Is there a sub about uplifting stories?

I had a newspaper report about a woman on a commuter train whom lost her wedding ring down a toilet, complained to whomever she could, and had the ring recovered. The sub about the train's parent railroad rejected it out of hand. That is their choice, but can't a story like this be told anywhere on Reddit?

We have rodents, and it's complicating the use of our microwave oven

Pennsylvania, USA.

The person I have to live with (relative) (for many reasons) insists on keeping this plastic cover, which is only used in random situations to control spattering while microwaving things, in our microwave when it's not being used.

Lately we have had a rodent infestation, and their droppings are being left in the cover if it is moved out of, and placed on top of, the microwave, and left there overnight.

I wish I knew of some other part of the kitchen to store this thing when I am not using it, except that said person (the one at the beginning of this post) INSISTS it must be kept IN THE MICROWAVE as that is the ONLY PLACE the rodents can not go.

We have other cabinets in which we have been safely storing items so the rodents don't attack them, with close-able doors that are extremely reliable.

If I have to store this cover in any of those cabinets, should I seek out any type of close-able bag like Ziploc® that will hold this cover so I can at least prove to the other person that a bag can also protect it?

I understand if some may think we're not actively seeking out a professional to resolve the rodent issue, but that's only because, like many Americans, we can't afford it and won't be able to, for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

What is the purpose of putting up/downvoting and commenting on paid and promoted posts?

How does it help Reddit as an organization, especially since people (A) never see the results of voting, and (B) invariably find posts locked preventing commenting anyway?

I wanna know more about... Mustard Squad HQ

Ben (that's the only name he gives) is visiting MiLB parks and documenting the experiences. So far he's only been to four parks:
Reading (AA Phillies, where he pinch-hits for Crazy Hot Dog Vendor, apparently)
Syracuse (AAA Mets)
Lehigh Valley (AAA Phillies, closest club to me)
and most recently, Somerset (AA Yankees)
Maybe he's confined to the Northeast, but we'll find out soon enough.
So does anyone recognize him? Who is he, where is he from originally, does he have a background in media from perhaps college? He appears to have no means for others to contact him, either for monetization opportunities or interviews by other media. (Even CHDV did the latter eventually)

[US] A zillion calls from numbers with the same "first six"

The area code/exchange only differs from my own by one digit. The actual exchange of the callers would be several counties away from me, but that likely isn't where they're from.

I only answered one of them, and a seemingly-real person started asking questions about "your Medicare." While I have health coverage that includes Medicare, I don't wish to discuss it with strangers over the phone; I do know the contact # for my current insurance. Their apparent intent is to get me to buy a Medicare Advantage plan, so maybe these calls are being made during a Special Enrollment Period, or so they want me to believe. The folks who helped me decide regarding my current insurance, also cautioned against strange phone callers, but now this bunch of screwballs calls basically every day, usually multiple times, from the same exchange.

Blocking the number through the phone is useless, cuz they'll just call again from another number fitting the description above.

Farmers Insurance Exchanges replaces J.K. Simmons, and it's annoying asf

I'm being force-fed this cuz I $ub$cribe to Peacock. I understand the new agency saw no use for JK, but they don't need to be more obnoxious. People close to me deal with a Farmers agent, and they've never talked about their adverts.

Uber One... am I stuck?

Apparently I got enrolled in Uber One when I went to Uber Eats to see how much delivery from a nearby taco place would cost. I emptied my cart when I was not satisfied with the total cost. However™, I then got emailed from Uber One welcoming me to a membership, which I immediately suspected would charge me because that's what they do. I went to the main Uber site and told them to cancel my accounts, which they said they would do in 30 days. If I don't go back to any Uber site in that 30-day period, could I still be charged for Uber One?

The creator I was watching had a sudden community violation

I will note that I did not see an email announcement of their live set, so I wonder if that was the reason. Another could be the video they played, which might be under strict licensing rules.

What's up with Tower Place?

They're not even close to building anything other than the health care* bldgs on the former Martin Tower site. News media hasn't said a peep in months.

ETA: I did find stuff from back in January, but it was just about Jefferson/LVHN rebranding the bldgs.

Very specific Bill Gallo cartoon

After Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 WS, this Gallo effort included a rendering of an empty bat rack next to which Yogi is seen saying "Larseny!" Am I right that this is in fact Bill's drawing, and is there someplace I can view it online? I'm not sure about buying any version of it.

It's not at one of yours, but... F'Real milkshake maker

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftm-rNU2ri0&pp=ygUQbWlrc2hha2UgbWFjaGluZQ%3D%3D

"DancingBacons," who is from Singapore IINM, was just in Britain and found a F'Real machine.

He left out the part where the shake is paid for, so I wonder if in some (non-US) countries that comes after the blender is used. My guess, have never used one personally, is that here in the States the payment comes first, then the blending. Clarification appreciated, cuz with the hot season upon us I'd love one of these!

It ain't just NJT: Partner issues schedule change on very short notice.

At 3:20pm the message was sent out by Trans-Bridge, the Pennsylvania company which leases all kinds of rolling stock from NJT, saying that due to the Knicks parade, the 3:45 back to Annandale*, William Penn**, and LV Airport*** from Broad and Water was cancelled, and passengers had until 4pm to get to Port Authority to catch a substitute trip.

The MTA NYC Subway may be wonderful to some, but it ain't gonna get you from lower Manhattan to 42nd between 8th and 9th that quickly.

*Steely Dan jokes at your leisure, but of course they were referring to the one up the Hudson. This one is along Interstate 78 near Clinton.

**Off PA 33 expressway between Easton and Bethlehem.

***ABE in airport codes.

Based on what happened last year, when and at what web URL can we expect full tables for increased fares effective July 1st 2026?

I remember one ending in "new-fares" or similar, but that comes up empty.

Americone Dream will survive!

For those who have wondered, I just spotted a People.com article where Ben & Jerry's noted: “The flavor is a top 10 and is going nowhere!” It shows a new design for the packaging (at least the basic version, there is a nondairy version as well)

Player "sold to ____" vs "traded to ____ for cash (considerations)"

When did the practice of reporting a player-for-cash transaction change its terminology from "(so-and-so) was sold by (Team A) to (Team B)" to "(so-and-so) was traded by (Team A) to (Team B) for cash (or cash considerations)" ? My own guess is that it happened sometime in the 1990s or early 2000s.
