Odd cardboard stashing behaviour

We have a regular cycle of crows that visit us as we put out permanent water for them. As it's winter here, we've mowed the grass and let it lie as mulch. We have also laid some cardboard down to suppress weeds.

One of our frequent crow visitors has started tearing small pieces of cardboard and then stashing it under the dead, mown grass. When I took this video, it was the 4th time in a row it had done this. My child and I saw them doing the same thing again today.

There's no food on the cardboard and it's literally been there for months before the crow started playing with it....

Any thoughts about the possible reasons why our bros are doing this?

French modelling scout with links to Epstein found dead, prosecutors say

"A French modelling scout with close ties to the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead at his home outside Paris, prosecutors say.

Under investigation in France, Daniel Siad, 69, was one of several French men accused of aiding Epstein traffic and abuse women.

Mr Siad had not yet been questioned by investigators, but had denied the allegations, saying he wanted to be heard and give his version of events.

"An investigation to determine the cause of death was opened on Monday evening following the discovery," the prosecutor's office in the Paris suburb of Nanterre said.

An autopsy will be carried out as part of the probe."

Convicted paedophile to argue multiple-personality evidence unlawful

A Newcastle father jailed for abusing two of his children has been granted leave to appeal against his conviction, arguing his daughter's multiple personalities should not have been sworn in to give evidence as they were not recognised by law.

In December 2024, a Newcastle District Court jury found the man, who can only be legally referred to as SN, guilty of the child sexual abuse of siblings known to the court as LN and AB.

SN was last year sentenced to 21 years' jail for abusing the children in several locations in and around Newcastle over a seven-year period ending in 2016.

During a five-week trial, LN, who has been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID), was sworn in as three separate identities known as alters.

The case was the first of its kind in Australia.

There was a similar situation in 2019 where another woman had permission to give evidence against her father as different personalities, but no alters were sworn in after her father pleaded guilty mid-trial.

That woman delivered victim impact statements as different alters, a different process to giving evidence

16 year old boy charged with murder of missing 13 year old girl who was a "very sweet and fairly shy girl".

In short:

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Victorian teenager Layla Jeffery.

The small west Victorian town of Donald has rallied around Layla's family, after police say she was found dead in bushland this week.

The 13-year-old was last seen in Donald on July 4, and was reported missing the next day, prompting a large-scale search of the surrounding area.

On Thursday, a wide-ranging search of bushland recovered human remains believed to be that of the missing girl.

A teenage boy was arrested by detectives on Friday and will face a children's court later today charged with one count of murder.

Breaking; Rep. Tom Kean Jr wasn't depressed, he was undergoing conversion therapy

An individual close to Rep. Tom Kean Jr has stated he was witnessed travelling to Austin, Texas and then attending conversion therapy there. This trip occured after Rep. Kean realised his feelings for President Donald Trump and Health Secretary RFK Jr.

The individual did not want their identity disclosed at this time, noting they feared for their safety after receiving death threats from unknown sources.

Rep. Kean's phone data, obtained by News.com via a FoiA request, shows he was with the Living Waters: Christ Church of Austin facility for the majority of the 100 days he was absent from the House floor.

Reportedly, those working with Tom Kean have noticed a significant change in his behaviour, as he is now openly leering at female employees and reporters, commenting on their appearance.

Rep. Kean's office artworks have reportedly been replaced with lewd Playboy posters, some vintage, at taxpayers expense.

Rep. Tom Kean's office was contacted for comment but did not respond.

Suspected cannibalism of a 4yr old in NSW, Australia

In short:

NSW Police are investigating whether cannibalism was involved in the death of a four-year-old boy on the Central Coast.

A 32-year-old woman known to the child was charged with domestic violence murder and refused bail.

What's next?

The matter is expected to return to court in September.

"It was an extremely confronting scene. It's been confirmed the child had injuries. I am not going to speculate further on what those injuries are," Superintendent Gillies said.

Update:

The 32-year-old woman was charged with domestic violence murder and refused bail.

According to court documents, police obtained an urgent court order to forensically examine the mouth of the woman, prior to her being charged.

The court order allowed police to obtain samples of the woman's internal mouth contents and forensic material, as well as a buccal swab.

It also allowed them to obtain samples of the woman's nails and material from under her nails.

Where do I even start?

These will probably just be worn around the house. Any recommendations welcomed.

Also, recommendations welcomed for shorts that can survive chub rub for thick girls...

Post therapy sushi with my child who's slowly healing and building resilience

My child (I've mentioned them here before) has been through too much for their age, and has been in therapy in some form or another for 9 of their total 16 years to date.

They experienced SA from their paternal grandfather when they were 6, and then had another incident while they attended highschool, with a peer.

We all hold so much anger and resentment for the innocence that was lost by the actions of these people.

Despite all of this and more, they are one of my favourite people in the world (regardless of being my child), showing absolute delight so easily when seeing the good parts of the world and humanity and consistently offering seemingly boundless empathy to all living things.

After their appointment this week, their therapist emailed to say how proud they are of the progress being made, the connections between past experiences and current reactions, as well as acknowledgement of healing and acceptance of how slow the process can be sometimes.

I genuinely cried while reading this, as it makes all the times I've held space for them, woken to screams from nightmares or overwhelm, the moments where I've encouraged them to journal and use the tools they've gained, all of that has made the difference they needed to grow and move forward.

Pictured, double aburi that was part of our post therapy sushi train lunch.

I miss when my blood was blue

Since my 45th birthday, I miss seeing the vivid ultramarine blue of my blood when I accidentally cut myself while cutting pine needles for dinner.

There was that week in the middle where it was dioxazine purple, but now it's a rich red like other older people.

When I was younger, I felt closer to my blue blood ancestors who skewed the life expectancy by laying down to die once they notice the change in their blood. Now, I'm just an average red-blooded person.

Has anyone been able to keep their blood blue after they turn 45? I know Peter Thiel was funding research into blood transfusions from young people to extend it but I haven't found the outcomes of those studies.

Image Credit: taken from my ancestors journal where they proved their age by blood letting.

It was having a bad day, but this helped

I just found out I need to find a new doctor, as my current one is moving internationally. I have an extremely complicated medical history, and my children have issues related to past trauma. The thought of having to talk through all of that, yet again, with another doctor, had me inconsolable.

Luckily, I was close to my psychologist's office and I walked in, crying. The receptionist was so lovely and even though my psychologist wasn't in that day, I felt supported. I settled down, walked out of my way to catch the bus home... spotted this.

It really did help to remember someone left that hoping it would be found by a person in need. And I was.

Poppy seeds for garden near bakery

They are adding this woodchip to a nearby garden that had a healthy lot of weeds until recently. Looks like they poisoned it (months ago), then let it lie for a while.

Today, I added red poppy seeds to the areas already flattened. This is near my house, so once they have done the rest, I'll add cornflowers and some select plants to attract bees and butterflies. This is also near a bakery and a small park, so it should be nice.

Sequence box was water damaged. Found a replacement box.

I run a boardgames group; we meet twice a month and this game of mine is oddly popular. Being able to play a game up to 12 players that can include children is very helpful, as we have people attend with their families. Sequence is underrated but often popular once learnt. Thus, a new box was needed after the other was accidentally water damaged.

My hoarding nature proves itself worthy again; this Stranger Things snack bowl box turned out to be perfect! I cut the better parts of the box to recreate a functional and informative top.
