Need some advice on a situation I'm currently stuck in. AM I the troublemaker here? 30M, 30F & 31M

Okay, so I'm (30M) stuck in a bit of a weird situation since yesterday and I'm confused as to what to do as I don't know if I'm the troublemaker here or not.

My friend, let's call him Sam, a 31 M year old guy and he is in a relationship for the past 4 years. He has a friend, let's call her Ash, 31 F and although they were never in a relationship but they have had their moments when they were in college. He had mentioned about Ash a couple of times to me but nor Ash or I have ever met each other in person nor have we ever interacted on social media till date. I had seen Ash's picture once a couple of years back when her profile came on my suggestion list in Instagram but I never sent her a request or anything like that.

The day before yesterday, I came across a profile on a dating app and I had replied to a prompt on her profile and we matched and started talking. After a certain time when she mentioned about her hometown and her college, I put 2+2 together and realised and asked her if she's Ash and she confirmed that. I also mentioned that I'm Sam's friend and she was happy to hear that. Please note that in this dating app, only the first word of the name was shown in the profile, so I had no way to know her actual name before matching.

As she happens to be a friend of Sam, whom I do consider my closest friend, I thought it would be basis courtesy to inform him about the fact that I had matched with her old friend. At present, they are not in contact by the way. My friend Sam upon hearing that we had matched got pretty upset and disappointed and told me that he doesn't mind me talking to her but he doesn't want me to date her as they have had a 'deep friendship' which may have involved a fling. He also cited 'bro code' but I'm unsure as to how that applies here as they have never been any sort of relationship before and most importantly they aren't even in contact and he's in a relationship now as we speak.

I'm genuinely confused now as what to do here as Ash from the looks of it seems to be pretty interested in talking to me and knowing about me. I'm confused as to how to navigate this situation. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

AMA - 30M from Kolkata, India. Ask me anything

Hello guys, I have been active in this subreddit for some time and I wanted to post something for a long time as a result. As it's Tuesday, I thought it's better to do an AMA.

Note - I thought of using a pic that I had clicked instead of using stock pictures of Kolkata.

What are the well known dishes in your culture?

So, I'm bored out of my mind and this week has started on a pretty bad note and thus I'm looking to have fun conversations with people in regards to food, culture, tradition.

I'm an Indian Bengali and as you all might know that Indian cuisine is vast but if I simply focus on Bengali cuisine which I'm pretty sure is not as well known in the West, some of the famous dishes are Kolkata Biryani, Kathi Roll, Steamed Hilsa in Mustard Gravy (Shorshe Ilish Bhapa), Prawn in Coconut Curry (Chingri Macher Malaikari), Mutton cooked in dark brown thick gravy (Mutton Kosha) etc.

So likewise, what are some of the well known dishes in your culture? Also, do feel free to ask me questions about my culture, tradition, language etc as I would be happy to talk, answer questions and maybe make a friend or two in the process as well.

My Grandma at the age of 16 (1952), at the age of 59 (1995), at the age of 87 (2023) & now (2026)

I wanted to share some pics & information about the closest person in my life, my grandma. She meant everything to me and life without her feels meaningless and lonely. She fought all her life, got widowed early, had to hear misogynistic remarks from society and yet she fought on and helped provide a good life to my father & aunt and later to me. There wasn't anyone in this wide world whom she loved more than me and there isn't anyone I love more than her. I miss her.

Details of Picture 1 - It was taken right before she was thrown out of her home because she chose to study Nursing. She was inspired by the works of Florence Nightingale and thus she always had a burning desire in her to treat people and help them recover. Pic taken in 1952.

Details of Picture 2 - It was taken during my father's wedding. She was probably sitting beside my mother here. Pic taken in 1995.

Details of Picture 3 - It was taken right before we went to a wedding of a family friend of ours. She loved being neat & clean always and used to wear gorgeous sarees whenever she went out. Pic taken in 2023.

Details of Picture 4 - She's here just as a picture after her funeral rights ceremony alongside the pictures of her husband and son. She passed away on 10th June which was her birthday and her funeral rights ceremony was held on 22nd June, which happened to be my birthday. Pic taken in 2026.

My Grandma as a 16 year old teenager, circa 1952, Kolkata, India

My grandma was the closest and most important person in my life. She was born in Kolkata, India in the year 1936 with roots in East Bengal (Present Day Bangladesh). She always idolised the likes of Florence Nightingale and wanted to become a nurse as a result. She applied to Medical College, Kolkata but as there was stigma with the nursing profession in Bengali community, she was called names by each and everyone of her relatives, called misogynistic slurs, kicked out of her relatives house and her father stated that she is 'dead' to him.

She fought on, became a nurse and later on a matron, got married, took care of her brothers, sisters and father with the amount she earned. Later on, she got widowed at the age of 42, single-handedly raised my father & aunt in a society which wasn't kind enough to widows. Later on, she raised me as well and there was no one she loved more in the world than me.

She passed away on June 10th, 2026 on her birthday. I wish I had more time with her and not a minute goes by when I don't miss her.

I wanted to share her story, hope you all enjoy reading it.

What are the things that makes you like Indian guys and what are things that makes you feel disinterested?

Hello, so I'm new to the community here and as a 30 year old Indian Bengali man with progressive values which is typical to our Bengali culture, I have always been open to the idea of interracial dating as I tend to appreciate different cultures and I think nothing makes you more broad-minded other than interacting with people from different cultures and ethnicities.

I do have a question to ask all the women here as to who have dated Indian guys in the past, or are married to one and to the ones who are willing to date Indians. What are the things that makes you like Indian guys and what are things that makes you instantly disinterested?

Feel free to answer as I'm looking forward to hear some opinions and if I see I have the same issue, I'm willing to change it.

P.S. - I don't get the point in downvoting this post.

[30/M] - Looking for penpal and new people in life

Hey all, so I'm a 30 year old Indian Bengali guy hailing from Kolkata and I work in the broadcasting media field. Although, I do have a few friends in my life, still I would love to meet and get to know new people. I'm going through an extremely tough time/phase in my life, so meeting a new person or making a new friend would be nice to have. I won't be trauma dumping, so don't worry at all.

I'm open to connecting with new people and I would love to discuss cultures, cultural differences, politics and life in general. I'm someone who loves topics like History, Geography, Sports as in Football ⚽, Cricket, Tennis. And also, I have taken to collecting die cast cars and perfumes lately as a hobby. Although, collecting perfumes is something that I'm enjoying the most.

Feel free to connect regardless of your gender, time-zone etc as I love talking to everyone. Please be kind.

Looking for a Content Operations/Media Operations based job. Any sort of referral or help would be highly appreciated

Hi guys, I'm presently working in a Broadcasting Media Company as an Assistant Team Lead for a UK based project and things are getting stagnated in the present company. Nor am I experiencing growth of any sort or a substantial hike and nothing is going in the right direction.

So, in case if anyone of you are in the field of Content Operations/Media Operations or anything that's remotely similar, it would be really helpful if you can help with referral. I'm aware the job market is in a terrible state but I gotta try and find something, also I'm open to remote, on-site and hybrid opportunities and willing to relocate if needed. I'm happy to share my CV on DM. Please do let me know as any sort of help would be really appreciated as I'm badly in need of a job change.
