Seeking collaboration or pointers to the best open mics
I live in port Angeles and really want to start a band. I am a bass-baritone singer, somewhat opera trained. I write lyrics that are mostly gothic with deep emotional undertones but I’ve played around with other genres as well. I have received a lot of praise for my writing so I hope with collaboration I can produce really great lyrics.
If anyone is someone or knows someone (or knows someone who knows someone) that is an instrumentalist interested in forming a band, or of any open mics that are fairly busy, please let me know. I can be reached here, preferably through direct message, and if that leads anywhere I can then direct that person to my socials.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Raymond carver
Reading Raymond Carver’s collection of short stories, “Short Cuts,” and I honestly can’t help but feel resentment towards his writing style. The stories are pretty good all things considered, but they seem to be completely pointless and meaningless. I also hate the way he uses language in a way that sounds incorrect (“I on the sofa,” “I said. I said”) and I don’t think it’s some profound skill like I feel he wanted me to think. I get that not having a denouement is something that people really like about his stories, that it’s a “snapshot of real people’s lives,” but to me that is the worst part of it all. So you’re telling me that there’s literally no point to any of his stories other than to just say “something happened and the character had feelings about it”?
I really hate this book, and I’m hoping someone can give me a reason to like it. What do you think of Raymond Carver’s stories?
My online course consists of simply reading chapters of the textbook and then taking a quiz, a test, and a scenario to discern how well we receive the knowledge. This is incredibly difficult and I very rarely know the answer on my first guess and often have to reread the textbook before answering.
Does anyone have advice on how to make textbook reading easier? I feel like this is the worst possible way for me to learn the material. There’s no class time, instead the class consists solely of reading the textbook. I work full-time, I have court obligations (sobriety group, therapy, case management, court coordinator meetings, community service, drug tests, and court appearances), and I have two other classes. I’m so overwhelmed that I cannot take this pressure. I cut back on hours at work (by one day) yet still have limited time.
