Life fitness stationary bike worth it?

Hey everyone, I’m looking to buy an upright stationary bike for my home gym and wanted a gut check before I buy one.

I’ve used Pelotons before and realized I’m just not a fan of the spin bike position. At the gym I always end up using the upright bikes, usually what I think are Life Fitness models. I like that they still give me a good workout while letting me check my phone, answer an email, or watch a show.

My first instinct was to buy a Life Fitness bike, but I was surprised by how expensive the home models are. Now I’m wondering if that’s still the right move or if there are better options.

For anyone who’s been down this road, is Life Fitness worth the premium? Any other brands I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance.

Fisher & Paykel Series 9 double oven for $5k vs Frigidaire Professional for ~$3200

Replacing an older 30” Thermador double wall oven and have an unusually short cabinet opening. I’ve narrowed it down to the Fisher & Paykel Series 9 Professional OB30DPPTX1 for $4,999 or the Frigidaire Professional PCWD3085AF for around $3,100.

The F&P fits perfectly with no cabinet modification and seems significantly more premium in build/finish. The Frigidaire requires only about 1/8” additional height, which my contractor says is easy, and actually has more capacity and features.

I prefer the look/feel of the F&P and $4,999 seems like a great deal, but is it actually a meaningfully better oven in terms of cooking, build quality and reliability/service? Or am I basically paying ~$2k more for nicer fit and finish?

Anyone own or service either? Which would you buy at these prices?

Floor installer replaced carpet with hardwood without mentioning the height difference. Would you be upset?

Looking for objective opinions from flooring professionals and experienced homeowners.

We hired a flooring contractor for a large flooring project. Part of the project involved replacing carpet in an upstairs hallway with engineered hardwood.

The hardwood installation itself looks great. My concern isn’t the quality of the floor.

The issue is that the existing carpet and pad were much thicker than the new floor. After installation, we discovered this left significant gaps beneath the existing baseboards and, in some areas, door gaps of roughly 1 to 1.5 inches.

After researching it, it sounds like there may have been multiple ways to handle this (such as building up the subfloor for an additional cost or planning for new/lowered baseboards), but none of those options were ever discussed with us before the flooring was installed.

We’re now looking at several thousand dollars of additional finish carpentry and may need to modify or replace some interior doors because of the larger gaps.

My questions are:

-Should an experienced flooring installer have recognized this situation and discussed the options before proceeding?
-Is building up the subfloor a common solution, or is adjusting the baseboards typically the better approach?
-If you were the homeowner, would you ask the flooring contractor to contribute toward the cost of the additional trim work and any necessary door modifications or replacements?

Thank you!

Best 98 inch tv to buy for basement

A few weeks ago I posted asking if it was even worth upgrading from my 85” to a ~98”, and this sub pretty much talked me into it. Now I’m stuck on which one to buy.

It’s going in my finished basement. Not a dedicated theater, just an open section of the basement with no windows.

Viewing distance is about 8.5-9 feet. It’ll mostly be used for football, basketball, movies, and streaming.

Right now I’m looking at the TCL QM9K, TCL QM8K/QM8L, Sony BRAVIA 5, and the Hisense 100U8QG.

If you were buying today, which would you go with? Curious what people who actually own these TVs think, especially if you were deciding between a couple of them. Thank you!!

Genesis S-315 vs S-335: Is the sear burner and side burner worth an extra $300?

I’m about to buy my first Weber Genesis and I’m stuck between the stainless steel Genesis S-315 and S-335 (propane).

The S-335 is about $300 more where I’m shopping.

I mostly grill pretty simple stuff. Steaks, Burgers, Chicken, Vegetables.

For those who own one:

-Do you actually use the sear zone regularly?
-How useful is the side burner in real life?
-If you bought the S-335, do you feel it was worth the extra money?
-If you bought the S-315, do you ever wish you’d spent more?

Thanks!!

Am I missing something, or is renting a Tonal a complete no-brainer over buying?

I’m deciding between buying and renting a Tonal 2.

I called Tonal, and the rep told me that if I rent first and later decide to buy, they’ll credit my rental payments toward the purchase price (I’m going to get that in writing).

If that’s true, renting seems like the obvious choice. I can see whether I actually use it consistently before committing, and if I love it, I just buy it later.

For anyone who’s gone through this, am I missing a catch?

Does the purchase price change, are there any downsides to converting from a rental, or is renting really the better option?

Gut check on this UniFi proposal

I’m planning a UniFi setup for a large home (4500 sq ft + 1000 sq ft basement) and received the following proposal from an installer.

Equipment
Dream Machine SE
2× U7 Pro ceiling APs
2× U7 In-Wall APs
1× G6 Bullet
1× G6 180 + Enhancer
2× G4 Doorbell Pros
8TB HDD
6U wall rack
Cat6 cabling

Total: ~$7,800 all in

A few questions:

-Does this hardware selection make sense overall?
-Is four APs a reasonable starting point for a large home, or would you expect more or fewer?
-Is the Dream Machine SE still the right choice today, or would you recommend something else?
-Does the pricing seem reasonable for both the hardware and labor?

If this were your house, what would you change? Thank you

85” vs 98” TV at ~8.5–9 ft viewing distance. Am I crazy for considering the 98”?

Looking for a sanity check from people who’ve actually lived with both sizes.

I’m finishing a dedicated basement media room. The wall the TV is going on is very large, so wall space isn’t the limiting factor. The real constraint is the viewing distance.

The couch will be about 9 feet from the TV (eye to screen).
I already own an 85” TV, so I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth upgrading to a 98” or if that would be too much from this distance.

A few questions:

-Would a 98” feel too large at 9-9.5 feet?
-If you’ve gone from an 85” to a 98”, was the upgrade worth it?
-Did anyone think a 98” would be too big but end up loving it, or regret making the jump?

I’m less interested in theoretical viewing-angle charts and more interested in real-world experiences from people who have lived with either size.

Anyone choose Quicksilver over Black and have second thoughts?

Just ordered a 2026 Model Y Juniper AWD and I’m really excited. I originally planned on getting black, but after seeing Quicksilver in person I changed my order.

Now I’m second guessing myself.. lol

Our family usually gravitates toward black, white, and pretty understated colors. Quicksilver feels a little more unique and a little bolder than what we’d normally choose.

At the same time, every time I see it, I think it looks fantastic.

If I change my order, it’ll almost certainly be back to black.
I’m especially curious to hear from people who:

- Ordered Quicksilver and had second thoughts before delivery. Are you glad you kept it?

-Switched from black to Quicksilver (or vice versa). Any regrets?

-Tend to prefer more understated colors but still went with Quicksilver.

Thank you!!

New homeowner looking for advice: UniFi cameras only, or should I use UniFi for Wi-Fi too?

Hi everyone. I’m a first-time homeowner and pretty new to Ubiquiti, so apologies in advance if I’m missing something obvious.

I originally started looking into UniFi because I’m planning to install security cameras (and likely a UniFi doorbell) at our new home. The more I’ve been reading, though, the more I’m realizing that many people seem to use UniFi for their entire home network, not just security.

The house is about 4,000 sq ft plus another 1,000+ sq ft of finished basement and already has Verizon FiOS. My biggest priority is having the best possible Wi-Fi throughout the house. We also have a lot of connected devices (Sonos, TVs, laptops, phones, smart home devices, cameras, etc.). The last home owner told me WiFi isn’t perfect and does go in and out at times. There are a lot of trees / woods nearby which doesn’t help.

If you were starting from scratch, would you:

-Use Verizon for internet but build the home’s Wi-Fi around UniFi (gateway + access points)?
-Use UniFi only for the cameras and stick with Verizon’s equipment or another Wi-Fi system?
-Recommend something else entirely?

Also, is this typically something one low-voltage/AV installer would handle together (networking + cameras) or are those usually separate projects?

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially if there are things a first-time homeowner might not even know to ask. Thanks! Sorry for being an idiot ! lol

2026 Q7: Is Premium Plus or Prestige actually worth it over Premium?

I’m leaning toward leasing a 2026 Audi Q7 since there seem to be some attractive lease deals with the redesigned model on the way.

I’m currently being quoted roughly $700/month for a Premium trim (36 months, 12k miles), which seems pretty compelling but maybe I can negotiate it. My assumption was that I’d probably want a Premium Plus or maybe even a Prestige, but I’m curious whether those upgrades are worth it.

For those of you who have owned or driven different Q7 trims, would you stick with the Premium, or do you think Premium Plus or Prestige is worth the extra cost? Which features ended up mattering the most to you, and were there any you thought you’d care about but didn’t?
I’m trying to decide which trim to target as I negotiate, so I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

Q5 vs. Q7 for a family with two young kids?

I was pretty set on getting an Audi Q5 (either leasing a new one or buying a lightly used one), but now I’m wondering if I should step up to a Q7 instead.

We currently have one child with another on the way, so we’ll soon have two car seats. This would be our second family car.

The dealer is offering an attractive deal on the current 2026 Q7 since the redesigned model is coming out soon. The lease would only be about $50/month more than the Q5 (if we leased. We may buy it if we did would likely be an older car with <40k miles)

For those who’ve owned either, is the Q7 worth it for a family of four? Is the extra space something you appreciate all the time, or is the Q5 plenty? Which would you choose and why? Thank you!!

Sub-Zero vs Scotsman vs True: Best built-in panel-ready ice maker for a kitchen island?

We’re renovating our kitchen, and I’m a big ice person. I originally planned to put a built-in ice maker by the pantry, but due to some plumbing/cabinet constraints, it looks like the best spot is now in the kitchen island.

I’m currently deciding between the **Sub-Zero DEU1550IP**, **Scotsman SRC065**, and **True Residential TUI-15**.

For anyone who owns or has experience with these, which would you choose and why? Also, since it’ll be in the island, should I be worried about the noise, or is it something you rarely notice in day-to-day use?

Appreciate any feedback before I pull the trigger. Thanks!!
