Why does Bunnings smell completely like sweet fertiliser and damp potting mix the second it rains?

The indoor nursery section turns into an absolute greenhouse of dense humidity the moment a proper winter downpour hits the roof. Walking through the plastic flaps straight into a massive wall of damp soil smell and wet concrete is a serious shock to the system when you are just trying to find a cheap bag of native bird seed. It takes ten minutes of standing near the trade desk just to clear the scent from your nose

Has anyone actually bought a flatpack desk and had it survive?

Looking at the basic flatpack options for a study setup, but the display model in store was already wobbling significantly just from someone leaning on it. Wondering if it is worth the stress of assembly

Why does Kmart refuse to let us leave reviews on the website?

It would save everyone so much time if we could see which cheap appliances actually work and which ones die after two uses

You do not have to sign the voluntary privacy consent forms, no matter what they tell you

Just a heads-up for anyone new to the system: providers will hand you a stack of paperwork at your first meeting and imply your payments will be cut if you do not sign everything. The form that allows them to contact employers on your behalf is completely voluntary. If you refuse to sign it, they cannot legally penalise you under the targeted compliance framework

What’s the biggest mortgage myth Australians still believe in 2026?

What mortgage belief do you still hear constantly that’s either outdated, exaggerated?

What tech stack is giving you the most traction for interviews right now?

Trying to update my portfolio projects to match what hiring managers are actually looking for. Is a deep focus on typescripts with modern framework still the safest bet, or is there a massive shift toward data heavy python and cloud infrastructure skills?

Does the be a good human interview style work for entry level roles?

My provider is obsessed with this new interview coaching where they tell you to talk about your volunteer work and empathy. I applied for an admin job and the boss just wanted to know if I had a license and a white card. Does this corporate vibe stuff actually work or is it just more fluff from the department?

How many jobs are you guys actually applying for to hit your points?

I feel like I am running out of actual legitimate roles in my area and just applying for random stuff now. It feels so pointless just sending off resumes for things I know I won't get just to keep the dashboard green. Is everyone else just spamming applications at this stage or are you finding other ways to get the points up?

How much does HECS debt realistically affect borrowing power for average income earners now?

For average full time earners, how much difference does it actually make in practice when applying for a mortgage?

Do people massively overestimate what incognito mode actually does?

I still end up explaining to friends and family that incognito mode mostly just stops local browsing history being saved on your device. Your ISP, workplace, school, network admin, and the websites themselves can still potentially see plenty of what you’re doing.

Feels like a lot of people treat it like some kind of invisibility cloak when it’s really more of a “don’t save this on my laptop” mode. We probably need way better public understanding around what these tools actually do and don’t protect against

I finished my Cert III/IV a few months ago. Every time I go in, they ask what I’m studying. I show them the digital certificate. They say, "Oh, wow, that’s great!" then ten minutes later, they ask if I’ve considered a cleaning job at the airport. It is like talking to a brick wall that has a KPI to meet.

Genuine question because so far it’s mostly just been appointments and admin for me. Has anyone actually had their provider do something properly useful that helped them get or keep a job? Like real support, not just ticking boxes

Finished at TAFE thinking I’d be ready to step into something, but every so called entry level ad still wants experience. Feels like you can’t even get a foot in the door without already having done the job. How are people actually landing that first role? Are you ringing around or just firing off applications and hoping something sticks?

We spend a lot of time venting, but let us share some positivity. Did you finally get a backpay? Did you find a consultant who actually cares? Did your claim get approved in record time? What is one good thing that has happened in your dealings with the department lately?

I am seeing more RAMs and Silverados than ever on the school run. They barely fit in a standard Aussie parking spot and they are a nightmare in narrow city streets. Surely there are not that many people towing a three ton boat every weekend. Is it just a lifestyle statement at this point or is there a genuine use case I am missing?

I did a one day casual shift and earned 300 dollars. Because the free area is still stuck at 150 dollars they took 50 cents in the dollar for the first bit and then 60 cents for the rest. I essentially worked half the day for free once you factor in travel. Why has this threshold not been indexed properly in years?

My current consultant is incredibly condescending and keeps forgetting to approve my travel reimbursements. I’ve already transferred once this year. Is there a limit before Centrelink starts asking questions?

I’m looking at doing a vendor cert like the CCNA or CompTIA A+ to supplement my TAFE qualification but I’m struggling to figure out if it’s actually worth the extra coin. I know TAFE covers a lot of the same theory, so I’m worried it’s just paying for a different badge on my resume for the sake of it. Do Australian employers actually value these certs once you already have the Diploma, or is the TAFE qualification enough to get through the initial screening?
