Will local or big name hardware stores give or sell you their scrap wood?

I got an idea for a side hobby/business that would involve recycling scrap wood to make into a small inexpensive decorative and customizable product. In order to keep costs low and also just to be eco friendly by repurposing scrap wood I was wondering if it’s common if any hardware stores or even carpenter shops or lumber yards will give or sell their scrap wood?

Does anyone else feel like there is an over-saturation of modern semi-auto handguns with the same basic design?

I feel like every time I look at options for a modern semi-auto handgun I feel like they all almost look exactly the same with the basic same internals and external modern/tactical design or features. I get that’s what sells nowadays and I do carry this style of handgun myself both personally and for work but at the same time I feel like it’s kinda stunted any potential technological advancement for the consumer handgun market. Don’t get me wrong I am a supporter of “If it works, don’t fix it” but at the same time if you just show me any modern semi-auto handgun without any context and block out the markings I probably wouldn’t be able to tell what it was because they all just look the same to me.

What’s a good affordable backup/pocket size .22 mag-fed pistol?

I recently learned about the Walther TPH .22lr and then saw that they range anywhere between $700-$2,000 (even $700 is pricey for a .22 pistol) depending on the condition and the finish. Ideally I would want something kinda similar in design or at least in size and style with a nickel or chrome finish and NO polymer lower.

Just made my 1st report to the State for another provider & agencies protocol violations. What should I expect if anything?

I just made my 1st report/complaint to my states EMS regulatory department against an EMS Supervisor & my EMS agency (put in my 2-wks) for a blatant protocol violation on a call with multiple witnesses including the Police and against the agency itself for a multitude of other operational/equipment protocol violations.

What if anything should I expect from this in terms of follow-up, questions, requests for documentation or potential retaliation?

Note per request: I don’t wanna share any details for fear of some of the people involved may be on this subreddit. I just wanna know what I can potentially expect with any potential follow up from the state. If I wanted to share the full story I would’ve tagged this post as “General Discussion”

Got passed on my cruiser doing 65-75 MPH (in a 45) in the left lane by a group of sport riders. Did I do the right thing by staying in my lane or should I have moved over or done anything else? (I’ve only been riding for 2 years)

Balancing Spiritually and Science

Ik this is a common debate/discussion among Christians and Abrahamic religions but I feel like its rarely talked about among the Pagan communities.

I'm a Norse Pagan, I have a Ve and I make occasional spiritual offerings. But at the same time I work in Emergency Medicine and am a bit of a science nerd. Outside of medicine I especially love aviation, space flight/technology and astronomy. I've even taken a short vacation from work just to fly down to Cape Canaveral to watch a rocket launch in person for my 1st time.

Im just curious if anyone out there is in any way similar with being in a scientific, medical or tech field while also being Pagan and how you balance it or do you just not really think of it too much?

Still emotional 14 years after dog passed.

It has been 14 years since my childhood dog passed away. I was still in High School when she passed and now Im a man in my late 20's and I still find myself getting emotional when I think about her.

Is this normal or has anyone else ever had happen?

For some perspective she was a pound rescue bordercollie with a rare full black coat and when I was about 5 yrs old she would let me use her belly as a pillow and was a natural well behaved guard dog. I've been an EMT for 6 years and have seen some messed up and tragic stuff with humans and it doesn't bother me as much but when I think about my childhood dog I still find myself getting emotional or even teary eyed once in a while.

Need advice mounting a Megaphone to a 4x4

Just started a summer job as an EMT for a large beach. We have a small fleet of Bobcat UV34XL 4x4's and each 1st aid station has a hand held Megaphone with siren functions but the Bobcats themselves don't have any hard wired or plug and play sirens. (Im already working on something for emergency lights)

Obviously it can be a hassle or just unsafe for 1 person to drive and operate the Megaphone at the same time, so I want to either find a specifically made mount for this or figure out a way to quickly and easily mount the Megaphone onto the Bobcat and take it off to put back in the office for the night. Preferably something mounted on the dash would be ideal for easy use and accessibility.

Any advice or suggestions for this are greatly appreciated.

Why is the S-76 so loud?

In my area there is a Sikorsky S-76 operated by Netjets and everytime it's flying I can hear it from as far as 5 miles away whereas most other helicopters I don't hear until they're practically on top of me or at least just much closer.

Why is it so much louder than most other helicopters even of similar size and power?

Dropped my P320 & nothing happened.

I unironically and purely by accident dropped my Sig P320 (with a round in the chamber) on a solid tile floor from waist height while still in the holster when I was using the bathroom at work and absolutely nothing happened and the gun is fine... myth busted???

EMS with limited security roles

So I happen to be both an EMT (currently going for Paramedic) and an Armed Security guard with roughly 7 years experience in both fields respectively.

I just started a seasonal summer job as a beach EMT at one of my local ocean beaches (NO security experience or licensing required). We have 1 EMS responder car and a handful of EMS 4x4's to drive on the beach. On our 1st day of training they told us that 2 of our responsibilities is to do beach patrols before closing to help the lifeguards kick people out of the water and off the beach and that if we see people breaking a park rule like illegally feeding wildlife or going on the dunes we are responsible for asking them to stop and if they continue to call park security or the police.

I dont have an issue with this since I have plenty of security experience but in most cases when Im at a job thats strictly EMS we are usually told to only worry about our own personal safety and security and that if we see someone doing something illegal and depending on what it is to either just ignore it or report it to PD but continue on our way as long as no one is being physically hurt.

Does anyone else think this is a little weird for EMS to at least be doing the 2nd part with enforcing park rules/laws especially considering the beach/park already has its own security guards and park police?

Edit: Forgot to mention they even told us that we can inform people that their cars will be ticketed if they dont leave before closing in order to more easily get them out of the water or off the beach.

Should U.S. EMS stop wearing navy blue uniforms?

Just had a shower thought:

I've been in EMS for 7 years and my department like many others within the US issues the typical duty Navy Blue tech pants and uniform shirts. We dont wear any metal badges or pins on our uniforms just printed or sewed on patches of our logos, the US Flag, EMT patch, etc. EMS duty belts are optional, in my area mostly Medics wear them cause its an easier way for them to carry their narcs and IV pouches.

Anyway I can't even count the amount of times people have mistaken me or my coworkers as cops even while standing right in front of them, even without any gear on our belts, in clear daylight and also with completely sober and alert patients/bystanders. I feel like agencies or other countries where EMS either only ever wears some sort of high vis, brightly colored, or just a drastically different color and style of uniforms than their local police don't have this issue.

While there are a ton of pros and cons to someone thinking your a cop in today's political climate I feel like its more of a con and a scene safety concern especially since we are not police in anyway shape or form (unless your a police/tactical medic) and other than soft or chemical restraints (if your an ALS crew) we have no other official/protocol form or tools to protect ourselves.

So with that in mind should EMS in the U.S. start leaning away from the dark navy blue uniforms and try to make ourselves look drastically different from police? Everyone can instantly recognize a firefighter but no so much with non-fire EMT's and Medics.

Edit: there have been a few calls where the patient was either afraid of or not cooperative with the police or anyone in what looked similar to a police uniform and my medic partner happened to be wearing a bright baby blue fleece jacket and when he walked in and let the patient clearly see his uniform and realize he wasn't a cop they immediately cooperated.
