication at lvl 8 for some of the stances? vs Rogue… (rogue feels more fitting to the character and has a ton of other utility.. and I dont think I can monk-punch with my teeth…)
  5. We have a bard in the group - we seem to get Couragious Anthem everytime.. but would love to ask her to expand her playlist.
  6. we dont have a cleric or champion - basically all Divine spells are off the table - this is a campaign limitation
  7. Aeon Stone (Dusty Rose Prism) ? (note: I already have the Pearly White Spindle which is very helpful with me being undead as most heal spells dont work on undead)
  8. Other party members: Wiz, Psych, Bard, Alchemist/gunslinger, investigator.

Any other Armor Class suggestions (not including re-rolling a guardian) are welcome !

Thanks !

Wake County School - EOG (end of grade) test: “Guidance for Retesting” — would like help understanding

My 3d grader is in a Wake country public school - and has come home with a letter that talks about the EOG tests, which are coming up in a week or two.

His test scores are generally good. (Over 70% for both reading and maths)

The text in the letter (see pic, and also cut/paste of the wording below) is somewhat confusing to me. He will almost certainly score above 35%.

“Scores above 35% correct: If your child scores above 35% correct on the assessments listed above, we recommend that you consider opting them in to retake the EOG. Retakes can significantly increase the number of students who demonstrate proficiency.”

My question: Why is there a push to retake regardless of the score. I understand why a child with challenges may benefit from a second chance. But I’m not clear why they suggest all kids over 35% also retake? Is there a true benefit to the child? Or is there a behind the scene issue with school scores/funding etc. that is incentivizing the schools to “get better scores”. Am I just a skeptic who needs to switch to decaf ?

Any guidance is welcome, particularly from anyone inside the public school system.

Thank you

Camera ID help - pickled up in estate sale

Hello folks, wife brought this home yesterday as a left-over from an estate sale (basically saving it from being junked) as our young son recently took an interest in cameras and photography.

My personally knowledge only goes back to ~ 1999 with my old cannon SLR, so I’m stumped. I’d love to find a user manual so I can explain to my son how this thing worked (aperture, focal length etc.) and what the knobs and levers do.

The red dot seems to be an oil level - it has a bubble in it… and the small lens next to it may be missing a mirror on the angled part as I cannot make sense of it unless there was one there at some point.

Any help our guidance would be appreciated -thank you.

Secondary request - is it “interesting but generally worthless” or a gem thats worth restoring ?

Cheers !

So I’m playing around with a concept for a sneaky rogue that likes to move about unseen in the shadows etc. so the Shadowcaster dedication seemed to be on point. I’m messing around with a lvl 7 character at this time FYI.

As a prerequisite to shadowcaster the character needs to have “the ability to cast spells” – so I’ve gone with Goblin ancestry, with Dokkaebi as the heritage:

Your ancestors mastered illusion-based magic, giving you an innate understanding of it. You can cast figment as an innate occult cantrip at will. A cantrip is heightened to a spell rank equal to half your level rounded up. You also gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Will saves against illusions.

Pathbuilder seems to have accepted this build: and I can see the inscrutable mask spell and focus point in my spell repertoire when I took Disciple of Shade at lvl 6.

Disciple Of Shade

6

Archetype

Prerequisites Shadowcaster Dedication

* *

You've delved deeper into the mysteries of shadow and become blessed with magical power that increases your skills in the arts of deception and persuasion. You gain the inscrutable mask domain spell. Increase the number of Focus Points in your focus pool by 1.

SoM

However I also took Shadow Spells feat at lvl 2, but I do not see any of the spells listed below anywhere, not do I see any empty slots for me to fill.

Shadow Spells

4

Archetype

Prerequisites Shadowcaster Dedication

* *

Hidden darkness whispers to you, teaching you secrets of shadow beyond other spellcasters of your tradition. Add shadow blast, shadow siphon, and shadow walk from the Core Rulebook to your spell list, as well as replicate, shadow army, shadow projectile, and shadow raid from this book. You can thus potentially learn these spells even if they aren't normally on your tradition's spell list.

SoM

So, can anyone shine some light on this (ba-dum-tis)?      I’m probably doing something wrong – this is my first attempt at a caster build of any sort.

Thank you !

https://concord-cookware.com/products/stainless-steel-stronghold-wok-burner-16

Is is generally a) legal and b) safe to install one of these in your house if you want to have the capability of a powerful gas burner but all the houses in your area are only outfitted for electric stovetops etc ?

I love cooking with a Wok and generally find gas easier to control for heat etc. but a full install of a gas stovetop can be $ thousands of dollars…

So wanted to scope out alternatives and thought this community would have folks with experience.

Thank you.
