I am slowly teaching myself glass fusing and this was an idea I had been sitting on, my fishbone spoon rest!

I created this piece by layering glass in a kiln and then fusing multiple times to achieve texture and shape. I cut white pieces of glass all individually in the shapes of these bones, I cut a black and a clear in the shape of a spoon rest mold that I use. I place the black, clear powdered frit glass in an even layer, then the clear, then each piece of white in the shape of the skeleton. I full fuse this until it’s one piece. Then I fuse it again on top of my ceramic mold and slump it to its shape. (I use Oceanside glass, this mold is creative paradise, I use a HotShot 16g kiln all other questions feel feee to ask me! )

Where do you eat most of your meals when you're home?

I really only use my dining room table when I have company. I eat most of my meals at my desk in my home office.

Diamond Lotus From Scratch

The base was a piece of clear acrylic that had a laser print accident (it shifted) I figured I might be able to salvage it. So, I bought doubled sided sticky paper and individual rhinestones. I printed the image to size, color-coded it, taped it to the back, applied the sticky paper to the front, and prayed to the crafting gods.

There is no kit, no online pattern, just a lot of patience & tweezers.

Does anyone know if there is site that will recommend recipes based on your favorite foods?

Say some of my favorite foods are southern fried chicken, baked mostaccioli, sausage & peppers, pad tai, Caesar salad, and sushi. Is there any website that can break down my flavor profile and recommend new recipes?

You can eat garlic, onions, fish, and beans ANYTIME YOU WANT

Even all together (if done right). Maybe throw in a side of asparagus.

And you won't hear anyone complain about it!

Crafting with chronic pain

Some days it hurts to write my name. Some days I craft through the pain. Today I painted bacon and eggs. It's not much, but at least it makes me smile

Today (June 13th) is National "Weed Your Garden Day"

It is also "Dragonfly Day, "Gin Day", and "Blame Someone Else Day"

Please use this information wisely, and in the proper order.

Gin before weeding of course.

This was me over the weekend

I was volunteering at a farmer's market. I am a master gardener, so everything had a flower/garden theme. I made HTV garden flags, vinyl "I'm Not Dead Yet" decals, & stickers to give away. My apron was decorated with a Four Seasons emblem, my "Plant Mom" hair clip, my glitter flower barrette, my decorated garden bag, even my necklace with dried flowers set in resin; all made by me (with the help of my local library's Maker Space)

Regular and wide-mouth, threaded Mason-type jars are the recommended choice for atmospheric steam, boiling water-bath and pressure canning methods of preserving foods at home. Jars for home-based canning are available in a wide variety of sizes, including 4-ounce, ½-pint, pint, 1½-pint, quart and ½-gallon sizes. With careful use and handling, and use of a research-tested recipe and processing time, jar seals and vacuums are excellent and jar breakage is rare.

Traditional Mason-type jars sometimes are in short supply, so home-based canners may wish to consider commercial pint- and quart-size glass mayonnaise or salad dressing jars for some canning applications. Glass mayonnaise jars are acceptable for use in water-bath canning processes, such as fruit sauces, but not for pressure canning. Mayonnaise-type jars generally are made from thinner glass, so you should expect more seal failures and jar breakage when reusing them.

Be sure the jar that you choose fits the lid you are using for quality and safety. Remember that metal lids can be used only one time, but the metal rings can be used many times.

The most important step in home food preservation: Follow an up-to-date, research-tested recipe. See https://nchfp.uga.edu and the food preservation resources at https://www.ncrfsma.org/north-central-region-food-safety.

Best practices for canning with Mason-type jars.

These tips will help ensure that the items you can at home are delicious and safe:

  • Carefully inspect jars for nicks and cracks.
  • Wash jars and lids with warm, soapy water and rinse well before each use. You can use a dishwasher to wash jars and hold jars warm and ready for canning.
  • Fill clean, warm jars with prepared food or liquid.
  • Be sure to monitor head space and wipe jar rims before applying the lid to help ensure a good seal.

Sterilizing jars prior to canning is not required if the processing time recommended by a researched-based recipe is longer than 10 minutes. If the processing times are less than 10 minutes, such as for jams and jellies, sterilizing the jars will help ensure a longer shelf life.

  • To sterilize empty jars, boil for 10 minutes (at altitudes less than 1,000 feet) prior to filling. At higher elevations, boil one additional minute for each additional 1,000 feet of elevation.

Purchasing canning jars. Many national retailers, grocery stores, kitchen specialty stores, hardware stores and some online sites sell traditional Mason-type jars. High-quality jars can be reused many times.

CAUTION: In 2020-21, many customers noticed that canning supplies ordered online were of inferior quality. To ensure quality, consider ordering directly from the manufacturer or its representative, not from a third-party vendor.

Help me decide what to do!

Next week Saturday I have 2 options. They are both occur at the same time, and are an hour apart, so trying to hit both is impossible.

I can make a personalized beer caddy at my local library using their glow forge

OR

I can participate in "Pot Swap" where I trade old plant pots for new plant pots, and other garden items.

The beer caddy will be offered again, but probably not for another year and I missed it the last time due to illness.

The "Pot Swap" is an inaugural run, so it may suck, it may be awesome, it may never come back.

Which one would you pick?

Why do I never have enough mulch?

I could have double the coverage needed on hand. I could have a chip drop. I could buy every bag available at the big box stores. And yet I will still be short 2-4 bags. Not a lot, but just enough to question my sanity.
