I’m currently in my 2nd year of B.Tech Chemical Engineering and I’m looking to build a strong foundation in the core subjects.
Could you guys suggest some must-read / most useful books for 2nd year Chemical Engineering?
Especially looking for recommendations for subjects like:
Fluid Mechanics
Heat Transfer
Mass Transfer
Thermodynamics
Chemical Reaction Engineering
Process Calculations
Numerical Methods / Engineering Mathematics
I’m mainly looking for books that are easy to understand, conceptually strong, and useful for both university exams and future GATE/industry preparation.
If you’re a senior or a practicing chemical engineer, I’d really appreciate your recommendations! 🙌
Also, if there are any books you wish you had started reading in 2nd year, please mention those too. 😄

First of all, my friends in my hostel—I don’t know whether I should call them friends or enemies because they always find a reason to mock me. ☹️ Sometimes it gets really bad because it hurts me a lot. They mock my father 🥲, my body, my looks, my clothes, and everything else they can relate to me. Sometimes there isn’t even a reason or logic behind their jokes. When I ask them, “Why are you guys mocking me this much?” they tell me to take it easy and say, “It’s just fun.” They justify it by calling it “ookku.”
Now I feel like I’m always a clown to them, like I’m their punching bag—not physically, but emotionally. In everything I do, they find a reason to mock me.
Guys, how would you react to them if you were me?
