Sinus Surgery in 3 weeks, I’m on disability and struggling financially right now (more info in actual post)

Sinus Surgery in 3 weeks, I’m on disability and struggling financially right now (more info in actual post)

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3APRSVCTKTUJT?ref\_=wl\_share

I’m (27F) reaching out in the hopes that someone(s) can help fulfill my Amazon wishlist- it contains all the items recommended for my upcoming sinus surgery prep/ stuff needed for recovery (everything from medical supplies to shelf stable/easy to make foods to things like ice packs for comfort), I also included a few of my monthly medical necessities not covered by insurance that I couldn’t get myself this month (tegaderm, CGM overpatches, insulin pump over patches, and my daily supplements).

My surgery is scheduled for August 28th (roughly 3 weeks away). I have already shared my list with friends and family via FB, but it’s been up for several weeks now and barely made any traction; only a few people reached out to me and most were to say they sympathize but cannot help (which I fully understand times are tough for everyone 💛). I know two people bought a few items, and I ended up buying some items from the list myself but now I’m fully out of money until next month/after surgery.

The following is going to be quite a long read, but I feel it’s necessary to explain why I need the help and that I’m not just trying to get free stuff for fun. And if there’s any details I don’t cover and you want to know, please feel free to ask me (obviously with safety, and the sub rules in mind)!

I have been chronically ill for most of my life, but back in 2024 I was placed on disability; it is expected to be for life, and something I'm still kind of wrapping my head around and trying to make sense of. I was far into my MSW program when it happened and my life essentially changed overnight from being a grad student with a future in my dream job to figuring out how to live my life without really having an active one anymore and just getting through it all (my body gave up a lot sooner than my brain was able to accept, and some days I still struggle with it).

It also left me with a crippling amount of student loan debt that just keeps growing (federal was forgiven, Sallie Mae denied me their form of TPD). All of this also forced me to move back in with an unhappy/unwelcoming family member a few years back, but the loan debt and my housing are entirely different issues for another time.

I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and have been since I was 3, but I also have a plethora of other chronic conditions that have followed over the years; 10+ diagnosed including Hypothyroidism, PCOS/PMOS, Gastroparesis, IBS, Chronic Pain & Fatigue, and more- I also have a few mystery illnesses but I'm not even counting those ones right now because who knows what they are.

Most recently, in January 2026 I had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy due to a combo attack of several of my diagnosed conditions and their complications- this is a decision I have no regrets over, but nonetheless it was a major surgery that put a lot of strain on my body, my brain, and of course my wallet; and definitely wasn't something I thought l'd be doing in my 20's. But I managed to take care of myself and my cats alone after that surgery so that gives me the reassurance I can definitely handle sinus recovery alone too!

Without getting into extreme details of my disability, I am on a fixed income of less than $680 a month via the SSA- I receive no other income/ benefits (other than health insurance via Medicare and Medicaid) and I don't have any savings (even if I did have savings I get capped at below $2k or I lose Medicaid- spoiler alert, I can't afford to keep living if I lose Medicaid). I have applied for SNAP as well but I’m still awaiting my interview.

2ish weeks ago I had to take my cat to the emergency vet twice-he came home with a strict med and monitoring schedule that we only finished yesterday. I am so thankful for the ER vet team and that they were able to help my fur baby, but it caused my bank account to go almost $200 overdraft (bill was almost $400). Luckily for me my August disability direct deposit came through before my account was frozen, and it covered the overdraft and fees. Unluckily, that left me with less than $480 for this entire month.

I was able to afford most of my medical necessities(the ones not covered by insurance), my cats necessities, and used the little I had leftover to buy some of the stuff off my Amazon list I knew I couldn’t have surgery without. Now I’m at $0, and honestly I’ve been in this predicament before and managed with no money for almost a month- but never when I’ve had surgery scheduled/ needed to still buy necessities.

My 3 cats are my absolute world and I would do anything for them. I have no regrets over getting my cat the medical care he needed, all of the monthly cat expenses, or literally anything for/to do with them. They are my “babies” and they’ve been with me since long before disability took over my life; I can honestly say if it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be alive anymore- and as much as I can’t fathom a life without them if their needs are ever not being met by me I will re-home them (hoping it never comes to that though); their needs will always outweigh my wants.

Finally, I’m the least tech savvy person I know so if there’s any issues with the list/ the link please let me know!

Thank you to anyone who read all of this, and another thank you to anyone who can help me out!

Advice on allergy to almost every grass- most OTC/ homeopathic/ environmental changes have not helped

I (27F) was just allergy tested for, it came up that I’m allergic to every grass (but Bermuda). I have had lifelong sinus issues, and as a teen I was diagnosed with rhinitis and sinusitis. I also have a few medication allergies/ food intolerances, but they don’t matter as far as this testing goes.

I was told my medical (non OTC) options were to either start on allergy injections (said it was at least a 5 year commitment and I have to carry an EpiPen at all times). My other medical option is a pill (again a several year commitment and an EpiPen at all times). I was given some OTC/ homeopathic/ environmental options to but was told they won’t be permanent solutions (and most I’ve already tried without any good results).

I am scheduled to have sinus surgery at the end of this month (for a deviated septum and some other sinus issues). I am chronically ill (non sinus related lol)and already have to carry a plethora of medical supplies/ I wear medical devices.

I just can’t decide if it’s better to just have the allergy issues and continue to suffer or do the injection/pill method and put my health at higher risk than it already is/ have to carry around more medical supplies.

If anyone has advice/ personal stories to share it would be much appreciated!

Major Bus Fire I71 S

Just on my way to a MetroHealth appointment at Main campus, and drove past a bus that seemed to be at least half burned up- lots of fire trucks/ EMS etc. and the I71S is closed.

News is saying a greyhound caught fire. No major injuries.

Cleveland 19 is where I saw the report- but as of now it’s only a paragraph, saying something along the lines of more details to come.

I hope everyone involved is alright both mentally and physically, and to anyone driving please be safe and courteous today.

Question about recovery timeline/ going to health appointments outside of ENT during recovery

On August 28th I am scheduled to have a FUNCTIONAL ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY PER LOCALIZATION, SEPTOPLASTY (copied directly off of my MyChart lol).

I have a follow up with the ENT on the 3rd, and the 17th of September. As of now that’s my final scheduled appointment with ENT, but he said we can always schedule more if needed.

However, I have an eye & glasses exam on the 25 of September. I had to schedule almost 8 months in advance (have to see diabetic eye specialist), so I really don’t want to reschedule if I don’t have to- but on the flip side of that I’m worried I’m still going to be in some pain/ my nose will be more delicate and while I know the eye doctor isn’t going to bash anything into my face- it’s still not a comfortable process at the eye doctors and my nose will at the very least be brushed against.

I am chronically ill so I do heal a bit slowly, but my ENT suggested after the 17th I should be able to start getting back to normal (roughly 3 weeks post op).

Any advice/ opinions welcomed!

FLUTD/FIC Cat- urinary health treats/supplements

My cat was diagnosed with FLUTD when he was just under a year old; he’s almost 5 now and just had his first flare up since the initial diagnosis-it was so bad we went to the emergency vet twice. The vet specified it was a FIC flare, and that his flare up was stress based (no blockage/stones/crystals/infection/etc. found).

The vet put him on some medications, and so far he’s improving but I want to do as much as possible to minimize the likelihood of another flare. There’s not a lot of environmental factors that I can really change-that’s not me trying to be difficult but a lot of the vet suggestions are things I already do and the stuff I can’t do is because of $$ and a living in a smaller space.

My cats are on a fully pate diet, 3 times a day and with a splash of extra water for the FLUTD floof (my other 2 refuse). I cannot afford a prescription diet as the main food source for Mowgs/ for my other cats at all, but if it’s something that would still be be beneficial for my FLUTD baby, I could afford to buy the smallest bag of hills or another reputable brand (like once a month/ every other month depending on $) and just feed him 6-10 or so pieces of it throughout the day as treats- or would that little on the daily be worthless?

If it would be worthless to do prescription kibble as treats, I still want to get some treats or supplements specifically for urinary health (when he was really young I had him on Vetriscience??). Does anyone have a specific brand they recommend? I am on a very tight budget, but I also don’t want to buy a cheap product that’s not really going to help.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Potential App Issues

Last week I sent a message via the app about help I needed (trying to dispute a transaction but it’s not showing up in my dispute options- but all the charges before and after are showing up). I know it can take several business days for a response but I really thought I would get one before the end of the week.

On the 22nd I still hadn’t heard anything so I sent another message. As of today I haven’t heard anything, and I still can’t dispute the charge. I know they can’t handle disputes via chat/messenger but I did upload receipt/ pictures as proof of why I want to dispute.

A few days ago my app was under maintenance for several hours and I’m wondering if maybe this is just an issue with my phone/the app since then, if other people have been having similar issues, or if it’s something else entirely?

I planned to call earlier in the week if I didn’t hear back but without going into too much detail I’ve had a medical emergency this week, my cat had a separate medical emergency a day later, followed by a power outage yesterday. I’ll be calling on Monday if it’s still an issue, but looking for advice here in the meantime.

Already been to vet looking for advice/similar stories

TLDR: Male cat nearing 5 years old, had FLUTD most of his life but no major flares/issues with it. Tonight by chance I noticed him struggling in the litterbox(no other problems/behavior changes/diet changes noted) and called our vet, they had us come in and checked him out in their Urgent Care. They said there was no blockage, and his vitals were normal- and due to urgent care taking critical cases only, they sent us home with a plan to monitor him for the night or go elsewhere for a second opinion. I’ve taken my cats to this practice for years so I trust them, so we came home and I’m monitoring (but I’ve also heard horror stories that started just like mine). So far he is acting completely normal, but has had more pee issues since coming home (peed a tiny clump and more driplets- normally leaves large clumps) and I know cats are great at hiding issues.

My male cat Mowgs (4 now, 5 in October) was diagnosed with FLUTD a bit before he turned a year old. He has never had any major health issues, and the only reason we really found out about the FLUTD is because he is mainly white and I noticed some blood on his fur years ago- at the time I was told to always monitor but it was nothing to be majorly concerned about, and I switched him from an IAMs dry diet to an all pate diet that him and my other cats have been on for years now (normally fancy feast, have tried other brands in the past). They also get dental greenies after each meal per recommendation at their last vet visit. Mowgli specifically gets 2 after each meal.

Today was the first time I’ve noticed an issue since the initial diagnosis almost 4 years ago. I went to scoop their Litterboxes and noticed him going back and forth between 4 boxes and leaving only driplets of pee in each one (he normally leaves massive clumps). Other than that his behavior, eating/drinking, etc. has all been normal. I immediately reached out to my vet and they told me to bring him to their Urgent Care department as he’s a male with FLUTD and it could be a blockage. When we got there we were able to check in but told they’re only taking pre-existing clients (like us) and if it wasn’t a life or death situation they would likely send us home (something major was going on, not sure what).

Right before they took my cat back I was asked rather nonchalantly if he’s dying do I want them to preform CPR or would I prefer DNR- something I definitely wasn’t expecting to hear and it sent me into full on panic mode (thankfully internally and not externally).

About 15 minutes later they bring me to a room, and bring Mowgs to me. I’m told there is no blockage, they did a bladder check, and that all his vitals were fine. Due to the busy status of the Urgent Care I was told he was stable and we could go home but continue monitoring, and that if I wanted a second opinion/ something else happens tonight to go to another close by vet hospital. I have been with this vet practice for over 3 years now I really like them and I’ve always trusted their advice, though it may be of note that this was my first experience with their urgent care versus the cat specific center.

After arriving home he has not left my side (normal for him) and i purposely went near the Litterboxes a few times; so far he has peed a tiny clump (nowhere near his normal) and a few more driplets; he also did the same thing of switching back and forth in boxes like he has more to come out but it’s not. He’s not acting like he’s in pain, but he did seem a bit confused after getting out of the Litterboxes for the last time- like he needs to pee but it’s not coming and he doesn’t understand (yes I know i probably sound crazy but this cat has been with me through so much, and I can’t imagine life without him or any of my cats)

Any advice is much appreciated!

Curious About Power Outages In Other Wards/ If You Remember Outages Being This Bad In Past Summers

Hi everyone, currently experiencing the 8th outage of the late spring/ summer; I’m only counting anything that I was home during and that lasted 45 minutes or longer as I rely on medical devices that need a stable connection/ power and have to keep my insulin refrigerated (T1D for 24 years now!) I’m in Ward 12, but a few years ago we were 11 or 13, if I remember correctly (I have not moved, our ward officially switched its number)

I’m Cleveland born and raised, CPP/FE have always sucked (and illuminating company if that’s still a thing), power outages happen this time of year and I’ve come to expect them/ be prepared for them- with that being said 7/8 decent outages in the span of only 2ish months is insane. I never remember it being this bad, does anyone else??? I know that the recent heatwaves majorly amplified things, and those bastards had several planned outages for “updates”, but these outages haven’t just been during the heatwaves it’s been like this since late spring.

The worst I remember was a rolling blackout in the early 2000s that lasted off and on for a few days to a week (I was in elementary school so my memory isn’t perfect).

Upcoming Sinus Surgery(more specific advice needed than I’ve found elsewhere in the sub)

TLDR: I (27F) am looking for advice on going through sinus surgery recovery alone (I will have someone for day of surgery)- at the start of the year I had a major surgery and I was alone for that as well, and due to chronic illness I am often homebound by myself, so I know like mentally I can do it; what I need to know is with all the restrictions of sinus surgery is it possible to take care of my cats/ myself/ my home with no other help? Nothing major but the basics like feeding cats, scooping litter, cooking, light cleaning, etc.? Also looking for prep/post supply recommendations.

I’m (27f) scheduled for sinus surgery at end of August. I have a severely deviated septum (left side only), I have had life-long sinus issues ranging from constant sniffling and post nasal drip, etc. all the way to sinus/ear infections that last months at a time (earliest I remember I would have been 3/4), and after allergy testing showed no allergies roughly 12 years ago I was diagnosed with chronic rhinitis. It also might be importantly to note that I am also chronically ill with a plethora of other things, I have been type 1 diabetic since I was 3 and I feel like each year a new diagnosis somehow pops up (currently at 16 diagnosed and a few mysteries lol).

I started seeing an ENT maybe 6 months ago (saw one growing up as well) and after some alternative treatments were tried, he recommended the surgery; I asked what felt like a million questions, he answered everything, and at the end we both decided surgery was the way to go. My paperwork specifically lists it as FUNCTIONAL ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY PER LOCALIZATION, SEPTOPLASTY (copied and pasted from MyChart hence the all caps).

I’m not really nervous for the surgery itself, but I am a bit nervous about not really having help past the surgery/hospital day. Actually nervous isn’t the right word because I’m not worried about being alone I guess I’m just trying to gauge with all the restrictions (titling/bending/etc.) how hard/easy should it be to do daily things without help- obviously I’m not trying to do everything I normally would be outside of surgery, but what about feeding my cats/taking care of their litter, doing dishes/loading the dishwasher, doing laundry, basic cleaning around the house, cooking for myself, etc? In January I had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy, and I was mainly on my own for that so I know mentally I can handle recovery alone; I’m just trying to gauge the physical aspect of recovery/ what my limitations are.

I am working on getting some supplies in ahead of time like saline rinse packets, extra nose bandages (heard the ones that loop around your ears are best??), liquid/soft foods, comfort foods when I can eat normal again but still stuck at home, and debating on getting distilled water or just boiling at home (my doctor said boiling was fine but I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions!)
I already have cough drops, throat spray, OTC pain meds, any prescriptions I need filled will be ahead of time, all the comfy stuff I need like bedding/ pillows/clothing, I have a plethora of things to do for boredom, and I have a bunch of ice packs (though I might buy the face ice mask I’ve been seeing everywhere).

Any advice/recommendations are appreciated!

Need help splitting size of pdf file

I am trying to take an almost 1,500 page file (listed as 32,317 KB) and split it into multiple files of 5MB or less per file.

I was able to take other files and split them using Adobe Acrobat (in a 7 day free trial for now) but every time I try with this document it will not work. I have also tried a few other websites/apps but none will work for this specific file, I am worried it is too big for anything to work.

The reasoning behind the size limitation is that the place I have to upload my files to has a limit of 5MB document uploads. To make matters even worse I have roughly 2 weeks to get all this in before my application is closed, and I do not have any alternative methods to get them this info.

Any help/advice is much appreciated!

Advice on missing item DoorDash is saying they can’t refund in any way- lots of picture proof

TLDR: DoorDash won’t refund a $3 plus tax, side that I never received (got kettle chips instead of fries). Have proof of everything but DoorDash is still saying no refund and closed my chat out when I asked for an explanation as to why they were stealing my money.

I don’t often order food delivery, but I’ve been using DoorDash quite a bit lately. Like today I ordered food because our power keeps going out due to it being the second massive heatwave of the summer and I’m in Cleveland, OH where our grid is overrun and under-adequate (7th outage this summer).

My order had a slight mistake, there was a side of kettle chips where there should have been fries- a $3 up charge plus tax for fries. I have picture proof of my order, my paper receipt, my app receipt, and a picture of the menu showing the difference in price between chips and fries as a side on the DD app.

I went into the help button and reported my issue, it said they couldn’t automatically refund (even with picture proof including the paper receipt and wrong food item) but they would have some one review and further look into it. Well the review came through moments later and said sorry, no money back- I escalated to the chat, chat bot said the same thing, asked for a person, though it was likely another bot (and again provided all the picture proof). And still DD said no. At this point I got a bit upset and asked for an explanation, called them out for theft and my chat was ended (took pictures of the chat as well).

I have asked for compensation for incorrect items before, but never for an entire order just because one thing was wrong- that’s all I was asking for this time as well as it was a $3 up charge plus tax for a side I never received. Normally DoorDash has been great to us, but this really sucks. I even gave dash pass a chance for this month cause it was discounted and I figured I’d been using it enough with these outages I should go the cheapest route with dash pass.

I’m on a fixed income and often homebound due to disability, I’m not looking for pity here just highlighting that I’m on a very tight budget with limited options; so while $3 plus tax may not seem much, every cent counts for me. Even if I wasn’t in a tight spot, that’s $3 plus tax just being stolen from me and nothing can be done according to the DD chat…

I want to cancel my dash pass now, but I’ve already been charged for the month and my power will very likely go out again and I’ll be in need of food delivery (DD is cheapest in my area even without Dpass). So I almost feel the need to save it for just this month as a backup plan.

Any advice on how to get my money back is appreciated!

Absolutely love the restaurant and the food is amazing this is no hate to them, it’s DoorDash I have an issue with for stealing my money.

What are some health issues/complications to watch for as an adult T1D?

I (27f) have been T1D for almost 24 years now; I was diagnosed at 3yo. I have a lot of knowledge on how to treat and manage T1D as a kid-young adult, but now that I’m approaching 30 I need more education on adult-specific T1D. My doctors are obviously a huge resource, and I can search online, but I would love to actually hear from some other T1Ds!

What I’m wondering is, as someone in their later 20s who has had this disease for more than 20 years (plus 16 other chronic issues diagnosed and a few unknown that are pending lol), what other health issues/complications should I be looking out for?

I know eye problems, neuropathy, and side effects of BG being off like brain fog, sleepiness, discoloration, etc. - but is there anything else major to be on the lookout for?

Also as someone who has worn glasses most of their life, and experiences ‘pins and needles’ or ‘sleeping limbs’ frequently- how do I gauge the difference between it’s just me aging/ resting in one spot too long versus a serious matter to get checked out - obviously I know what an emergency is, but like with neuropathy how do you know it’s actually an issue and your foot hasn’t just fallen asleep from being in one position/crossed too long?
