What is your favorite non-Japanese food?

When I was on a vacation to Japan last year, I noticed that Italian and Thai restaurants were quite common. So it seems like those were pretty popular options.

What non-Japanese foods do Japanese people generally enjoy? Or just one that you personally enjoy.

Is this a good option for what I want a pc for?

Hey all. I’m looking for a new pc right now and had some questions about a few I’m interested in. I’ve got a particular model I’m curious about.

I’m interested in many games that my steam deck struggles with, most notably Helldivers 2, VRchat, and any games that have tons of mods installed. When I play the PCVR games I’m interested in, I’m likely going to do so with either the Steam link, meta link, or virtual desktop connected to my quest 2 headset.

I’m also interested in blender and unity, both of which my current laptop cannot handle. It can open the programs just fine. But crashes when I try to render anything or have too many items set up in a scene.

Anyways, The pc I’m asking about is one that a friend recommended to me. The Asus G13chr-dsi74060. This one looks pretty good on the RAM and storage front, but I’m not sure if its GPU would be up to par with everything I want. The Google AI overview says it should be, but I’m not trusting anything the AI says. My friend who has this model is able to play intense game like monster hunter wilds and Helldivers 2 at max settings with no performance issues.

I’m pretty certain that this one will handle blender, Unity, and a lot of games pretty well. But I’m not sure if it’ll be great for VR. My friend is able to play VR chat on desktop mode with his just fine, but I’m not sure how that model handles playing it in actual VR.

I found this one on several sites like eBay for decent price prices. (he did confirm that the one in the pictures is the same one he has)

If anyone has any experience with this model or its CPU with any of the things I mentioned and can tell me if this is a good option that would be awesome. Thank you.

EDIT: i’d also like to know if I’m able to upgrade individual parts of this model and whether or not it’s a good idea to buy it on places like eBay.

Complete shot in the dark here, but I was wondering if there’s any known images/footage of the holiday overlay being set up or taken down.

I’m talking any recorded footage of props being taken down or set up, scenery that’s only partially set up, workers swapping props out. Anything of that sort. I don’t imagine there’s very much of this considering security reasons, but I’m kind of curious to see what everything looks like in the middle of swapping the overlay in or out.

If you could make any change to any version of the haunted mansion, what would it be?

Let’s assume for a moment that you have no budget constraints of any kind. You’re allowed to do literally anything you want.

I think what I would do in such a situation is rearrange the loading area at Disneylands mansion to make room for some of the scenes WDW has that we don’t. The library, the piano room, and the endless staircases. Maybe even squeeze in the original version of the hallway where the portraits would watch you if possible.

How well do these canon comics fit with the legends continuity?

I asked a similar question in the starwarsbooks sub about novels, so I’m gonna ask the same thing here about some comics. Because I’m interested in putting together a headcanon, trying to see how much new Canon stuff can fit into the legends continuity.

Hyperspace stories, this one looks like it’s meant to be in universe stories? So maybe some of its possible contradictions can be shocked up to unreliable narrators?

Mace Windu

Jedi knights

Darth Maul (2017)

Obi-Wan and Anakin

Jedi of the Republic: Mace Windu

Jango Fett, i’m assuming this one might contradicts the open seasons comic?

Darth Vader: dark Lord of the Sith, this one might not line up with the rise of Darth Vader novel?

Jedi fallen order: dark temple, and by extension the game

Star Wars (2015). If I recall correctly, the original Marvel comics take place within the same timeframe as these, but I don’t really care about contradicting those since they were already dubiously Canon at best

Darth Vader (2015)

War of the bounty hunters, specifically does it clash with shadows of the empire

How well should these canon books fit into the Legends continuity?

I’m interested in running a headcanon/fan continuation of legends. I’m wondering how well the following books from the current canon fit into the legends continuity.

Dooku: Jedi lost. I’ve heard some people say Dooku‘s character is not quite like his legend’s counterpart here.

Padawan

Master and apprentice, specifically wondering if it clashes with the Jedi apprentice series

The living force

Queens Trilogy, I’ve heard this one has some issues with the Darth Plagueis novel

Mace Windu: the glass abyss, i’m specifically wondering if this one clashes with shatterpoint

Inquisitor: rise of the red blade, i’m not confident this one would fit because of how different inquisitors were in legends

Brotherhood, this one directly references the clone wars multimedia project. So I’m confident it shouldn’t have any issues.

Outlaws: low red moon, i’m also wondering if the game has any continuity problems with legends too

Reign of the empire trilogy, I don’t think the last book is out yet. So even if it doesn’t contradict legends in the first two books, the third one still might

Canon Thrawn trilogy, i’m specifically concerned with how necessary the rebels tie ins are

Lords of the Sith

Tarkin

Leia: princess of Alderaan

From a certain point of view trilogy

Doctor Aphra audio drama

Bought this shampoo the other day without looking at it. Just noticed today that the design has weird wobbly linework and that odd gap on the left side.

The only thing that makes me think it’s possibly not AI is the fact that each individual detail is consistent with themselves. Like the little triangle bits going along the knotwork on the edge are all the same. But they’re also pretty weird looking so it might be a bunch of AI assets copy and pasted around to make the full image? Other than that, this really does look like AI to me.

Error with ported Gmod model

So I’ve tried to port a gmod model to SFM to use in an animation. But it doesn’t seem to be working. I was able to download the model, extract its files, and put them in usernod. When I open SFM and try to look for the model in “Create animation set for new model” I can see that the model is in the folder, but it doesn’t load. It’s just an error. I tried loading it into the session and it was still just the error.

Here’s the process I followed to download and port the model:

1: I used the steam workshop downloader website to download this model from the Garry’s mod workshop.

2: I extracted the .gma file with Gmad extractor.

3: I moved the extra extracted file folders into the usermod folder.

If anyone has any experience with this and can help me out, that would be awesome.

I made this like a week ago and forgot about it.

Made this late at night sometime last week, thought it was kinda funny, passed out from tiredness, and forgot about it until I found it in my phones just now.

Based off a conversation I had while trying to convince a friend to watch this show.

Would I enjoy Star Trek based on what I already enjoy about sci-fi/fantasy?

I have never seen Star Trek and I’m unsure of whether or not I would like it. I’m not sure where I would start with the series or even what it’s about. A lot of people just kind of assume that because I’m already a nerd for sci-fi and fantasy that I enjoy Star Trek, but I haven’t really seen anything about it yet. That makes me want to invest my time into it.

All I know is that the spaceship “the enterprise”exists, Spock exists, I’ve heard the word “borg” but don’t know what it is, “redshirts” is apparently some fan inside joke, that one hand gesture, and the planet Vulcan. That’s the extent of my knowledge right there.

Some sci-fi/fantasy franchises I am very big into are Star Wars and Doctor Who. And I’ve seen some level of fan base overlap between those two and Star Trek.

I absolutely adore Star Wars for its unique style of being what’s essentially an old fashioned fairy tale/mythology but set in space. It’s got lasers and spaceships and all the audiovisual elements of a sci-fi setting, but the core of its storytelling and themes are very much More akin to folklore and fantasy. Which is what I primarily love about the series. From what I can tell, Star Trek seems to be much more of a hard Science Fiction. With much more emphasis on its hypothetical science and more grounded world building. And there is a bit of a joking rivalry between Star Wars fanboys and “Trekkies”. I’m not sure if Star Trek necessarily has enough of those fantastical elements I love like in Star Wars that would engage me, but I would like to be pleasantly surprised.

I also much prefer when Star Wars is grand and gets deeper with its themes and characters as opposed to strict continuity, hence why much prefer the old “legends” expanded universe to the modern continuity. I know Star Trek also has an extensive collection of novels and comics, but I’ve heard it’s a separate timeline of some kind?

The most recent Star Wars project I loved was “Andor”. It strayed away from the mythical tone of the rest of the franchise, but did so in a way that I found to be executed quite well. I love it it’s gritty take on fascism and how freedom is stripped away. It’s not something I would like the franchise to stick with, but it is a unique perspective that I think breathe some new life into it for a bit. I’ve heard that Star Trek often has political sub themes. Does it ever get as real and complex as Andor did?

Doctor Who might be my all-time favorite TV show. If I said my problem with getting into Star Trek was purely about how long it’s been running and trying to figure out a jump jumping on point I might be a little bit hypocritical, since Doctor Who is also notoriously long running with people often getting confused about where to start with it. Even so the number of different series and movies is a bit daunting as I’ve heard conflicting suggestions of where to start.

The show definitely has less supernatural elements unlike Star Wars, but its attempt at scientific explanations for elements of its world building are still fantastical enough to make it feel mystical to some extent. It’s also very diverse story formats and genres, notably with the classic series being a serial format and the 2005 soft reboot following more overarching narratives. Episodes can range from somewhat comedic, to intriguing and relevant political commentary, to Gothic horror. And the show has for the most part maintained being pretty progressive since its inception, Which I very much appreciate. I’ve also heard quite a few people praise Star Trek for its progressiveness. With many people calling the world building basically a good model of what Democratic socialism would look like. I’m not sure if that statement is coming from a genuine understanding of Star Trek’s world building, or if it’s from specific viewers biases.

One of my favorites video games of recent years is Helldivers 2, a team based combat game where players embark on short military operations in a war between the fascist “super earth”, an alien race called the illuminate, a species of hive mind bugs, and a robot empire. I love the games world building and how it pokes fun at the sheer absurdity of fascist imperialism, with many of it seeming to be very much inspired off of how silly the sense of patriotism in the United States can get. Political satire being as silly as Helldivers isn’t a necessity for me to enjoy something by any stretch, but it’s definitely something I appreciate. I’m not sure if Star Trek ever really gets comedic like that.

I’m also unsure if I’m the right age demographic for Star Trek. It always felt like something geared towards Gen X/boomer aged people or people who were around when it started airing. And I’m not saying it feels like a “boomer show” as an insult for the record. Again, I’m a Doctor Who fan, so that would make me a hypocrite for calling an old show old (But to play devils advocate even classic doctor who has a surprising number of young fans.).

I’m just saying that in my experience most Star Trek fans seem to be men older than me by at least a few decades. I’m a younger guy, currently in my early 20s. So I’m not really sure I would “fit in” if I got involved in that fandom.

The other bit kind of related to the age demographic thing is that Star Trek feels like it’s kind of losing its cultural relevancy. I don’t meet very many young people who are into it like Star Wars and Doctor Who for example. Even a lot of my friends my age are interested in the new masters of the universe movie, which is a surprise. If I’m right about my assumption that the series is kind of “on its way out”, then is it really worth getting into now?

Some final questions to finish this off:

What is the fandom generally like? One of my main gripes with Star Wars is how terrible its fan base. Consistently toxic, blinded by nostalgia, and often seems to struggle with basic media literacy.

Would I have to watch all of it to get a full picture of the story? Is there any specific Star Trek series that is generally recommended to avoid?

TL;DR people tell me all the time that I might enjoy Star Trek, but from what I can tell, I’m not sure if it would interest me based on what I already enjoy about sci-fi and fantasy. But I would like to be pleasantly surprised and enjoy it.

Is the Xenia declaration still a thing?

I have been wanting to get a bit more active in the community recently, and I figured a good place to look for people and groups to connect with would be the Xenia declaration. Figured I would start there because I’d like to know that I would be involving myself with people who made their stance on bigotry clear.

But I noticed a lot of the site seems a bit dead? The linked Twitter account has been suspended, many of the links to groups who signed the declaration either lead to error pages or redirect to new unrelated URLs. Like something either happened to the link on the declaration website itself or those organizations are now defunct.

And it looks like the last update to the website was February 2024. Was that simply the last time someone signed it or was there an issue?

Do you think these 4 rebuilding the Jedi order be successful?

Jeidee Vahnts is one of my favorite legends characters and I’d love to see him come back.

Carls wisdom might actually set Luke on a cool and badass path that would be a gazillion times better than his flushed out arc in TLJ.

Force sensitive Klaud has some real potential. He’d be great alongside Finn.

16th Doctor? Rose? Whatever she’s supposed to be was underutilized and could’ve been a great enemies to lovers character on the level of Mara Jade.

Made this in light of recent events.

This popped into my head while on a call with some friends earlier. We kept giggling as we added more stuff to it.

I’m open to suggestions on what to add

Some new hauls I picked up recently

Picked up Jedi academy trilogy boxset, I Jedi, X-Wing: Rogue squadron, and The fallen star on amazon. The last picture is all from a collector/second hand merch trading store.

Read Jedi academy when I was a kid so I’m interested to see how they hold up. Never read I, Jedi but I’ve heard it’s basically a retelling of Jedi Academy with Corran Horn retconned in?

Reading rogue squadron for the first time right now and loving it.

I’ve really enjoyed the first few high republic books and the comics to I’m excited to continue on with fallen star.

The Denis Villanueve Dune movies quickly became some of my favorite movies of the last few years so I’m really interested to dig into the book that film’s based off of and see what inspired George Lucas for the original Star Wars.

The Medstar duology will be my first dive into the clone wars multi media project outside the Gendy Tartakovsky series. Which is great btw.

I know nothing at all about the new rebellion. I bought it specifically to dive into something unknown.

We should only ever talk about how much we hate the “Rey movies” and nothing else.

Also we gotta always praise the peak Shakespearean and political masterpiece Lucas prequels.

Wait what? Good writing? Convincing effects? Philosophy? Interesting themes? Character arcs? Nah bro, more hype moments and aura will save the franchise!
(Even though it’s doing fine financially)

[TOMT][song] song I remember hearing on the radio between around 2013-2016, I only remember vague and likely misheard lyrics.

Hello everyone. Today a song I vaguely remember hearing close to a decade ago popped into my head and it’s driving me nuts.

I’m almost certain I misheard or am misremembering these lyrics, but what I do remember is this

  1. The main chorus featured what I think are the lyrics “I feel myself”. When I was a kid I thought the lyrics were “k**l myself”, but I I’m pretty sure that’s not the case cause that wouldn’t have aired on the radio. A friend at school also misheard the lyrics to this song as “k**l myself” so maybe people mishearing this song like that was pretty common? Or maybe those were the actual lyrics and that somehow got on the air.

  2. There was a bit after “I feel myself” would repeat once or twice that I remember having a sort of radio static filter over it.

  3. The song was kind of upbeat and a little synthy. I don’t remember what the exact genre was but it sounded like some sort of pop or maybe hip-hop. I think it might’ve had a rap verse, but I’m not too sure.

If it helps at all. I remember this song used to play on 97.1 AMP Radio in the Los Angeles area during the early to mid 2010s. That station typically plays top 40 pop music of the current year, but I distinctly remember that they would sometimes also play older songs like “Hypnotize” by Notorious B.I.G. So it’s possible the song I’m remembering could be older than 2013-16.

No one in my family seems to remember this song when I describe it to them. Even though I remember some of them also being in the car when this song would play.

This one’s been driving me nuts all day, cause I can’t remember it and my searching hasn’t gone anywhere. So if anyone could help me track down what song this was that would be awesome.

Also here’s a recording of me trying to describe how the song went.
