Where’s good to eat in Lewes now?

I really liked Dill, but it has — for whatever reason — disappeared off to Barnes now. Everywhere else I have been in the surrounding area has been mediocre at best: where are East Sussex’s cool restaurants?

Eclipse glasses?

Has any savvy shop owner stocked up on these for tomorrow? Tried to buy some online but can’t get a delivery before Sunday!

Just watching Disclosure Day

Y'know, it's not a bad movie but MY WORD what a corny soundtrack. It's like a temp score made its way into the final cut.

What is the worst thing about Reddit for you?

Obviously, we're all here, so there are plenty of things we like about Reddit. But what's the thing that ticks you off the most?

Is it:

[A] Obvious karma-farming bots?

[B] Human users accusing other users of being karma-farming bots, and dismissing every post as ‘AI slop’ ?

[C] Endlessly recycled memes and copied videos?

[D] Every single history question being basically ‘How could the Nazis have won WW2?”

[E] Something else?

Do you find the 'archive ' feature a bit flaky?

Sometimes I look back after a practice session, hoping to remind myself of a particularly good run of tunes, only to see that it got bored after the first few songs and forgot to log the rest.

The wrong people called in, Lynne.

Just 48 hours after the “historic” launch of “the People vs the Establishment” by-election in Clacton, what more could a man like Jenrick wish for than such a precious opportunity as this? He let out a little smile. He pushed his spectacles up on his nose and braced for 180 solid minutes of campaigning. The mic would be his sword, the mid-morning radio world his stage. “The people” would flock to the phone lines to join him, to answer Nigel’s call and take the chance “to stick two fingers up to the establishment”.

Sadly, no doubt a result of some kind of technical malfunction, it didn’t work out that way. All morning, none of “the people” managed to get through. Every call, one after the other after the other, was just establishment, establishment, establishment. How had they done it? Best not to ask. That’s how the establishment works. Their tentacles are everywhere. They’re at the top of every major institution. They even, according to some of the more unhinged corners of the internet, hide in bins and pretend to be intergalactic space lords.

“Linda from Brentwood” set events in motion, calling Farage “a vile, repulsive individual”. I mean, she said she was from Brentwood, but my daughter’s swimming teacher is called Linda and she’s from Brentwood and it definitely wasn’t her, so clearly whoever was calling in was just part of the deep-state conspiracy to take Nigel down.

Codes. Kind of Trip Hop I guess? Feedback (semi) welcome!

Right, so the story behind this one is: I wrote it in my crappy little flat in North London one chilly evening in late 1991, I think, and it was one of the first things we recorded when we signed to Island the following year. Unfortunately the label decided to send it off to be remixed and I absolutely hated the result.

The remix didn't sell at all and I still don't know if I feel vindicated or just annoyed.

Fast forward 34 (!!) years and I thought I’d give it another try. This recording is pretty much as I intended it to sound all those years ago.

Everything’s sequenced in Logic, except the lead vocal obviously, and the guitar. The dub version is all Logic except for a slightly moronic one-note motif on the 6-string bass.

It remains probably my favourite song I’ve ever written. And in its multiple incarnations, it hasn’t sold at all. Annoying.

Anyway. Check it out. Let me know what you think. Unless you hate it in which case keep that to yourself!! 😉

Odd little problem with S61

Wondered if anyone else had seen it… and more importantly found a way to fix it!

I use the 'Mixer' window a lot with Logic to provide an instant, tactile volume control. It's worked fine for years.

Just the other day, I noticed that it was no longer displaying track names – just a blank spot where the names ought to be.

Flipping to other modes, sich as MIDI CC or the Komplete Kontrol window, show up fine, suggesting that the screen itself hasn't failed.

I tried downloading new firmware for the keyboard from NI's site – as far as I can see it's the correct firmware but the installer can't even see my S61 at all.

What do we think has gone wrong here?

At last – Music Library!

I’d like to share, if I may, a positive Sonos experience.

Since I moved house, about 4½ years ago, I have been unable to reconnect my Music Library to Sonos.

I painstakingly followed the instructions on the Sonos site more than once. I have been trying to fix this issue – on and off – fo ryears.

I’ve spoken to numerous people on Reddit and on Sonos forums and most of them were convinced that I wasn’t following the instructions that I can assure you I was definitely following.

I have a few Macs, so I tried to get the job done on all of them. Upgrading / downgrading operating systems – nothing worked.

I recently got yet another speaker – my 10th – and figured it was time to put things right.

I contacted Sonos support online yesterday, and went through all the steps I’d already gone through while chatting to their LLM ‘AI.’ In itself a waste of 20 minutes but I ended up with a support case number.

So today, I called up Sonos support & spoke to a nice lady who clearly knew her business. She remoted into my machine and nailed it. I was watching everything she did – as one should whenever a stranger is remoting into your machine – and she definitely did some stuff that is not in the basic online instructions .

But the important thing is that she got it done. I am so pleased about it. I have been hitting my head against this brick wall for so long and now my torment is over.

Upgrades are stackable?

I've always thought that the Sonos upgrade system was a good deal., but I've never actually used it before; am I right in thinking that if I selected (say) three speakers to upgrade I'd get 45% off a new speaker? Is that right?

Which movie trailer gave you completely the wrong idea of what the film was about?

For me it's Sam Raimi's SEND HELP [2026]. The trailer I saw left me with the impression that it was a light comedy. It really ain't.

>!It kind of starts that way but then quite rapidly descends into a violent exploration of murderous obsession, !<

Have you ever been completely misled by a movie trailer?

Question about CA:TWS that has bothered me since 2014

Spoiler, in case you have somehow managed not to have seen this 12-year-old movie.

>In this scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fury seems to be all in favour of Project Insight. Later, he is clashing with Pierce about its implementation. !<

I don't recall seeing a scene where Fury actively changes his mind, it's just "one minute he likes it, next minute he doesn't." Am I missing something?

How much actual money do you think Elon Musk has?

Sure, he's a trillionaire on paper, but he couldn't realise that as actual liquid cash without collapsing the stock. So how wealthy do you think he is in real terms. 'Buy a big yacht' rich? 'Buy a small country' rich?

Just bought Komplete 26

Normally I get every other update and, to be honest, there’s not all much in the new stuff that I can use but I just wanted to show the company some support. Did you go for it or will you skip this one?
