absolutely zero effort went into that popcorn

ollie’s at least 5-6 (not sure how old he was when i took him in) so i’ll let the laziness pass

p.s. excuse the chaotic bed lol i was mid bed clean taking a break recording that

extra p.s. his cage is a bizarre shape because he fights with his fingernails and can’t live with other pigs so his cagemate lives in a split L shaped c&c with him. they both have 3x3 each but would have a palace if they didn’t want to maul eachother

Jade and Tabitha and the monsters theory

i’m definitely not the first to think this so sorry if this has been posted many times but i am wondering if Jade and Tabitha are actually being punished with reincarnation for what they did. it was them who sacrificed children or made the deal to at least, and their human selves are eternally reincarnated until they right their wrongs and anghkooey is trying to get them to remember their own actions

then i thought and what if the monsters, considering they all look like they’re from different eras, are actually more previous reincarnations of Jade and Tabitha specifically who kept failing and doing the wrong thing so then their immortality shifts to as a monster in their death in fromville while the human version keeps reincarnating. not fully sure on that part considering christopher and miranda aren’t there as monsters but maybe victor’s survival was a spanner in the previous cycle so they didn’t become monsters. again, not 100% on that also because of tabitha’s memories and the versions of jade that jade saw, but i guess it’s not impossible that there’s other types of monsters or apparitions to become in fromville in death

i couldn’t get a photo of all the monsters together but it vaguely looks like there’s 2 of them from the same or similar era. it’s a half baked theory i don’t have confidence in but was just a thought

only feeling triggered about stuff years later feels like such a setback

TW for somewhat graphic depiction

i already dealt with and acknowledged a lot of what happened to me was SA years ago

in one instance when i was 14ish i had a relationship with a guy in his first year of college who was a legitimate creep and had a proud attraction to 13 year old girls specifically. he was incredibly forceful and crude and would talk about how young i was all the time and comment on my body in weird ways. generally a disgusting person. i was a bit sexually stunted from previous SA even beyond being young so i didn’t reciprocate his advances that much despite being with him for 3 months. we never had sex but he did things to me a lot

when i dumped him he guilted me into agreeing to still do stuff with him. i managed to avoid it for the most part but he pushed me against a wall down an alley not long after and kept kissing me until i pushed him off. i acknowledged that was messed up years ago, and knew he was a disgusting creep who should never be near children and young girls or frankly any woman even long before then

i often remembered the times where he’d finger me in places where i couldn’t say anything. one time in a packed car with my mother and friends while i was holding my friend’s hand, he reached under my skirt and started fingering me. he did that another time we were at my friend’s house watching a movie and she was sat beside us, he put his hand under a blanket. another time he did it in a school yard, and then another he shoved me down into a tonne of briars and nettles in a strip field by a motorway and held me down and fingered me in public again. probably a lot more that i don’t even remember. it got to the stage i used to hide from him when we hung out in groups and avoid him like the plague because i didn’t want him near me

even though i never forgot those instances i don’t know how i didn’t realise until recently that in these situations i literally couldn’t have spoken up or argued him to stop let alone give consent. i genuinely cannot understand how it took me so long to conceptualise those instances was assault. it’s made me feel almost like i’ve regressed because i’m not exactly in denial about anything else or oblivious at all, so how did this slip through the cracks of all the therapy and introspection i’ve done. then i wonder maybe it didn’t occur to me it was assault because i might have liked it in some way despite not being able to give consent

it’s like somehow it just clicked in my brain after all this time there wasn’t opportunity to say yes or no. it just was done to me rather than something i engaged in willingly. it’s making me think what else have i just not thought about in the right way or through the right lens, or what i don’t even remember

i already feel guilt and shame about if i liked it and how basically all my early sexual experiences warped my sexuality so much so this is adding a whole other layer to it. i don’t think i’ve ever spoken to any of my former therapists about any of that because it makes me feel so dirty and perverse that it ever happened

if anyone has any advice or wisdom for how to not let things triggering you way past the point of when they should’ve feeling like a setback i’d appreciate it

very out of character line for Aria in s5

i’m doing rewatch number 7-8 over the years (lol) and in s5 when hanna is in jail and the rest along with caleb are talking about edith piaf, aria says “like the rice?” (as in pilau) and spencer has to explain that piaf was a poet. this line felt like so out of character and hanna-esque considering aria is so similar to spencer in being very into literature and arts

no real point to this post aside from being surprised they wrote that in

themes and references in From’s episode titles

out of interest i was just looking at the episode titles for the first time really

S1EP1 is Long Day’s Journey Into Night
the play’s by Ed O’Neill and is about a family who are falling apart and riddled with grief and addiction, and a huge part of all that is the family’s baby who died in infancy. the family are completely warped by their history and when night rolls around optimism goes even more out the window. a quote from it that stood out to me was "The past is the present, isn't it? It's the future, too." that quote could be a reference to the storywalking/bootstap paradox if that’s the road they go down

S1EP9 is Into The Woods
i assume it’s a reference to Stephen Sondheim’s musical/play Into The Woods which is an amalgamation of different classic fairy tales and stories, and starts off with trying to break a curse in the forest in act 1. lots of themes of adaption and loss. a song called “Children Will Listen” is about how adult actions shape kids and thematically about breaking cycles

S1EP10 is Oh The Places We’ll Go
it’s a reference to the book by Dr. Suess that talks a lot about The Waiting Place which is kind of an ominous place that represents stagnancy. the book is about resilience and taking failures in your stride

————————————————

S2EP1 is Strangers in a Strange Land
i assume this is a reference to the book with the same name about a human who’s raised on Mars who returns to Earth. i’m not super familiar with it but seems to have themes about uncouth social orders and humans’ ability to inflict pain by ignoring truths

———————————————-

S3EP5 is The Light of Day
could be a reference to the book by Graham Stephen. i haven’t read it but looking into it the book contrasts physical confinement with emotional imprisonment. the main character is shackled by his failures and what he thinks will be salvation

S3EP9/10 Revelations Chapter One and Two
somewhat self explanatory really in reference. i’m not religious so had to look into this one a bit too but lots about John receiving visions of Jesus after he rose again and introductions of evil figures. chapters 17-20 are about the Battle of Armageddon and Satan being released. assume that’s a callback to the MiY’s introduction

————————————————-

S4EP3 is Merrily We Go
this could possibly be a callback to George S. Kaulfman and Moss Hart/George Futh/Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. it’s a story about 3 friends that rewinds in time and its core themes are about (quote) the destructive nature of ambition and loss of idealism

S4EP4 is Of Myths and Monsters
this one may be a stretch but there’s a game with the same name from 1991. its plot is a Goddess of Light has a premonition of demonic forces invading what’s called Angel Land and defeating those forces. again, probably a stretch

S4EP5 is What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been
another stretch maybe but there’s a Grateful Dead album from 1977 called that. seemingly it’s somewhat synonymous with transformative experiences. the line itself comes from the song Truckin

S4EP6 is The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
this is a book from the 40s by Carson McCullers. it’s set in the great depression and the main characters project their hopes and fears and need for understanding onto one man, in this case i’d hazard a guess that’s a metaphor for everyone doing this to Boyd. the book’s name came from a William Sharp poem that’s about isolation. every character is trapped in a way by their circumstances

S4EP7 is Best Laid Plans
this is pretty self explanatory and assuming it’s from Of Mice and Men but the original quote comes from a poem by Robert Burns about a farmer destroying a mouse’s home while he ploughs a field. it’s a metaphor for how humans and animals are victims to situations without foresight (obviously)

S4EP8 is Heavy is the Head
another self explanatory Shakespeare one about leadership being tough lol

S4EP9 is The Calm Before
self explanatory again

S4EP10 is If a Tree Falls in the Forest
ok yet another self explanatory one but i was curious of its origin. it came from an Irish philosopher George Berkeley in A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. he talked about subjective idealism so the idea that nothing in reality exists without a conscious mind observing it

——————————————-

suffice to say i’m not implying any of these are groundbreaking or some insight into the story. i just liked reading about the references used and thought i’d add them incase anyone else might too. A Long Day’s Journey Into Night seems to be the most on the nose one. the other episodes i either couldn’t find much reference to in other media/books/etc or if it was just too self explanatory. anyway this is a purely for reading/fun post :)

does anyone else struggle with whether what happened to them was real or not?

i have OCD so i know this is also an OCD thing lol but sometimes my brain says “what if you just dreamt that happened, you don’t remember all the details. it’s so hazy” to multiple situations of abuse and SA, mainly pertains to the SA i experienced as a child

doesn’t help that on the odd occasion i enter a weird sleeping state where i’m slightly away and somewhat response or aware if that makes sense or can have really vivid jarring dreams. does anyone else experience this and have any advice? it plays on my mind a lot :(

i know questioning abuse in general is very normal and i do that too in the “it wasn’t that big of a deal” way but this is just an additional chaos agent in my brain

anyone know where exactly to report rhododendron ponticum to?

near enough to my house i spotted a heap of it growing in a hedgerow. the only link i could find was for the national biodiversity website, i reported it there, but i noticed after reporting it mentions it’s a charity. i assumed with it being an invasive species there’d be an official way to report it like even parks and wildlife services or dept of agriculture or something? could be totally wrong and maybe the biodiversity site is the best way, it’s first time spotting it so i just want to make sure i’m going about it right

good native perennials for hanging baskets?

my house hasn’t had hanging baskets for years, i want to throw some up but i’m trying to have a 90% native garden so i’d ideally love the flowers in it to be native too. can’t particularly think of any that would tolerate so much shade, shallow soil depth and stay quite short

the walls are about 9 feet high and the gutters hang over quite a bit so it is fairly shaded, the front of my house is also west facing and anything that doesn’t mind drier soil would be ideal but no big deal

i’d love some suggestions if anyone has any!! ferns were my immediate thought but if there’s anything that’d be better suited or could go along with ferns that’d be great, my main concern with ferns is keeping them in soil that’s adequately moist. ivy would be an obvious one but ivy is a scourge around my garden and the wooded area behind my house so i definitely don’t want it there either lol

edit: if there’s no real good native contenders any other suggestions welcome too but definitely want perennials for convenience :)

how do i stop foundations looking SO bad on my nose?

i don’t even have a pic bc i’ve given up on wearing foundation or tinted moisturisers or anything because of it, but makeup always just looks absolutely horrific on my nose. it doesn’t even look cakey per se but it separates and you can see lines and it generally looks streaky and awful and dotted in parts almost

my skin is normal-dry, i’m a 27 year old woman and i have the same skincare routine for years. 0.5% tretinoin, prescription azelaic acid, an undereye retinol and i use the illiyoon ceramide ato cream moisturiser and when i’m super dry i use the elf moisturiser in the little greyish tube i forget the name of. i exfoliate about once a week but overall my skin doesn’t feel dry, it’s smooth and somewhat clear and i don’t have acne or texture issues really either. even when i’m having a great skin day where i have zero dryness or irritation, my nose still refuses to cooperate

the skin on the rest of my face can tend to look cakey a little fast too but with lightweight products it’s generally not an issue but my nose seems to do the exact same no matter WHAT i wear, i’ve tried so many products and techniques and even primers don’t seem to help. has anyone ever found anything that actually works for this or has any suggestions i might not already know about?

can anyone recommend some long running easy to watch shows?

i’ve seen way too many shows to even mention here but anything along the lines of desperate housewives, parenthood, hart of dixie, gilmore girls, gossip girl, PLL, girls, big little lies, 90210, good girls, sullivan’s crossing, grey’s anatomy, virgin river etc. my fav shows are mysteries and horrors but i love having easy to watch background tv!!

i find shows like any of above easy to watch whether they’re basic teen/family dramas or ones like desperate housewives that are kinda campy and have some mystery. having multiple seasons is a plus

open to suggestions for virtually anything else though too!! the only shows i don’t tend to like at all are period dramas or cop shows

anyone know what this dark pink flower is?

i have a few pots of some native wildflowers as well as in my garden itself, as you can see mostly clover and there’s some campion and yarrow in there but have no idea what the fuschia one is!! it may not be a native wildflower and a straggler from something else but i have absolutely no idea either way. the only other non natives i have growing in pots are snapdragon, sunflowers, verbena and cosmos, i did think maybe snapdragon? but i have no idea how a snapdragon seed would’ve even ended up there

what’s everyone’s favourite custom paths in new horizons?

i recently restarted my island from 2020 and i’m on the lookout for different custom paths!! i’ve scoured google but i’m curious if anyone here has any paths they love and could share the creator/ID? i’m especially on the hunt for good flower paths, the type where you can see the original grass texture underneath so it doesn’t look so stark

anyone know where to get rarer native seeds/plants?

i’m aiming for a majority native garden and i’m really struggling to find seeds for plants like hedge woundwort, loosestrife, selfheal etc. i can find all of them and more on UK sites no issue but just can’t seem to find any Irish ones

those were just a couple of specific examples but there’s heaps of native wildflowers i want that i’m struggling to source

should i chop off these leaves?

i got this for €6 discounted bc it looks pretty terrible lol. i’m just quarantining it from the rest of my plants for a bit and will repot in some better soil and maybe a smaller pot before i move it to live with my other calatheas, but just wondering should i leave the crunchy bad leaves be for the moment until it shoots out more new growth or just get rid of them now?

anyone have recommendations for niche/weird/very stylised movies?

i’ve seen basically every “big” or popular horror and a LOT of smaller/low budget ones too. like the title says i absolutely love more weird or lower budget movies, movies that are very thematic and stylised, limited location etc, and i also love a slow burn and ones with a really horrible atmosphere (like Hereditary type of rancid atmosphere)

i LOVED Masking Threshold, The Surrender, Possum, Low Life, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Speak No Evil, It Ends, Dead End, Hellbender, Frewaka

as far as stylistic goes to i really loved Honey Bunch, Strange Darling, Glorious, A Wounded Fawn and Cam. movies that are colour graded and shot very specifically if that makes any sense. not that any of those movies have anything in common, but they all have such a distinct aesthetic and filming style. Skinamarink hit the ball out of the park in that regard for me, i absolutely loved the limited liminal location, the dreadful atmosphere and the cameras used

atmospherically i also really enjoyed Bring Her Back, Saint Maud and The Lighthouse. also love a good comedy horror, Deadstream is one of my favourite movies ever

i know pretty much none of these movies have anything in common but i hope it’s somewhat coming across :)

can anyone recommend any (preferably) native flowers or plants that love or at least tolerate wet, clay soil?

i have so much garden space i need taken up and i really want it to be majority native and for pollinators. my garden is swamped full of alders and willows especially, they thrive in the very damp soggy soil in the front of of my garden but i really need more plants. i let wildflowers grow but it’s primarily moss, dandelions, buttercups, docks, willowherb, clover and a couple types of grass. i have no intentions of getting rid of any of those apart from a good bit of the grass, i just want some more variety alongside the other plants :)

meadowsweet is of course a given, it grows on the opposite side of my house and i’m gonna propagate it if i can’t find any pre-grown meadowsweet to buy but aside from meadowsweet i’m not sure what other plants would love or accept moist and somewhat compacted soil. i think the soil is definitely less compacted where the trees, dandelions and docks are but the rest is is definitely not amazing

i’m open to some non-natives as long as they’re obviously not invasive or plants that vigorously spread, i grow cosmos, snapdragon and verbena in pots but as far as stuff in the ground goes, native is my preference
