We’ve been working on our urban survival game Not Today: Homeless Survival and the Steam page went live recently.
The core loop is a race against time: you have 30 days to save enough money to escape the streets before a massive, deadly blizzard hits the city.
We really wanted to capture the harsh realities of being homeless. It’s not just about finding food and money—you also have to deal with sudden illnesses, constant insults, and the public humiliation.
You'll face also constant moral dilemmas. The main question is: will you try to survive through legal, honest means, or will desperation push you to the dark side? Every choice you make comes with consequences.
The game is still in active development, but the Steam page is officially live for wishlists. We also have a cool trailer up there if you want to check it out.

I’m a solo dev currently working on a solo survival game built entirely in Unreal Engine using premade assets. The coding, and mechanics are functional and the game is fully playable, which I'm really proud of!
Yesterday I posted a short, unfinished gameplay online as a meme, and my animations got absolutely roasted. I was told they looked like "pudding" and "UE5 slop".
To be fair, they were completely right. I’m a programmer, not an animator, and I’ve been heavily relying on premade assets and my own amateur tweaks.
This roasting made me realize: maybe I start looking to team up with someone who actually loves animating and wants to bring these characters to life. I'm offering a fair RevShare agreement for the right person.

I posted this meme video of my unfinished game on Instagram for some early marketing, and it got roasted so bad. People completely tore the animations apart in the comments (I´m still developing). I was told my animations looked like "pudding" and "UE5 slop"
But here is the crazy part: despite the roasting, it brought me 20 organic wishlists from 10K views! And this without a direct clickable link. I think the concept itself has been getting really good feedback and the good thing is, now I know exactly what my weakest link is and that I need to focus more on the animations. I'm a solo developer and much more of a programmer (handling all the logic through Blueprints). So I´m now I´m using assets as I`m trying to learn a little bit animation myself. But with zero budget it's not easy to just team up with an animator. So I guess my only option is to learn and fix it myself.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of brutal feedback early on? My questions is, this "bad" marketing actually worth it in the long run? I´m questioning if I should wait a little bit before I post more videos on socials or I should try more to find an animator?

The idea itself has been getting really good feedback. I recently shared my trailer and Steam page on another subreddit, and the response was incredibly positive and encouraging and the game just crossed 100 wishlists in a very short amount of time.

That brutal roasting made me realize: maybe I shouldn't stretch myself so thin trying to do something I'm clearly bad at, and instead try my luck finding someone who actually loves animating.
I know finding an animator with a $0 upfront budget is a huge long shot. But I'm hoping there might be a solo animator out there who is exactly in my shoes—someone who wants to build their portfolio, gain hands-on experience, and have a fully playable, releasing Steam game with an active wishlist base on their CV. In return, we would agree on a fair RevShare percentage from the game's future earnings.

I genuinely can't understand what triggered them so much. It's literally just an urban homeless survival game. Sure there is some dialogue in it like the one shown in the picture but nothing illegal.
Good thing I live in Germany lol.
