ALDRIN GARCIA SETS HIGHEST OLLIE WORLD RECORD 2011

On 15 February 2011 Aldrin Garcia set the Guinness World Record for the highest ollie on a skateboard.

He cleared 45 inches, 114.3 centimeters, over a rigid bar at the Maloof High Ollie Challenge in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The rules required no contact with his body or board【8386840145527677152†L18-L20】.

Garcia broke the previous record of 44.5 inches held by Danny Wainwright since 2000. He won 10,000 dollars for the feat.

The record still stands today. It is one of the hardest flat ground records because it requires explosive pop with zero ramp assistance.

It proved that the simplest trick can still define the limits of skateboarding.

MARK “GATOR” ROGOWSKI RISES AND FALLS IN THE 1980s
Mid 1980s. Mark “Gator” Rogowski was one of the most dominant vert skaters in the world, competing alongside Tony Hawk and Christian Hosoi during skateboarding’s rapid rise.
Known for his aggressive style, Gator pushed fast lip tricks, disaster variations, and spinning 540s in both directions, bringing power and unpredictability to vert skating.
At his peak, he was one of the most recognizable faces in skateboarding, helping define the energy and image of the 80s era.
But his story took a dark turn.
In 1991, Rogowski was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend, bringing a sudden and tragic end to his career and permanently impacting how he is remembered in skateboarding history.

RODNEY MULLEN INVENTS THE DARKSIDE IN 1991

In 1991 Rodney Mullen released his part in Plan B's Questionable video.

Midway through the part he rolled into a trick no one had ever seen. He flipped the board upside down, stood on tge underside , and slid the grip tape across a curb.

He called it the darkslide.

It was not just a new trick. It was a complete rethink of what grip tape and wheel contact could do. Mullen had been working on it for two years in his garage, using waxed boards and furniture sliders to test the physics.

The darkslide became one of the most iconic technical tricks ever filmed and is still considered impossible by many skaters today.

It proved that street skating had no limits, only ideas no one had tried yet.

SKATEISTAN BUILDS AFGHANISTAN'S FIRST SKATE SCHOOL IN 2007

In 2007 Australian skater Oliver Percovich moved to Kabul with three boards and an idea.

He started teaching kids in an empty fountain. Girls who were banned from riding bikes could step on a skateboard without the same cultural restrictions.

By 2009 that idea became Skateistan, Afghanistan's first indoor skate park and school. The program mixed skate sessions with literacy classes, art, and leadership training. More than 40 percent of students were girls, many from street working families.

The school later won an Oscar for the documentary Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone If You're a Girl, and expanded to Cambodia, South Africa, and Jordan.

It proved that a four wheeled plank could open classrooms where doors were closed.
