[Rhim] Akheem Mesidor has now missed three straight practices. Rashawn Slater has missed eight. Tarheeb Still hasn't participated in team in the last eight. Third day of missed practice for Tre' Harris, second for Donte Jackson.

Day 16 -- Joint practice vs. 49ers

Overall: I watched the offense today. It was perhaps the best the unit has looked this offseason, with Justin Herbert picking apart the 49ers secondary and generating explosive plays throughout practice. The offensive line was strong in the run game but inconsistent in pass protection.

The caveat of the big passing day is that several of the offense’s biggest plays may have been nullified or looked different in a game, when defenders are allowed to hit the quarterback because the niners d line got pressure throughout.

Most notably Osa Odighizuwa, who I charted with four pressures the most of any defender

Notes

- The offensive line had a strong day run blocking, consistently creating lanes for the running backs. Omarion Hampton took advantage, running over 49ers defenders S Ji'Ayir Brown and LB Jaden Duggar on two carries

- Quentin Johnston had the catch of the day, making a one-handed grab while CB Deommodore Lenoir grabbed him and was flagged for pass interference. This was the play on which Tyler Biadasz suffered his injury.

- Left guard Kayode Awosika blocked Sebastion Valdez Biadasz's left left leg. Trainers worked on Biadasz for around five minutes before helping him onto a medical cart where he exited practice. Jake Slaughter moved to center with him out.

- Johnston later appeared to tweak his right ankle/lower leg while attempting a leaping catch. He remained at practice but did not return to team periods.

- Brenen Thompson had a big day with two 50-plus-yard touchdowns. The first came from Herbert, though Osa Odighizuwa got to Herbert before the pass was released and the play likely would've been different in a game. Odighizuwa tapped Herbert after blowing by Trey Pipkins well before Herbert released the ball. Thompson's second came on a deep ball from DJ Uiagalelei, though DL Romello Height beat OL Logan Taylor.

- Odighizuwa was a problem throughout practice. I had him down for four pressures, the most of any 49ers defender.

- David Njoku scored on what appeared to be a coverage bust, with no defender near him.

- Ladd McConkey had a similar reception on an apparent coverage bust, though Odighizuwa beat Branson Taylor for pressure on the play. McConkey was consistently open throughout practice and caught multiple touchdowns, including one through a hold by Jack Jones during a red-zone period.

- Herbert's best red-zone throw may have been to McConkey. Rolling left, Herbert threw back across his body and found McConkey between two defenders for a touchdown.

- Jack Jones nearly intercepted Trey Lance during a separate 11-on-11 period but dropped the pass.

- JaQuae Jackson caught a deep ball from Lance, though James Thompson Jr. generated pressure after beating Slaughter at center.

- Fred Warner punched the ball out of Njoku's hands after a catch, forcing a fumble.

- Kayode Awosika, Slaughter and Branson Taylor all took reps at left guard. After Biadasz's injury, Slaughter moved exclusively to center. Slaughter's play at center fluctuated. I had him down for holds on back-to-back plays during the final 11-on-11 period after he was beaten by Odighizuwa and Sam Okuayinonu.

- Kyle Kennard limped out of practice with a trainer.

- 49ers DT Sebastian Valdez easily beat Jake Slaughter for what would have been a TFL during an 11-on-11 period.

- WR Dalevon Campbell caught a couple of touchdowns during the red-zone period.

- In addition to Odighizuwa, Thompson Jr. and Ogbo Okoronkwo generated multiple pressures

- Akheem Mesidor has now missed three straight practicies. Rashawn Slater has missed eight. Tarheeb Still hasn't participated in team int he last eight. Third day of missed practice for Tre' Harris, second for Donte Jackson.

2026 NFL Offensive Line Rankings: Chargers ranked 7th

7. Los Angeles Chargers

Rashawn Slater is reportedly still on track to be good to go when the regular season begins despite a brief injury scare in training camp, and, all being well, we will get a full season of him and Alt bookending this line for the Chargers. Slater ranked second among all offensive tackles with a 90.9 PFF grade in 2024 before missing all of last season, while Alt had allowed just seven pressures from 118 pass-blocking snaps before his injury last year. The guard spots are a bigger question mark, but the health of their tackles will drive their success in 2026.

[Rhim] And now Joe Alt has a Toyota deal 😂

[Rhim on July 28th] Joe Alt said he feels 100% but is unsure if he’ll have any restrictions as camp starts Wednesday.

Alt pulled up in a 2009 Toyota Sienna, raved about the car for a few minutes.

“When the Alt family goes on vacation …we're looking for a Toyota Sienna. ... If you're looking for a minivan -- I'm not even sponsored by Toyota -- Toyota Sienna.”
