Client wants us to colour match a sea can to a pre existing barn colour. What kind of paint would you recommend ? Canada
Why did my varathane do this to pine stained doors ?
First photo is door that turned out properly , second and third are said problem doors. Been using this specific stuff for a lot of my interior projects (trim , doors etc all made of pine or spruce with the exact same stain !! ) but never have seen this happen before. Can it be fixed ?
Restaining my parents deck - what kind of sander would you recommend ? Want to stain or oil with something that will bring out the natural colour of the wood and require little maintenance going forward.
What kind of tools and methods would I need to use to recreate this table base and legs ?
Would like to commission someone to recreate this piece - or alternatively does anyone have recommendations of artists / individuals with works for sale in a similar style ?
Cheaper alternative dupes for this Nordic knots rug ?
Recommendations to finish live edge similar to this one ? Not a fan of the plasticy / wet / shiny look with epoxy. When I run my hands over the piece , I can still feel all of the knots and textures which I love and want to preserve that in the finish. Non toxic / food safe

Live edge slab help
I’ve got a 16’ long piece of live edge at roughly 30” wide throughout. Stored indoors for a few months and now the edges have curled up so that the piece rocks on the wood supports it’s been sitting on.
I was going to take the wood supports out and lay it flat on the ground with weights on top in an attempt to make it flat again - but I’m wondering if this is just a lost cause and we should just go right to the planer ?
It’s 2.5” thick so I think we can afford to lose some height if we went the planer route .. I’ve never ever done a piece like this before so any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.
Going to be used as kitchen countertops (hopefully if all turns out well).
Career advice
I’ve wanted to start an apprenticeship for some time now since renovating my first home. I’ve also spent some time building a she shack (still unfinished lol) and furniture like some simple tables and chairs.
Most of my guidance comes from you tube or my father - I currently work in a completely different field and this has all been hobby work so far .. but ready to make the jump now.
The only problem is , I can’t get hired on to start as an apprentice or labourer anywhere. Not sure if it’s because I’m a woman - as my uncle who is also a carpenter and has said he wouldn’t hire me for strength reasons (they do a lot of framing mostly).
Has anyone ever done all of the schooling at once for learnings sake , and immediately gone on their own into sole proprietorship ? I’m of the opinion that learning hands on is the best way , just struggling to find that with the employers where I live.
I want to back out of doing this beast of a railing.
Bit of a miscommunication between client and myself - I was unaware the railing was to be included in the job. As a good gesture , I offered to essentially do it for free , no labour charge if they would cover the cost of paint.
HOWEVER .. I’ve only ever done a select few very small railings by hand. Obviously this would need to be sprayed or I’d be here for a million billion years.
I honestly don’t feel confident enough to tackle this - I usually just do walls and doors , never sprayed a railing before and I feel like this one would be a bad place to start.
I feel bad going back to the client and making up some excuse to not do it , but I’d feel even worse if it turned out like shit. Thoughts ?
Are there any schools similar to the American college of the building arts in Charleston SC in other parts of the world ?
Fascinated with the integration of building trades with design and the arts. However , I don’t really have any desire to live in SC. I understand it seems to be the only of its kind in America - I’ll probably go down the rabbit hole today in my searches to see if there are other countries that offer something similar , but also wanted to ask here in case anyone might have done something similar !
After wedging and throwing on wheel .. after adding a TINY bit of water clay turns slimy and wobbles / becomes super unstable before just falling apart like mud. Why is this happening ? Plainsman clay
How much would you charge for a deck/ stain job like this ? Gonna be a ton of work with the 2 levels .. all beams and underside to be done too. I wanted to ask what the clients budget is before I give a price for this one. Would it seem unprofessional ?
Should we buy minimum protection through Turo for a booking or just rely on our regular insurance companies international rental coverage ?
reddit.comDo you charge extra when a contractor asks you to come back to touch up wall damages in a new build ?
I don’t usually do touch ups on the wall without having to repaint the entire thing , so I was thinking about charging per wall.
