Questions about the Torin 9 and things like size

Is it me or ..does it feel shorter and not as long as the torin 8 ? If yes, then I wholeheartedly welcome that change. It feels a bit more snug which is ideal for me. Strangely enough, when I sit them side-by side with my Escalante 5, they look about the same length when I wear them, the Torin 9's feel shorter.

Which brings to my general problem with Altra and size. 13/48 is too short for me. Yes, my feet are able to enter the shoe I really dislike when my toes ends up rubbing the end of my shoe which I don't like so I have to size up - which then again is too long for my feet

Does this mean that I'm cursed to wear shoes that are too big me ? Because it's better to have shoes that are a bit too long than too short. I'me made the latter mistake before and it did not end well for my toes.

An often over-looked benefit of barefoot shoes

They're really light. To the point that regular sneakers or running shoes (Altras included) feel heavy and clunky to me. It really feels like I'm walking on clouds with barefoot shoes lol. I also feel more stable when walking in them. Stable walk, stable life, is the signal my sub-conscious seems to receive.

Another benefit is that they fit better. In regular shoes I always have to size up which is uncomfortable but still better than not having enough room.

Just something I noticed recently

Most relatable line/moment ?

"We're in our 30's.. it's not cute to be broke anymore"

This is what Carrie says to Doug after or during the whole mold debacle

Oh my god, I can attest to this line being so true lol. I guess it's not as bad as being broke in your 40's but the clock is ticking

Eckart Tolle and Bundesliga

I recently read about someone who met Eckart Tolle and apparently ET was non-stop talking about Bundesliga - which is the primary german soccer league (Eckart Tolle is german).

Can this be true ? Lol, I would not have expected ET to be invested in watching sports ? That was definitely not on my bingo card for 2026

Jordan Peterson's hair transplant

Peterson is on record saying that his hair grew back after he changed his diet ..which is non-sense of course.

Rule Nr. 8 Tell the truth or at least don't lie

One thing I don't understand is why he lied regarding this. Should he be above hair transplants as an intellectual because they're superficial ? Yes. Is he hurting anyone by getting a hair transplant or will his life take a hit if he admits that he's gotton one ? No.

Such a pointless lie. I don't get why he lies about trivial stuff like this.

The internet has prevented me from living my life

Yes including reddit. It started with facebook when I was a teenager. I would come home from school and look at what people posted. This continued throughout my twenties, now I'm in my 30's and I ask myself: What the hell just happened ?

In my late 20's, I started going on reddit and granted, it has been much more useful than social media. But it's still preventing me from building connections in real life. Youtube, the same thing, too.

So, here's my question: Do I have to delete everything ? I have ADHD and I've been told that people with ADHD work via necessity. Meaning, only if something becomes necessary, we act.

I'm in my 30's and I have nothing to show for myself.

Wouldn't it be best for me to log off ( or better yet to delete myself from the internet) for the next 10-15 years and get my GDP, go to college, create a family and maybe, maybeee then return ? Social media is a farce. There's always the next youtube video, the next post, the next article, as interesting as it may seem. It never ends.

Do I have to delete everything ?

How to delete all youtube comments ?

So..I'm about to delete all of this shit since I'm tired of getting notifications for old comments.

There's this script called scriptSetup.js and it says that you should copy that this code into the Google Chrome Dev Tools console on the comment history page. But this instruction is too confusing. Where exactly should I paste it into ?

I need some guidance..

Question about Hisense A10

I really reaallly hope it comes with Google Play Store. I'm not doing non-google play phones or crazy work arounds anymore.

It would also be great if the second screen would be Amoled and not LCD but that's a rather minor disturbance.

Thoughts about that ?

Social media is truly an illusion

I know, I'm not the first one to say and Sam has obviously made the same observation. I do find it comforting that a guy who has meditated for over 10 years in India himself has struggled with the addictive and destructive tendencies of social media, in this case twitter.

For me it was facebook. As a millenial, I've had facebook pretty much since I was I don't know..16 ? Being in my 30's now and I'm wondering..what did just happen ? Years of my life have gone by watching other peoples' lives more than living my own. Now comes the illusion, the "friends" and the "connection". Social media tricked me into thinking I have a social circle that I always have access to, prompting me to neglect my real social life.

Now, I know that many people don't need to delete social media to have a meaningful life. But I feel like I do. I feel like deleting it would force me to take action in my life whereas making it possible for me to log in will always be a trap for me.

What do you guys say, should I or we delete it or just leave it dormant because I might benefit from it later on ?

Social media and ADHD is a nightmare

I know, I'm not the first one to say it. But social media has been one of my biggest challenges in life.

I've never had instagram. But I've had facebook.

But as we all know, people with ADHD struggle with having an all-or-nothing mindset. I want to delete myself from the internet so it becomes necessary for me to get my life in order. Not optional. Necessary.

What do you guys think ? Should I or we delete it completely ? I do feel anxious about not being able to reach out.

Jordan Peterson is right

About one thing. Staunch atheism and nihilism. And how they feed from each other.

Mind you, this is not me admitting that I believe in God but rather making some observations and maybe somebody can here can relate to this:

So many times in my life I have felt forlorn and nihilistic about life, as in why do anything at all and not just sit around 24/7? It doesn't matter what I do anyways because everything will be forgotton. Now, I understand that some people are fully capable of living meaningful lives while being atheists - but it seems to me like I can't. Or at least, I struggle with it.

The belief that there's a higher power that wants me to leave a dent in the universe is what continously prompts me to make the best ouf of myself, physically, mentally and professionally and that all of that has an impact. Because if it doesn't and nothing matters, then why do anything at all. And no amount of buddhist philosophy will alleviate that cognitive burden. Only a higher power will.

Why I like Goggins

For a long time, I've tried the meditative approach of telling myself nothing really matters, you will be forgotton..you are enough and shit like that.

None of it worked. The only thing that worked is doing shit. Over and over again.

Essentially what Goggins is advocating for is cognitive behavioral therapy/modulation - taken to the extreme.

You can bitch about being betrayed by friends, you can bitch about how unfair everything is - and here's the thing you might even be right. It's even pretty likely that you're right. But the world doesn't care. Therefore you should get to a level where you stop looking for external factors to validate you.

There's also this idea in some spiritual places that will tell you that "you are enough" and that type of shit which simply doesn't work in my opinion. Actually, realizing that I am not enough is what contiously prompts me to change. Social hierarchies matter and wanting to climb them, i.e. wanting to make the best out of yourself is not a sign of some type of ego you need to transcend. It's a healthy biological drive that needs to be fulfilled.

I don't know if you guys have across this hyper-spiritual, lovey-dovey fluff talk and I'm actually interested in knowing whether you have but none of it helped me. What helped is getting off my ass and doing shit

The more competent I become - the better my life becomes

So.. according to Tolle, all we need to do is just to sit around and do nothing, kumbaya and life is beautiful. Transcend the ego yada yada.

I don't know... the more I performed, the more I exercised, the more books I read, the more professional skills I aquired, the more disciplined I became - the better my life became. The quality of my life exponentially increased the more competent and the more tangible life skills I aquired. Both my physical health and mental health improved when I began doing shit instead of just sitting on my ass, meditating like a buddha.

I just think it's interesting that none of the "you are enough" tropes worked on me. What worked is behavior modulation. Doings thing that were good for me.

I almost feel guilty for setting goals for myself because of these buddhistic principles but it was precisely them; goal-setting and cognitive behavioral therapy tbat have gotton me out of misery.

There's actually not much help out there

Especially as a man..I've kind of noticed something. Notice how people always tell you how it's okay to reach out and ask for help and if only people asked for help, especially men, then everything will be okay. I've actually tried this a few times and..

Nobody really cared that much lol. At least not to a great extent. Even official helping services did not.

Help, in particular for men, means resources. It usually means money but it can also mean helping someone move. Most problems are solved via resources, not some dumb therapeutic technique. And most therapists are accessed via...you guessed it..money. You know what the funny thing is..the money the therapist gets for talking to you would actually help you out more than talking to him. It would allow you to rebuild your life and create the conditions necessary for healing. Everything else is bullshit.

What I'm saying is I'm kind of realizing why Goggins may advocate for his ways and why his story resonates with many people, especially men. Because despite claiming to, most people actually don't really care about your problems. So you better get going.

I'm not sure if you have made similar observations but his conclusions simply make sense imo.

What if I care about family life more than improving myself like a crazy person ?

I've just recently had a thought..in that maybe I don't really care that much about achievements.

I care about having a wife and having kids, being a good dad and being of service while of course earning a decent living.

That's it.

What would you guys say about that ?

Does adversity make or break a boxer ?

There seem to be two opposing schools of though regarding this.

One says that adversity, losses etc can strengthen a boxer as it'll act as reference experience for how to recover from a set-back. Because if a boxer has never faced set-backs, then how will he know how to deal with them when he comes across them later ?

And yet sometimes, a heavy loss has the power to shatter a boxer's self-esteem forever.

What is the reason why for some boxers, adversity serves as a catalyst for building resilience whereas for others it is the opposite ? And what examples for each woul you name ?

Question about The death of Ivan Ilyich

This is a classic that is often met with a lot of praise from critics and regular readers alike.

I have to say I'm a bit confused. Tolstoy wants us to realize that Ivan's ideas of life such as chasing wealth and status have lead him to waste his life. Fair enough.

But looking at life, especially at life in the west, it seems to me that people who don't do that are just as miserable, if not more. There's an established link between income and health as well as well-being. Most peoples' lives that I have seen that have improved did so as a consequense of an increase in income or skills. The poor have always had it rough.

Becoming competent and wanting to enrich the world by using your skills seems to be natural too.

In your opinion, is Tolstoy's novel realistic or does it rather scoff at extreme cases like Ivan, thereby potentially leading to narrow conclusions ? Because in my observation, you can be ambitious, make a lot of money and still have a fantastic life and have a loving family too.

And what alternative would there be ? Should one not be ambitious and not better their own life ?

What would Eckart Tolle think of someone like.. Noam Chomsky ?

So, this one is interesting to me.

Noam Chomsky is one of the most cited intellectuals in the 20th century who has made contributions to various fields like linguistics, activism and who regularly comments on geopolitics.

Given that Tolle has frequently criticized the over-identification with the mind and/or intellect - would Chomsky fall under this rubrique, too ?

Would a hyper-intellectual life like this be considered a wasted life ? I personally feel about guilty and inferior about not being as accomplished as intellectuals like these.
